compare LED printers from HP Company and XEROX Company

History:
The Hewlett Packard Company which is commonly known as HP is a multinational American corporation dealing with information technology with its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA. It was founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in a car garage at Palo Alto. It specializes in manufacturing computing, software designs, networking hardware, data storage and delivery services. Among the products made by the company are computing devices, enterprise servers, imaging products, storing devices as well as a wide range of printers. It has grown to be one of the world’s largest companies dealing in information technology which operates in almost every country. Xerox was formed in 1906 and was previously known as “The Haloid Photographic Company”. This is to mean that it initially produced photographic paper and equipment. The company later in 1961 changed its name to the current Xerox. Its laser printer was discovered in 1969 by Xerox researcher known as Gary Stark weather which he did through the modification of Xerox copier.
In 1970 the company was able to develop most of the current computing devices like the mouse and the graphic user interface. It was also during this period that the company developed a small minicomputer which could be similar to the current workstation or a personal computer. In 1990s the company was able to revamp its entire range of products by attaching scanners to the initially high end laser printers. Currently, it manufactures a wide range of products among them are LCD monitors, Xerox Phased printers, photo copiers and even multifunction printers. (Stone, 1996)
A LED printer is a special printer that uses a light emitting diode array as the source of light in the print head. The LED bar usually flashes across the whole page width creating the image on the print belt or drum as it passes along. HP has become a worldwide leading standard in printing and imaging solutions. The quality of having to use HP printers have been attributed to innovation, performance, brand built on customer trust. (Green, 1994)
Features
Hp toner cartridge has typically higher yields in that there is less changing as compared to ink cartridge. These feature augers well when performing volume printing. In addition to this, it offers a high quality definition of color models which are available. They have also the malfunctioning capability other than the straight line printing. This is made possible by that fact that HP Company has developed a three-in-one machine which includes a scanner, copier and a printer. HP printers have come with their compatibility to getting connected to a network other just using the USB. They also have this spec of having the highest duty cycle meaning that they have the highest number of pages that a printer can handle in a month. They also come with memory a card slot which gives the convenience of transferring whatever is to be printed at ease. (Michael Freeman,John Beardsworth, 2009)
Xerox:
The latest Xerox machine in the line of printers has come with the feature of having a solid ink printing process which means that it melts blocks of ink that are used to print the text needed or the picture to be printed. It thus gives a high quality prints. The printer can be networked using Ethernet cables, ports and parallel ports. The device has a considerable weight of about 38 lbs with very compact measurements of 15.6×13.9×18.6 inches. They are fitted with a 4 MB of flash memory .they have a print cartridge that can print of up to 6,000 pages.
Performance:
The first page from power save is out within 24 seconds in a HP printer while in a Xerox printer is within 55 seconds. With HP printers, there is a permanent output in that the dry toner becomes permanent when fused. This is different with Xerox solid ink since the ink can scratch off, melt, or even stick to the platens. HP printers have fewer parts to replace as compared to several parts that have to be replaced in a Xerox printer within the first 140,000 pages of printing. (McGrath, 2000)
Ease of use:
HP has fewer consumables and replacement parts which are two key areas through which HP technology has reduced the number of interventions that are required by any printer. HP printers have comparable fewer replacements parts than those printers from Xerox printers. HP toner cartridge capacities usually reduce interventions because there is no need for changing consumables.
HP printers come with standard cartridges which not low capacities are meaning that there is no need for replacements. This is in contrast with printers from Xerox which have low capacity toner cartridge. There is also a difference in the technology to make the average user success in that the HP laser printer normally offers an array of technological innovation which makes the user in the business very easy.
There is also a difference in the energy usage between HP and Xerox printers. Xerox does not support the energy star. In addition, HP internal testing shows that: HP’s laser imaging technology also offers great advantages over the Xerox implementation of light emitting diodes technology.
The technology of laser imaging using HP printers uses a single light source which ensures consistency in the Imaging. In the Xerox‘s implementation of LED technology in the Xerox phaser can print some horizontal streaks. This is due to the fact that it has a single diode per every pixel to be imaged using the LED technology which can lead to unequal light output decay over time leading to some noticeable banding and streaking. This means that a consumer can benefit from the HP’s laser imaging technology due to the consistent results which have fewer streaking effects as compared to those from Xerox technology.

