Health Practice Evaluation

Critically evaluate The XX Hospital Intensive Care Unit Team Leader Self Directed Learning Package (a copy of the self directed learning package is attached) in light of the literature, national and health service policy, and other appropriate sources (especially research on large ICU leadership materials around Australia and New Zealand, could also include some large business model of leadership development within large organizations)
The evaluation should be undertaken using at least three (3) of the perspectives identified in Part 1 (The first issue identified by the past participants was the time required to complete the SDLP, as nurses are required to complete the SDLP in their own time which on completion range from 7-20hours. Another concern was the types of questions within the SDLP. Many felt majority of the questions were basic knowledge for competent practitioners resulting in lost interest or restricting time to research other areas of development. Performance management, communication skills, National Emergency Access Target (set by Australian Department of health and aging, and legislations relevant to ICU nursing leadership appeared to be of little focus. Lastly identified by junior nurses in the leadership module was that the team leader role encompasses such a large range of skills including clinical, managerial, legal and interpersonal, a SDLP was not adequate for nurses that had less than 10-15 years of clinical experiences including life experiences. It was suggested that perhaps a vocational qualification in management would provide more systematic approach in training our future leaders in nursing)

Environmental Impact Assessment

The scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment report includes description of the project, description of the existing environment, potential impacts (noise pollution, air pollution, water pollution, solid wastes, public safety and health), and socio-economic aspects, as well as mitigation measures, a management plan, and a monitoring system.

Comparative Critical Analysis

Write a comparative analysis that critiques how the RA essays noted above address a shared concern or issue. Identify and unpack a meaningful relationship between the two sources claims, ideas, approaches, and/or assumptions, using details from each to support the comparative critical analysis.

Note: You must work to incorporate at least 5 new vocabulary terms into your Comparative Critical Analysis essay. These vocabulary terms should come from those listed by you on your Double-Entry note logs for the Model Family unit readings. These terms should be highlighted on your final draft (using the Word option) for easy recognition.

Strategies:
Consider the language, evidence, and underlying assumptions in each source. Use The Method to begin identifying patterns of repetition and contrast to arrive at a key significant comparison that offers readers something that is not immediately apparent.
As you think through the relationship between the two texts, review WA 99-100 for Difference within Similarity and WA 156-8 for help making your claim more analytical, rather than a tally of obvious similarities and differences.
Remember that an effective critical comparison integrates both texts throughout, critiquing each in terms of the other, WA 271-3 Making Sources Speak.

Discrimination and Prejudice

Part I.  Personal Connection

Describe your reactions, perceptions and significant insights gained from the reading and activities, being specific to demonstrate your engagement of ALL the readings.  So that means incorporate insights from all the material. That said, as you know, I’m not looking for a simple “report” on each reading…weave it together as you make connections and applications between the readings and to your life/society.  As you do, focus on these lines of thought:

Ÿ      What key things did you learn about prejudice and discrimination (for you? In general?)

Ÿ      What, if anything did you really identify with in the readings, the other activities?  Are you aware of times in your life where you (or someone you know/love) have maybe benefited from some angle of “privilege.”  Or, on the flip side, are you aware of a time where you personally experienced some unfavorable bias “against” you. (It may not have been intentional, but unfavorable bias is the flip side of “unearned privilege.”

Part II. Organization Application

How does discrimination or prejudice show itself (subtly or not) in an organization, group, or team with which you are or have been affiliated?  Again, this could be a past or present organization in your life. And, remember, prejudice and discrimination it doesn’t have to be ill-intended or malicious…sometimes these things are not at all intentional or evil but still impact people and/or situations inside or outside the organization. Describe enough of a situation concretely to provide context and use concepts from the readings in your response.

If you don’t think there is any bias happening in ANY organization you are (or ever have been) in, then think about your friends and family’s experience as a source of potential connection. Think again more carefully and perhaps revisit the readings to clarify the various forms or the ways we might do things (like slide 23 in audio/visual lesson 7…or think through the chapter 6 material more (that’s the Thomas chapter on Group Dynamics) and remember the power of self-fulfilling prophecy and fundamental attribution error, etc.  These things happen so often we hardly “see” them anymore unless we pay attention to notice.

Principle of management

You are required to plan a business venture.  To do this you need to use the methods and select tools and ideas from those that you have learned about in the first five weeks of the unit. The task is to use management skills to plan to open and run a family owned independent jewellery store in a business unit in The Mall in Luton.

It is recommended that you visit the Mall and have a look at some of the business units (shop spaces) that are used. You are not looking at the large stores but the relatively small spaces.  This is important as it will give you a sense of the stock requirements and shop fittings that are required.

Stage 1 –  Planning.  The first step is Planning.  There are a number of useful tools for this and you should select one appropriate one as your planning framework.  You should think carefully about what the inputs of the business are.  Think of the activity from Seminar 1 and use this as a guide (be aware the business in the assignment is more complex).  This stage is the initial research and decisions about what is required to set up and then run the business as an ongoing concern.

Stage 2 – Human Resources.  You should identify the key roles, their requirements and select appropriate selection methods for identifying the most appropriate people.  You should justify this choice of method with brief reference to the techniques and research discussed in the core text.

Stage 3 – Operations Management.  Based on your initial planning you should plan for the inputs and outputs of the business.  You should use an appropriate framework to identify the important operations for the regular running of you business.

Stage 4 –  Financial Forecast.  You should provide a basic financial forecast for your business.  This should be in the form of a balance sheet and profit and loss.  You should use Excel and show your calculations.

cars, fashion, or music

Choose a topic that helps you explore that idea; you do not have to write about cars, fashion, or music.  Write about your topic in an “intellectually serious” way.  What does that mean?  How will you do that?  What sources will you use?

environmental law

Prompt: Considering major disagreements among the states in relation to multilateral climate change negotiations, what kind of global climate change policy you suggest for the future? Or, what would be your alternative proposal to international policy community. While answering this question, you should consider:
– Environmental, economic, energy and development policies in developed and developing countries
– Uneveness of the countries’ geopolitical and geographical conditions

Book (City of Refuge)

4. Both SJ and Craig suffer symptoms of what might be diagnosed as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as did many Katrina survivors.  Compare and contrast how these problems manifest themselves, what effects PTSD has on these two men and those around them, how they cope with the symptoms, to what degree they are aware of their condition, and what their long term prognoses are.
