Transformation

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER

Translation is what my paper is on

The Learning Resources for this week provide an overview of transformations, such as translations, rotations, and reflections, and the ways that these concepts relate to the development of spatial sense. For this week’s Discussion, you will conduct an online search to uncover more information about transformations and to discover technology tools that will help students to build an understanding of these concepts on the coordinate plane.

You will complete an activity for this Discussion known as a “jigsaw.” The idea is that just as individual pieces complete a jigsaw puzzle, each individual’s contribution to the Discussion adds to the entire group’s understanding and learning.

To prepare:

  • Investigate one type of transformation based on your assigned group below
Group Type of Transformation Word to Add in Subject Line of Discussion Thread Candidates With Last Name Beginning With
1 Translation Translation A–H
2 Rotation Rotation I–Q
3 Reflection Reflection R–Z
  • Visit the Walden Library and other online resources to gather more information about your assigned transformation. Find at least one scholarly article or website to share with colleagues. Reflect on the insights you gained while examining this resource. The resource must be less than 5 years old.
  • Look for a technology tool to use with students to explore your type of transformation on the coordinate plane.
  • Consider how learning experiences that focus on transformations may help your students develop spatial sense.

By Day 3 of Week 7:

  • Post a brief summary of your selected article or website and explain the insights you gained by examining this resource. Then, explain how you could use a technology tool with your students to explore your type of transformation on the coordinate plane. Explain how learning experiences that focus on transformations will help your students develop spatial sense. Identify the type of transformation you were assigned in the subject line of your posting. In the body of your post, provide the link(s) or cite the resources that informed your post.

In answering this question, please note that you are expected to draw on material from across all the topics on the course so far. All essays should contain a full list of works referred to (not included in the word count), and must be entirely your own unaided work. Plagiarism – using the words of anyone other than yourself unquoted and without attribution – is checked for using specialist software and will result in a reduced mark (which may be zero) or, in some circumstances, more severe penalties. In addition to the guidance you will already have received on plagiarism, there is information available on Moodle

Select one of the following three questions( first one only)

  1. What are the main drivers of change within an organisation or industry with which you are familiar? Discuss and critically evaluate what the likely resistors are to any change initiatives you deem to be appropriate, what actions you would take to reduce these, and what leadership styles would be most and least appropriate in the situation described.
  1. Outline and critically evaluate the leadership of a recent change initiative in either your own organisation, or one with which you are familiar. Assess what resistance, if any, was offered to that change initiative and make recommendations for improving the implementation of change in similar circumstances in the future. Illustrate your answer by practical examples, and make reference to relevant literature to support your analysis. Where relevant, inform your answer by comparing the leadership of change in your chosen organisation to research findings and benchmark examples of successful practice in other businesses.
  1. The command and control style of leadership is outdated and irrelevant in the 21st century, especially in the context of organisations that: are dealing with complex rather than simple conditions; and facing dynamic rather than static change. Critically evaluate this assertion in relation to traditional versus contemporary leadership styles and the current business environment.
  • Assessment Criteria:
  • Maximum 4000 words or less by – 5%
  • Evidence of reading wider than the core texts
  • Appropriate reference to academic theory
  • Evaluation of theories cited

  • Module specification

Module rationale:

Modern organisations face unprecedented change due to increasing complexity, turbulence, and competition in their external environment. Globalisation has also increased the markets and opportunities for more growth and revenue. To succeed and prosper in today’s business world, organisations themselves need to continually embrace change in order to: deal with new technologies; respond to shifting customer demands; identify new innovation opportunities; respond appropriately to other business critical issues. Depending on the organisational context, change initiatives may at times be incremental or radical, evolutionary or revolutionary, enabling or disruptive.  However, change does not happen in a vacuum. It requires leadership skills and abilities in order to shift individuals, teams, and organisations from a current state to a desired future state.

Aims and distinctive features:

The aims of this module are to: develop leadership competencies that will enable students to address contemporary challenges of change and adaptation within their organizations; equip them with appropriate theories, knowledge, and tools to enable them to lead their organisation (or parts of it) through successful change initiatives; increase students’ understanding of ways in which they  can be more effective in their interactions with others in organizationalchange settings.

A distinctive feature of this module is the way in which students are given the opportunity to explore the relevance of theory to practice. This is achieved by means of a mixed method approach to learning and teaching that involves: directed reading; critical discussion of personal experiences through staff-student interaction; group exercises; learning teams; case studies; problem-based learning through experiential exercises; videos of real cases.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of the module students will be able to:

  • Understand and apply leadership and change management theories, frameworks and tools within various business and organisational contexts.
  • Demonstrate critical awareness of factors that may influence one’s ability to lead change effectively and sustainably.
  • Demonstrate competencies in organizational analysis and diagnosis.
  • Critically examine appropriate ways of dealing with resistance to change.
  • Evaluate appropriate strategies for leading organisational change initiatives.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of; the need for ethical leadership within organizations; the role that politics can sometimes play.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and awareness of key issues relating to diversity in the workplace

Learning and teaching strategy:

A mixture of student led sessions, case studies, individual and group experiential exercises, diagnostic questionnaires, class discussions, videos, workshop activities, and lectures. There will be 36 contact hours. In addition students will be expected to undertake supplementary work as indicated by your Tutors.

Assessment strategy:

One 4,000 word Essay: students will be required to answer one question from a choice of three.