America involvement in Iraq

America involvement in Iraq can be a matter of debate and at the end of the day solutions lack, but its involvement can be looked from two points of view. One perspective is why it get involved and secondly why it should not be involved. The following are various elaborations on the two issues.
United States involvement in Iraq can be viewed as a way of trying to stop various inhuman actions that are committed by leaders of these two countries. For example in Iraq during the reign of Saddam Hussein many people were left with permanent scars on their bodies. People from selected tribal group were killed yet were innocent and some were left with no place to call their home, many tortured to death. (Rep. Ron Paul, 2003)
Americans believed that these two countries had dangerous weapons to destroy the western country; hence they had to invade to stop them from attacking them. Also the economy of Iraq went down due to lack of viable economic policies. This affected most countries economy that relies on Iraq for oil. Afghanistan and Iraq were believed to have the highest number of terrorists who threaten country’s security. It could have sound so odd or otherwise for country who is super power to remain and watch such countries get tattered yet it has some power to stop. These are some of the reasons why united state got involved in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Bass, 2002)
There is no enough conviction why America should get involved since they may end up losing more and gaining less. The following are some of reason why it should not get involved. The U.S. military uses weapon which contain heavy metal substances which cause changes in DNA structure. The effect of these is giving birth to deformed babies and many people becoming sterile. Many innocent people were killed in the name of bringing back peace in these countries.
Iraq and Afghanistan are independent countries that are governed by their constitution so there is no need for any country to get involved in its way of ruling the country. It is not clear whether it is one of these countries who attacked it in September 11 therefore it is not in order to get involved. It has a policy that it should not attack any country without clear information it has been attacked by that country. It should not get involved in long distant country that has not attacked it.
Since united nation once in 1990 through its weapon inspectors destroyed most massive weapons of these countries, US should not get involved in the name of preventing leaders of this country to use such weapons. Most countries support UN destruction of dangerous weapons of these countries but they does not support America’s invasion. This means that they may lack connection with other countries which may affect them economically.
During its involvement in Iraq they ended up using more resources that are of great important to the local people who pay the taxes. Social amenities will become scarce to the local people; this will lead to lack of trust by its people. They should use this money in developing their country rather than being involved in unprofitable invasion.
Their involvement continues making them lose a lot of people including their own people. This means they are losing instead of benefiting from it. Bomb attacks by US military forces killed many people and some left injured for life. They used force against human being: children, men and women yet trying to evacuate the reign of tyranny leaders. (Rosen, 2010)
After achieving their goal of removing in power the tyranny leader they may incur a great cost of restoring back these countries’ peace and their economic status since they may lack support of other country which means more use of resources from their own country. Instead of getting involved in term of war they can start negotiating with leaders of these countries.
Opposition of their involvement is growing, most people from their own country are calling for America to withdraw its army from Iraq and Afghanistan and start solving their own country’s problems. This means people are not happy by this since it’s a democratic country. American leaders cannot clearly explain why they got involved in these countries and for this reason they should withdraw.

The company expects to capitalize on the areas where the competitors have overlooked as well as employ new promotion strategies in reaching to its customers.

Introduction

There have been great strides made by companies which have realized of the many opportunities available in marketing products online. This has been attributed to the current technological advancements and the improvement of the communication sector making the world become a global market. And since there are so many companies which are situated in particular places, it becomes impossible for the lovers of their products to get easy access to their products.
Fortunately, the internet has come and solved the problem by ensuring that, one can place his/her order online and have the goods delivered at their door step without any hustles in order for the company to take advantage of the open opportunity. Another striking thing happening in the universe is the increased desire by people to have the latest designs of products and more so if the products are of their own kind.
The most hit group is the youth who are craving for uniqueness when it comes to their dressing codes. For that motivating reason, the E-company has purposed to get into the market and develop shoe brands which are mostly targeted to the young men who will be able to get the design of shoe from their own making. Hence the company has purposed to provide online designing and purchasing of shoes of the customer’s choice.
The slogan of the company will be one that suggests to the customer the kind of uniqueness the company is bringing to the market. Hence, the slogan will be, “Design your own life”. This will auger so well with the customers freedom of developing shoes of their own imagination and liking. The company logo will be as show in the appendix1 which will be revealing purposes of the e-foot company. The logo will have the color blue which means activity, being creativity and showing some kind of sports. The big letter E will let people be able to access our shoes through the internet. The lines drawn by the shoe means that, it’s the design by the customer, while the black color will show the reliability of the shoe.
Overview of The Company
E-foot is an upcoming company that wants to venture in the business of selling shoes through the internet. It’s getting to an industry that’s so much dominated by established companies which have well known brand names. To be able to overcome their comparative advantage, the company will be looking forward to establishing collaboration with the Adidas Company in order for it to use its name in the brands to be made.
It will as well participate in the collaboration through the development of designs which will be the duty of the customers to come up with their own design which the company will forward to the Adidas for production. The company initial roles will be to handle online services of advertising and receiving of orders and payments.
The customers will get the opportunity to be able to come up with shoes types of their own types, size, and color and so on. There will also be some special categories type which will be going at a relatively higher price. This will be the hottest design categories which will have other added features. At the end of the day, a customer will design a shoe of their liking and then the modalities of payment online will be availed after which the order will be forwarded for production and then delivery.
Weaknesses and strengths

