Requirements of this assignment:
Due February 26th, 2013:
• Brief write up, detailing the type of company, as well as the challenges that small businesses face in
maintaining accurate and timely financial statements (approx. one page)
• Development of Chart of Accounts
• Opening entries to set up your company (Submit an opening balance sheet and trial balance)
Due March 19th, 2013
• Budget data for three months (I/S only)
• Actual data for three months. (Submit Ending Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, Income Statement
(budget vs. actual), AR customer aged detail and AP vendor aged payable detail, General ledger detail
for all accounts for the period covered, and Backup of your Simply Accounting file
This assignment will use the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll modules.
General Ledger accounts must include the following:
• Current and capital assets
• Current and Long-term liabilities
• Two or more sources of revenue
• Fifteen expense accounts
Volume of data must include:
• 20 AP invoices per month (60 in total)
• 8 AP cheques per month (at least 24 in total)
• 10 AR invoices per month (30 in total)
• 6 receipts per month (at least 18 in total)
• 6 pay periods for at least three employees (done through the payroll cheque run feature)
The data is not factual, nor is the budget based on any sort of a budget process. However, this is an
opportunity to work with budget variances and to use the software without having preprinted keystrokes
given to you. Note – The AP and AR invoices should not be set as recurring transactions. Also, the AP and AR
transactions should be recorded through the payables and receivables modules respectively.

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to assess your work on an individual level. While the class discussion and collaboration is extremely beneficial to learning the material, you need to show, as an individual, a working knowledge of the course material, such as applying the writing process, reading actively, incorporating analysis, etc. This assignment specifically integrates textual evidence as well.
Goals:

Create a well developed response of at least 350 words to the following assignment.
Apply MLA formatting to the essay: 12 pt. Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1” margins, last name and page number in the upper right hand corner,  and a heading including your name, instructor’s name, class, and date. You can title your work Reading Quiz 3.
Integrate textual evidence using direct quotations with correct in-text citations. Also, provide detailed analysis of those quotations in order to show the information’s relevance to your main idea.
Understand and apply standard written English. Use appropriate vocabulary and avoid mechanical and grammatical errors.
Assignment:

Use specific examples from Baron’s “The New Technologies of the Word,” Turkle’s “How Computers Change the Way We Think,” and Bugeja’s “Facing the Facebook,” respond to the following:
What is Bugeja’s argument or stance? How does he support this argument throughout the entire text (include at least three quotations).
How does Bugeja’s text compare to the other assigned readings? Include quotations from each essay.
Using Bugeja’s essay and referencing the other essays you mention in number two, how does The Arlington Reader approach technology and education or technology and communication? Is the text positive towards particular technologies or is it negative? Be specific and use quotations.
Make sure to use correct in-text citations and to explain your quotations.
Draft your response to Reading  Quiz 3 and upload it as a Word document. Make sure to use the entire writing process by planning, drafting, revising, and editing the work before submitting it.
You will submit your file using this assignment link, similar to submitting your other assignments, such as Reading Quiz 1 and your preliminary drafts. Double check to ensure your submission is successful, and submit the assignment early enough to allow for any possible technical difficulties.
For grading, I will use a scale of 0-10. The content of your response is worth 5 points; the style (grammar and mechanics) is worth 3 points; and the formatting (MLA) is worth 2 points.

ENG 111 – Annotated Bibliography Guidelines
Purpose:
The purpose of creating an annotated bibliography is to become familiar with your research and to present a working knowledge of the topic and relative information.
Goals:
•    Create an annotated bibliography that completes the assignment included below.
•    Apply MLA formatting to the bibliography: 12 pt. Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1” margins, last name and page number in the upper right hand corner, and a heading including your name, instructor’s name, class, and date. Also include a title. All works cited entries should be in MLA format.
•    Understand and apply standard written English. Use appropriate vocabulary and avoid mechanical and grammatical errors.

Assignment:
Create an annotated bibliography of at least four sources that completes the following guidelines. Each source should have an MLA works cited entry. Under each entry, you should have one paragraph that includes the following information:
•    The author’s or source’s credentials
•    A summary of the source
•    The author’s or source’s intended audience
•    How you plan to incorporate this source into your essay
The entries should be arranged in alphabetical order. The assignment will be graded on a scale of 0-100 points: 50 points for content; 30 points for style; and 20 points for formatting.

Section 1
Complete the chart below as described above. Put the theme on the bold black line and the author’s names in the column under the appropriate theme.  The table will expand if you need more room.

Section II
In this section use the chart above and discuss each theme and give examples from each of the 5 readings that support the theme.  Be specific with your examples from the readings.  Word limit is 1,000.  Your grade will be lowered if you exceed the word limit by more than 100 words! Be clear and precise in your explanation for how each of the articles matches the theme you have selected.

Suggestion: Use the chart to organize your essay. Discuss one theme at a time and each of the readings in the order in which you have placed the author names on the chart above. When you have finished discussing theme 1 with each of the readings, then go to theme 2 and discuss each of the 5 readings … and then theme 3 and the 5 readings. Good luck!
