Each team analyzes the impact of cybercrime from a human factors perspective on a business, a small government agency, or a nongovernmental organization (nonprofit). Choose and briefly describe two or three existing example organizations generally in the same industry, and describe the mission of each. Discuss how each organization has been targeted for different types of past cybercrimes reported in news articles, including threats and vulnerabilities, plus regulatory requirements for each organization and possible liability issues. PURPOSE
For this essay, you’ll choose a text you are interested in and you’ll learn more about it, researching the author/creator and the audience and looking closely at the text itself. For this essay, a “text” isn’t restricted to print genres, such as essays, books, magazines, short stories, political speeches, or newspaper articles, though those texts would work well. A text can be anything that existed in a certain time that you can analyze. Non-print examples of texts include films, TV shows, and songs. It’s best to choose something with some substance to it, written at a significant time in history by an interesting person. Even if you love Hannah Montana, an analysis of one of her songs probably wouldn’t work for this essay. Feel free to be creative and choose something fun.
Through the work of analyzing the context of an important text, we learn a lot about not just the rhetorical importance and composition of the text, but also about the historical, social and political significance of the text, and of the time in which it was created. We are then better prepared to understand any text we encounter.
After winning the 2001 election, the new governor of Virginia, Mark Warner, named Phillip Shucet to head the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Shucet was eager to bring his private-sector experience and management experience to VDOT, and he knew it would be a challenge. VDOT was renowned for its engineering innovation and cutting-edge research. More recently, though, the department’s public reputation had become damaged, and employee morale had hit rock bottom. The case describes the situation at the time the commissioner took over and offers a glimpse into the workings of a large governmental agency.
Part 1 of your paper should address the following:
1. Identify three management theories (one from classical approaches, one from the human relations approach, and one from the modern management approaches) that you think would be applicable in managing VDOT and the impact this change might have on organizational behavior within VDOT.