The major setback in the taking off of the company’s’ activities is the fact that there are competitors in the industry who are so strong and have already established their brands in the market and as a result, have a prestigious name to the customers. It will be a huge challenge to be able to get in the market and imagine the company will pose any threat to the competitors.
Another setback for the company is the fact that the company would get challenges of finding the necessary capital outlay to put up a shoe producing company at the moment. This would mean that the company would be having additional operating costs as it would be trying to repay their funders for the capital. This would be in contrast with the developed companies who operate to make profits and not repay their loans.
Another weakness would be to come up with a marketing strategy that would be successful in reaching the targeted market. Again as our company is only an under amour, its focus would be narrower as there would be no benchmark to measure or put standards to be attained. There is also the challenge of adapting to the current technology which is costly to acquire and the newness of our brand name which would be E-foot.
Despite the above weakness that the company may be deemed to have, there are also some very promising strengths that the company has and intends to capitalize on them in order to be able to sail through the trying market. The company is focused on giving priority to the uniqueness it’s bring to the industry where it will be giving the young men the opportunity to develop the own line of shoes brands. The company will aim at having strong brands which will make the company gain respect and recognition among customers. This will be enabled by the company collaborating with Adidas for manufacturing purposes.
The company will be able to enjoy the confidence that customers have on the shoes made by Adidas especially on durability. The company will also be looking forward to enjoy the large number of young people who previously had no company giving them the opportunity to develop their own design. The company will also be looking forward to see the employees working really hard in ensuring the fast growth of the company. The young men are known to have a dying longing for computer games. To be able to build on this aspect, the company will implement in its marketing strategies by having computer games which will promote the awareness of the company’s unique products.

WHY IT’S HARD TO BE FAIR

Fairness is a concept or rather a word that roots of decisions made. Whatever the decision it will be; if it affects other people, some will term it to be fair and others may think it is unfair. Another outcome may be that all of them may term the decision to be fair. Being fair does not necessarily mean that it satisfies or favors everybody but rather it’s that those affected by the decision agree with it.
For people to agree with your decisions you therefore have to involve them when making them (decisions). This means that whatever is decided after a discussion will have been agreed on by all and thus termed as fair though not all will have benefitted out of the decision made. For instance company X and Y may have a culture of rewarding its employees at the end of every year. Such rewards are obviously coveted by all employees and they would all want to be rewarded.
In company x, the human resource manager makes a decision on his own on which he thinks is the best employee who deserves to get the reward. Such a decision may be taken to be unfair by the rest of the employees if they don’t see a clear and objective reason why the employee was picked to be the best. The manager may have made his choice out of personal interest which obviously makes it hard for one to be fair. For example if the manager wants a favor from a particular employee he will pick that employee as the best.
The manager may also be biased and decide to choose a relative who maybe an employee in that organization. There is a common proverb that says that blood is heavier than water. This means that if you to help only one person but have to choose between two people you will feel obligated to choose one who is a relative or a close friend.
The result of such a decision can adversely affect an organization. It may de-motivate the rest of the employees such that none of them will try to improve productivity or performance in order to be rewarded in the coming year. This is most of them will not be able to see any prospect of them ever receiving the reward.
In company, all the stakeholders are involved in choosing the best employee. They nominate a number of employees whom they think deserve to be rewarded for their contribution to the organization. They then vote for the best employee. Such a system will motivate the rest of the employees to work harder in order to get the reward next time. Since it is hard to please everyone, it easier to make them understand by having them contributes to a decision. Democracy is what most people call out for but is one of the most elusive concepts in the current society. This is because people have different ideologies, beliefs, religions, customs and culture. Basically speaking, it becomes very difficult to make a decision which makes everyone satisfied. Though the decision may be fair and just, still some will term it as unfair and biased. It therefore becomes impossible to please all. There is also the point that, some decision may be made that though aren’t fair, can’t be made in any other way.
Life then becomes saturated with this entire situation which sometimes is termed as unfair by some and others are termed as fair. Either way, one thing remains to be undisputable in most of the life’s aspects, that, life can’t be fair to all

Song to myself.