Arrangements for revision and private study:

The module is supported by textbooks, research papers, and an extensive reading list. This list will support the student in finding materials to explore all of the concepts covered on the module.

Fail to rebrand the company

This is a short research paper with only 3~4 pages. Use the company of JC Penney to discuss why such company will fail to re-brand. Is there anything related to business strategy? If possible, please provide any data for company’s failure of re-branding in general. I will provide some article and news from website about JC Penney. please do find other sources to support the paper. The number of sources will depend on writer; however, I will set it to 8. It is also allowed to insert couple graphic (picture, table) in paper to support the explanation.

Outsourcing Risks

Prepare a minimum 4 page paper (minimum requirement not including title, abstract, and reference pages) that identifies the possible risks to an organization in each of the following outsourcing situations: a) the use of an external service provider for your data storage; b) the use of an enterprise service provider for processing information systems applications such as a payroll, human resources, or sales order taking; c) the use of a vendor to support your desktop computers; and d) the use of a vendor to provide network support. For each risk identified, propose strategies to mitigate them. One mitigation strategy that cannot be proposed in the paper is to eliminate the outsourcing by bringing the situation in house.

HOMELESS MAN INTERVIEWS HIMSELF

compare or contrast “untouchable” by kozo with “HOMELESS MAN INTERVIEWS HIMSELF” essay

* To identify Kozol’s view on homelessness, consider his rhetoric, such things as:
The words he choose
The numerous descriptive passages of tragic and horrible scenarios of homeless people
The extended paragraphs at the end which chart the overwhelmingly negative attitude of the public at large towards homeless people

Study these passages and ask yourself: What do they imply about Kozol’s attitude towards the homeless population? Is he sympathetic? Compassionate? Concerned? Does he view homeless people as helpless victims? If so, victims of what? Why does he spend so much time showing the negative attitudes of the public—which, by the way, includes you and me (Who is the public? Look in the mirror).
Is he implicitly indicting the public or accusing us of being so impatient, cruel, and insensitive? Is our refusal to see homelessness as rectifiable making the problem worse? What do you see in Kozol’s essay as answers to these questions?

Remember: The first step in critical reading is to understand accurately where the author is coming from and draw your conclusions and reactions to that. Respond to what Kozol does say or imply, not to what he doesn’t say/imply.

Then consider Bliss’s “Homeless Man interviews himself.”

Furthermore, be prepared to draw conclusions about Bliss’s attitude and/or perspective on homelessness. Remember: He has chosen homelessness; it is a preference. And he implies that there are more homeless people—vagrant types—that share his sentiments.

I would speculate that there are more of the Bliss type of homeless than we realize.

You might consider: Does Kozol’s essay take into account the Bliss type of homeless person? And vice versa, does Bliss take into account Kozol’s type? Does each author in a sense leave out or ignore the other type of homelessness? Why? What purpose does each author have? What perspective?

My purpose above is to pose questions that the texts raise so that you can pursue them for yourself. They are pertinent questions.

3. As far as organization of your essay

*Introductions and Conclusions—your essay should include a full paragraph of introduction and a satisfying conclusion. Use the template examples in PP 60-62 and 70-72. Experiment with them and choose one to imitate for your essay if you find it useful.

Thesis—state or refer directly to the two subjects—Kozol’s view, Bliss’s view—and an assertion that lays out the purpose of your essay.

Body—here you should use the block and/or the alternating pattern to present points of comparison, contrast, or both—whatever purpose you have in your paper.

Research and Writing Human Services

Assignment 2: A Brief Literature Review: THIS IS A 2 TO 3 PAGE PAPER.

A strong literature review plays a foundational role in setting up a research proposal or a dissertation. Therefore, for any research, it is important to understand how to structure the literature review and include all the key pieces of information on which the research proposal will be built.

In your literature review, you should do the following:

Integrate and evaluate the literature by examining the patterns existing among the articles.

Discuss which studies were stronger.
Identify the weaknesses or gaps found in the literature.

Discuss the academic and practical significance of prior research.
Reiterate the need for your study by showing how your proposed study will fill a gap in the current body of knowledge.

When writing a literature review, it is important that you do not simply summarize each article. You have to synthesize the information you have gathered from all the articles that you reviewed. Integrating the information will allow you to come to a better understanding of the topic and identify areas in the field where there is a lack of research.

In this assignment, you will practice writing a literature review. In addition, as you review the three given articles for your literature review, you will get the opportunity to take a closer look at the use of qualitative research in the human services field.

Tasks:

Read the following articles from the University online library resources (I UPLOADED ALL 3 OF THEM!):

ARTICLE: Evaluation of evaluation studies using qualitative research methods in the social work literature (1990–2003): Evidence that constitutes a wake-up call

ARTICLE: Utility of qualitative research findings in evidence-based public health practice

ARTICLE: What is good qualitative research? A first step towards a comprehensive approach to judging rigour/quality

As you read these articles, practice your note-taking skills. Based on the information you gather, create a 2- to 3-page literature review addressing the following issues:

Benefits and weaknesses of using qualitative research in the area of human services research
Strategies for judging the quality of a qualitative research study to decide which articles should be included in a literature review and which should not be included

Submission Details:

Save your literature review in a Microsoft Word document; turn it in by NOON on Wed. Feb. 19th.

Assignment 2 Grading Criteria:
Maximum Points