Walter “Walt” Whitman was an American poet who was born on 31st may, 1819 and a lived a very legendary life to die in March 26 1892. He was born on the Long Island and worked as journalist, a government clerk, a teacher, also took the role of a volunteering nurse during the American civil war. These were in addition to the publishing of his poetry. As a humanist he incorporated in his works the views of both the transcendentalism and also those of the realism. He is termed as one of the most influential poets in the making of the American canon and is usually referred to as the father of the free verse. One of his major works was the leaves of the grass which was published in 1855. He was strongly and deeply influenced by deism and held the perspective that no one faith was superior to the other and that all religions were equal. His sexuality is debatable as some believe he was a homosexual and others think of him as a bisexual and this is through his poetry works (Miller).
From his famous rich collection comes the famous “song of myself”. This could be termed as one of the great distinction ever drawn between an individual and the society. The better part of this poem lies in the political message it relays, the whimsical use of the structure and how it relates with the personal life of the author. The poem song of me is a democratic one where Whitman through singing about himself, feels that he is singing about every other person. In his poem, he wants everything in the United State to be incorporated in the poem and also purposes not to use any of the established forms of writing poems but rather adopts his own free verse style. This poem is an episodic work which has much of its materials testing the boundaries of convention. The use of his language is wisely chosen which helps create pictures of the series of events desired to be relayed to the reader. Whitman is set to establish order and to be able to capitalize on the success he has.
Transcendentalism-section 1
This is the belief in self reliance which he uses when he says in his poem “I celebrate myself and sing myself.” This theme is more revealed in his poem through his illustrations of self reliance, simplicity, nature and optimism. He uses self reliance in the poem to show his advocacy of the transcendentalist idea. From tyhe first line if this section , he determines to bring in a manly man who has alot of things encompassing him. He prepares the reader for for an epic poem and there shall be lots of times the reader would be recquired to fit into the poets shoes to be able to view things as they are. He says “ And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you” He shows that , the most important and significant parts of his life were “i” and “me” .He is also very hopeful of living life to the fullest by his say that ,” Hoping to cease not till death.” This shows his desire to go on living and not to die. He contin. He shows his simplicity andself reliance inthe verse that says the “Creeds and schools in abeyance. ” Abeyance means being temporarily inactive in the creeds of school to show his simplicity in the cares of life (Loving). There are further things that reveal his transcendental ideas by writing in his poem that i “celebrates myself .”
In this section he exemplifies his transcendental ideas by the use of the style of natural symbols. He amplies nature to be a spring board for meditation . He goes ahead to invite his soul to contemplate about the summer grass which helps in bulding his transcendentalist idea. He further reveals his theme of transcendentalist by his optimism. In his transcendental idea, being optimistic means looking for every good thing in humanity. In his search for meaning , he decides to “harbor for good.”
Section16 –Whitman feeling the connection with human beings
Mostly, in his works, he identifies himself with the various classes of people at different times. He is able to associate with the young as well as the old folks. He is able to relate also with the different dimensions of life. He says that he is able to cope with bad and good times. He considers all nations as significant regardless of its size, mighty or weak. There is no distinction between those who come from the different parts of the country. In most of his trying to emphasize his cases, he opts to employ the technique of using lists. This helps in adding weight to his central focus of the point being driven home.
In this section, he has a catalogue of his he many occupations like; a mechanic, a farmer, gentleman, artist, sailor, fancy-man, prisoner, physician, lawyer, priest among many. This use of a list makes it more easy to see the fact that he is able to relate to various groups of people in his set up. He goes ahead to imaginehimself living in all parts of America. From New York, California, Texas, Canada, Mexico, vermount, Ohio, Maine, Wisconsin and finally Indiana. This use of list to describe the various different people he has dealed with together with him having travelled to different parts of the country makes himan all-round person who is conversant with various cultures of people. He also employs yhe use of opposite to show the importance of being all-inclusive. He never agrees to be classified because he wants to be all round.
Section 39-reverence of the savage and the uncivilized
In his eyes , he views everyone as equal. No one is special and everyone is of the same nature. In this section, he admires the lawless behaviour, the plainness of the use of language and the naivety potrayed. He show how the savage have not the care of the world in any way. The savage is describe as one who other people would always want to be copied by him. Whitmans recomends that the naive should continue in his naivety carry on using the simple words which are liked to the grass.Though this kind of treatment , the savage is still unique in this in itself helps exemplify the essence of self-reliance. The savage though doen’t get any bit of yearning for for the comforts of the civilized ones. Whitman is there to inspire that one should follow their own path of liking rather than try to copy others. This would make individuals realize their calling in life by remaining true to their turn of events (Folsom).
He is later opposed to the idea that one can become fully satisfied even after acquiiring all the knowledge . It’s from this point of view that one is able to understand that there is no point of experiencing everything. He makes the use of symblosim once again but this time ,he combines it with imagery when he describes the appearance and mannerism of the naive person. He draws a picture who everyone gazes at due to their naivety, one who has uncombed hair and with the general talk and laughing so freely. He is illustrated as a person who walks in a slow pace for the fear of what others are thinking about him.Throgh these description of the savage person an image is created in the head which helps rely the point home.
Section 24- Power
This section presents some of the Whitmans basic principles. He at one point calls himself ,a ‘kosmos”, to mean the universe. This goes along inthe poets definition of the self to mean that he is one who is able to love all people . It’s stated that , through him many long and dumb voices of prisoners ,slaves, dwarfs and thieves who had previously been deemed to be down trodden but are now transfigured after articulation. He also describes the lust if the various parts of the body which to him is a miracle. At one instance he says , “The scent of these armpits aroma finer than prayer.”There is an overall comprehensive description of the poet’s power. He claims, “With the twirl of my tongue I encompass world and volumes of world. Speech is
The twin of my vision”
The poet is self appraising and thereby describing himself as mystical and gross. He also feels that he is a part of everything that has come in his life and of everything he had seen. He nevertheless is poet who is depicted as one of balance. This is more so because he is able to accept both the good and the bad that come in his universe. He is able to accept all life that comes; whether naked and bare, noble and ignoble, crude or refined, pleasant and painful, or beautiful and ugly. Both the physical and the spiritual aspects of his vision have an organic unity just like the body and the soul. The poet realizes that both the physical and the spiritual are aspects of the divine. The conclusions of all things are reached at a point where the poet experiences an ecstasy of love through the contemplation of what grass means with reference with what it means in the mystical experience. To his understanding, all physical aspects of life are as deathless as the grass. He employs the definitive use of language to show the relationship between grass and aspects of life.
Section 18 death and immortality
This section salutes all the members of the all humanity. Grass which has been an epic of the poem plays an important symbol to suggest the divinity of the common things. Through nature and grass, an important theme of death and immortality is well exemplified. The grass depicts a symbol of an ongoing cycle of this present life in nature and through this, each man is assured of his part in immortality. Nature becomes like an emblem of God since His eternal presence in the very nature is well evident in all surroundings. Grass becomes like the key to the secrets between the relationship between man and the divinity. Therefore, it’s brought out more clearly that, God is everything and at the same time everything is God. This section mostly deals with the issues of life, death, nature and God. Their primary role is to reveal the nature through which the poet travels. They help to show the different scenes he faces in life as well as the spiritual knowledge which he takes a long time to gain. They reveal a mystical experience through the awakening of the poet’s self realization. The experience arises out of a belief that it’s possible to attain a good communion with God through the contemplation of his love. This though can be achieved without the medium of human reasoning. It becomes as a result a way of acquiring knowledge of the spiritual truths by intuition.

HONOR, COURAGE AND COMMITMENT

The Marine Corps have had a very long and distinguished history of their remarkable service to the country. Their main target is to become a Corps of men and women who can consistently uphold the highest moral character with or without having their uniforms on. From that commitment their foundation of Honor, Courage and Commitment becomes undisputable evident.
There has been a lot of agreed opinion of the U.S marine being a premier world’s warrior. This distinguished title has been attributed to the strong adherence of the marines corps core values which include, honor, courage and commitment. For the purpose of this paper, values will be defined as the goals, ideals as well as standards which are to be aimed and attained. They are both what the motives and thoughts that underlies the actions. The core values are meant to ensure that the mission and the competence of the duties of the marine are well undertaken. The values of the group cannot be compromised whatsoever and so their upholding is utterly important.
From day one, recruit are made to learn of the fact that marines are expected to do what’s right even in the face of great adversary. For them to be able to understand what doing right is, they are taught about the core values and their expected code of conduct. The Corp’s core values are Honor, Courage and Commitment. It’s these values that form the foundation of a marine’s character. Together with these core values, recruits are taught other numerous values that are connected to the core ones that help in defining them. They include discipline, integrity, teamwork, duty and the spirit of corps.
The recruits are made to go through a team week which is a period of demonstrating that they understand the meaning of doing what is right. They are also expected to reveal that, they own the right ethics and the core values. The same team week tests to see that recruits are building great efforts of are able to work in environments with minimal supervision. The learning of the core values helps the marine recruits develop that sense of maturity which would enable them take responsibilities even without their seniors supervising them. The recruits are able to now work together as a team and the teamwork discipline is now developing. The different values which a marine should learn should help in ensuring that the services of the military are based on a common ground and not implanted on a personal/individual service value. This in the long learn helps the commanding officer to know that he/she is having individuals who are operating on the same base line or are all reading from the same page when it comes to the expected code of conduct and mannerism.
Honor is a pivotal code of conduct that helps define the duties and responsibility of a person within a social gathering or set up. Some people suggest that, honor is what a person is when viewed through the eyes of the society. For the Marine Corps, the value of honor becomes a central for other qualities like honesty, integrity, responsibility as well as tradition. The Marines main focus is o upholding to the highest standards, having their personal responsibility for any action that they take, telling of the truth together with respecting customs and being courteous. This value demands the marine to distinguish him/herself with ultimate remarkable standards in their moral and their ethical conduct. Honor is a wide line of many things which a marine should have. As a marine who upholds the virtue of be honorable, one is expected to never to tell lies, never to cheat as well as never to steal. These though are not all that is all that is encompassed by this value. As a marine corps, the code of conduct is expected to be exemplarily and that they should never find themselves compromising their personal integrity.
A marine is also expected to be utterly accountable for all the action that one should commit. It’s expected that the rest of the marines should also be very much accountable for all their actions. Every marine is expected to act in a way that befits the title which he/she has earned. This means that, one is mindful of their actions to others as well as being conscious of the effects their actions have on those around them.
This value of honor has to be maintained by all since any officer who sacrifices his/her integrity sacrifices that of others too. As a result it becomes every marine’s duty to see to it that they maintain the respect and trust accorded to their title. It therefore becomes evident that the good reputation of an officer corps becomes a shared responsibility by all. This means that, the good reputation of the marines is a joint and sole responsibility of all corps. In other words, honor becomes a matter of carrying out each other’s core values without any questions.
Courage is simply stated as an honor in action. It’s also that aspect of moral strength which will heed to the inner voice of one’s own conscious irrespective of the conduct of others. It can also be said to be a mental discipline which makes one ready to adhere to some higher standards. This value deals with the moral, mental and physical strength which are required for all marines. A marine officer is expected to have a willingness to take a firm stand of what is right regardless of the possible consequences.
This kind of courage has made the corps in the military to be able to sustain them during chaos, hardships, and perils of combat. This kind of courage makes every marine to look back into their actions and can afford a smile. This value has become a hallmark of the American soldiers for more than 223 years.
Commitment is the value which calls for individual corps to promise to compete for a worthy goal whenever they are called upon. Some other values associated with this value are competence in their service, selflessness, teamwork and a high concern for other people. This value represents the ability of a person to be proficient in a person’s duty and job to others. As it is in the army, selflessness becomes a critical attribute which is required by a marine.
The Marine Corps do believe that these values are very crucial to them as an organization which helps develops a lethal team that can perform a nation’s work. It becomes evident that, strong marines who believe in the same ideals, following the same code of behavior and ethics as well as working together to fulfill the same mission are surely an unbeatable combination. These three Corps values make up the bedrock of the character of individual Marine.
Importance of the values in everyday’s life: The Marine Corps will put into practice a harmonized program that will improve transformation into Marines through a thorough, meticulous reaffirmation of Marine Corps Values, teaching and education. Everyone lives according to what they feel is valuable or according to their value system. A person’s value system motivates their thinking and dealings. Principles and leadership are strongly linked. By exploring this connection and understanding the enormous impact of own values on individual behavior, we should be better equipped as Marine leaders. By understanding human behavior, leaders are more able to evaluate, forecast, and persuade the behavior of their Marines.
Every leadership endeavor is exaggerated by the association between the values of the leader and those of the led. So the relationship of the Marines and their leaders is made easier by the existence of the values which define each person’s conduct and so everyone knows of what is expected of them. The core values are the keystone to motivation because they influence an individual’s perceptions and attitudes. To be effective leaders, the leaders must truly appreciate the importance of values in understanding human behavior. We must not only know our own values, but must also be able to assess the similarities and differences of our subordinates’ values.
Knowing the values of their Marines, leaders can communicate more effectively and provide the proper guidance necessary to effect behavior and ensure discipline. Keep in mind, the leader is primarily concerned with behavior which is enforced through policies, directives, and regulations. Attitudinal changes among subordinates may take place at a later time after behavior patterns have been enforced over a period of weeks or months.

ON A LEGAL HIGH

This essay will be based on a topic sentence: Alcohol and tobacco are the most abused legal drugs available and causes thousands of deaths a year in the United States, so legalization of marijuana and prescription pills may threaten legal protocol. Based on this outline, this essay will look into various aspects concerning the legalization of tobacco and their dangers, which even though legal, have been known to cause more deaths than most narcotics and/or prescription pills and the dangers of legal drugs, based on recent statistics and facts about them. With the widespread use and legalization of marijuana in several countries, this paper will explore the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana and other narcotics in the United States and will take a look at why some drugs have been legalized, and why others are labeled as illegal.

For a long time, man has been interested in the consumption of substances that have the ability to alter one’s mind or feelings. These substances can be broken down into legal and illegal substances with the main concern being the labeling of certain substances as illegal, and their prohibition by creation of certain penalties for their use.
The profitability of drug dealing would reduce or be entirely eliminated if the importation, sale and use of drugs were to be legalized. As a result, the violence involved in drug dealing would be reduced as there would be no financial incentive to commit violent crimes. Rather than buying a product of unknown quality and dosage from a corner dealer, a potential customer would probably prefer to buy a market-tested product from his or her local pharmacy, thus reducing the role of the drug dealer (Repeal, 2010).
A drug can simply be defined as any substance which may modify one or more of a living organism’s functions when absorbed. Other definitions exclude food which might exclude alcoholic beverages as a drug because according to these definitions, beverages are also classified as foods. In reality, any substance that alerts the structure or function in a living organism is a drug. Therefore, though alcohol does not carry all the risks of addiction as other drugs do, can be defined as a drug as it affects the body and can lead to severe threats to life and health.
According to a recent public health survey, 52% of adults 18 years of age and above are regular drinkers while 13% of adults are infrequent drinkers (Cook, 2007). The number of deaths resulting from liver disease due to excessive alcohol consumption in the same year was 14,406 while the number of alcohol-induced deaths was 23,199. Over 3 million teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 are alcoholics, with girls beginning to drink at much younger ages. Also, there are over 1,360,000 drug prisoners in America, constituting nearly 80% of the total number of prisoners in the United States (Raistrick, 2005). This has been prohibited in the United States.
Though tobacco in limited quantities is a stimulant, it can lead to addiction and is extremely difficult to overcome as it contains nicotine. In the United States, cigarette smoking has been the most common method of taking tobacco. Apart from being highly addictive, smoking is a leading cause of stroke and the third leading cause of death in the U.S. The tar in a cigarette exposes the user and those around him or her to lung cancer and other bronchial disorders. According to a recent report by the World Health Organization, cigarettes result in more than one in five American deaths, with over 50,000 people dying from secondhand smoke annually. Only one of the hundreds of cigarette brands in the United States uses fire safe technology making cigarettes the number one cause of fire-related deaths.
Though legal, alcohol and tobacco cause more physical, financial and emotional harm than all other illegal drugs combined. Alcohol has been known to damage the liver and even cause poisoning which often leads to death while tobacco has been known to cause severe lung damage. This is unlike marijuana, which studies have shown that it has certain medicinal values and positive effects on the environment, yet it is still illegal in most countries and states. The reason as to the legalization of these two and not marijuana is that if marijuana were to be legalized, anyone wanting to grow it would be able to and for this reason; it would not be considered a commodity, thus would not be not be taxable.
California is the only state that has legalized the use of marijuana by individuals for medicinal purposes. Several other states such as Washington and Massachusetts are slated to consider marijuana legalization bills. There are several points supporting the legalization of marijuana, a significant one being that it has medicinal benefits and is helpful in the treatment of patients undergoing chemotherapy. Also, if taken in moderate quantities, it is no more harmful than tobacco or alcohol and increased tax revenues would be realized from its legalization. Moreover, drug-related crime would drastically reduce resulting in the loss of significance of drug mafia; hence the police force would be able to focus on more serious crimes.
However, marijuana has been considered to be a stepping stone drug that could lead to addiction of other drugs like heroin and cocaine. By inhaling the smoke, passive smokers are normally exposed to the damage caused by secondhand smoke from marijuana usage. Though some people are strongly against the legalization of marijuana, others argue that legalizing it may increase crime levels hence it is safer to keep marijuana offenders locked up. This is because most of those involved in the unlawful trade of the drug are also involved in other crimes. Legalizing marijuana would also be considered immoral by many Americans because religious codes forbid the use of intoxicating substances.
Addiction can be defined as an abnormally strong desire for, and dependence on something that is physically or psychologically habit- forming. More so, drug addiction can be defined as an abnormal condition which arises due to regular drug use, especially narcotic drugs. Narcotics, on the other hand, can be defined as any psychoactive compound that induces sleep, reduces pain and may change the mood or behavior of is consumer. Alcohol and tobacco can therefore be classified as narcotics.
Alcohol and tobacco cause the greatest danger to children and teenagers as they both represent serious gateway drugs used by teenagers and children. Alcohol and cigarette advertising is designed to appeal to the youth, by portraying smokers and drinkers as fun, sexy and successful. It is for this reason that advertising is responsible for up to 40 percent of alcohol and cigarette use by teenagers. Another reason is that drugs such as heroin are easily accessible and affordable by teenagers.
Decriminalization refers to the decrease of the penalty for an act deemed illegal by statute law, though not essentially legalizing it. Re-evaluation of drug laws is vital in the reduction of harmful effects of drugs. The need for change in these laws cannot be ignored as the amount of money spent by the U.S governments on a failing drug war could be better applied to other alternatives such as education and health care. Alternate means of dealing with drug issues, such as decriminalization, would yield a lesser burden on society and would benefit the United States as a whole by reducing the financial burdens placed on its people.
According to many Americans, drugs are only a metropolitan problem, but in reality, they affect everyone, both users and nonusers. As a result of the failure of the current drug policy, the government should consider alternate approaches such as the decriminalization of marijuana in order to reduce the negative effects associated with drugs (Gual, 2007). This, among other changes in the policies relating to drug crimes, would lead to increased tax revenues, reduced crime and safety due to government regulations.

INVESTING IN STARBUCKS

Before deciding on what kind of investment that one would like to commit their money into, it’s always advisable to investigate and know the facts that would make one assured of some returns. The investigation would of course mean to have a clear understanding of how the company one is planning to invest in has been doing in the past and to try and evaluate the possible future trends and know if the decision to invest is sound. For that reason, the report below looks at the opportunity of investing in the Starbucks Company. A clear description of the company and how it has been able to emerge as the worlds’ largest coffee house company (Gould, 2007).
Starbucks Corporation is a well known international coffee and coffeehouse chain which is based in Seattle, Washington. It has grown to be the largest coffeehouse Company in the whole world with more than 17,800 stores distributed in more than 49 countries and about 11,000 of them based locally in United States. It is involved in selling drip brewed coffee, espresso drinks, hot and cold drinks, salads, coffee beans, Panini as well as hot and cold sandwiches. It has an entertainment and music division which is mostly concerned with the marketing of books, films and music. The company has got lots of its products which are season depending on the locality of a store. The company has seen a lot of growth from the years it was formed and became the local coffee bean roaster as well as its retailer. There has been a major rate on the way the stores are opened both locally and abroad. (Philip Kotler,Hermawan Kartajaya, 2004)
There are various reasons why Starbucks is a good investment idea that one can get. It’s a company which is traded in the NASDAQ as common stock and its symbol is SBUX. There is a difference in trading in the NASDAQ and trading in the New York stock exchange. Whereas in the New York stock exchange where traders carry their buying and selling on the floor where the traders get to meet each other. The difference in trading in the NASDAQ is that, trading doesn’t need a physical traders to get to the floor but computers that communicate with each other and deals take place just like that. (Michelli, 2004) This means that, if one wants to invest in the Starbucks, they would need to contact their stockbroker who would look up to the Company’s symbol which would be used to invest your money through the market dealer. Another advantage of trading in the NASDAQ is the fact that one can be able to get the stock quoting services that enables a new investor as well as an old one know how their stock is performing.
One of the things that assure an investor of good earnings in the company is the high franchise value which leads to some excellent financial results. This is to mean that the company enjoys good consumer goodwill. This can be affirmed by a result from the revenues earned in 1997 which were $975,389,000 to amazing results in 2001 of $2,648,980,000. This should be a reason an investor would rely on for assurance of better outcomes. Another major thing that makes Starbuck future look even brighter is the fact that they have drawn more focus to retail sales.

Fight over fresh water

Fresh water would be defined as to have a low concentration of salt with the levels normally below 1%. These fresh water areas could be divided into ponds and lakes, streams and rivers, as well as wetlands. Scientifically speaking, fresh water areas are further divided into lentic systems, which are described as Stillwater lakes, ponds, swamps, and mires. The other group is the lactic systems which are the running water together with those underground waters which normally flows through rocks and aquifers. The sources of most fresh water are through precipitation from the atmosphere in the various forms like rain, mist, and snow. Fresh water is critical to the survival of many organisms. Therefore fresh water becomes important natural resources necessary for the survival of all ecosystems. The fresh water is usually put into various human activities such as irrigation, home consumption and industrial use being the major uses. The necessity of this commodity would mean that, if it was available in scarce, people or nation would end up fighting over it ownership and use. (Annin)
Across the globe, there are clear-cut forests, changing water patterns, pollution and glaciers are disappearing very fast all pointing to the diminishing availability of clean and easily assessable drinking water. As these conditions worsen, there is the likelihood of less and less arable land which can’t support farming which would feed the whole globe. The crops needed by the expected rising population growth will certainly need water which is declining in levels. In some regions like Darfur, there is already a shortage of clean water and have become preys to desertification which has been caused by high temperatures, soil erosion, deforestation and changing weather patterns. If the trends continue, there will be an ongoing concern over the once fertile land becoming inhospitable to supporting human life. This has forced people to move to those areas where their thriving is supported. Since more people will be moving to the same area in need of the clean water, a likelihood of a conflict arising is more probable. (Outwater)
There are some places also where trade agreements have meant that, the water sources have been opening to foreign investors. The investors may take the opportunity to make the commodity saleable rather than being a human right. This is an unacceptable situation which means that those who are made to purchase it will result into resistance. If it ever gets to those extreme cases where those people who can get it are those who can afford it, then there will be an uprising like it never was. This is simply because, next to the air we breathe, there is nothing more valuable to human life than fresh water and people will do anything possible to attain it. After all, they would have been left with no other choice than to die.
The major aspect that would lead to a fight over water is the decline in the usable water and overall increase in its pollution. This would mean again that less of it would be put to good use for income generation to the people. There would be several manifestation of the fight over fresh water which includes: inadequate access of safe drinking water to millions of people, limited access for water for sanitation and proper waste disposal for billions of people, overuse and excessive pollution of water resources leading to harm on biodiversity. Regional conflicts over scarce water resources sometimes would lead to warfare that were almost experienced last year in two east African countries struggling over the ownership of an island in a fresh water lake. It has been the concern of economist that, the retarding water situation has occurred due to lack of proper usage of rights, some government regulations and continued subsidies in the price of water making its consumption to rise. (Pearce)
