GOD AND SCIENCE

GOD AND SCIENCE
Q1
A literal interpretation of the Scriptures is an old age way of reading the scriptures and finding meaning. Literal interpretation gives words their accurate meaning without consideration of any figurative nature involved. Schmidt, MacCormack, and Langer commonly agree that people need to abandon literal interpretation and use new approaches to deriving meaning from scripture. However, they all disagree on the nature of the religious language and the reforms needed. The three take on different approaches and reasoning as to the nature of language. A literal interpretation of scriptures is considered meaningless and makes it difficult to describe scripture writings. This paper looks at the different approaches undertaken by the three as regards the nature of the religious languages and the reforms needed. Typically, religious language refers to statements made that concerns God or gods. Literal interpretation and reforms are aimed at giving scriptures a different way of understanding and comprehension the scriptures.
Langer argues that communication is a product of symbolization. Symbols are the most effective way of communicating. Language has been the primary form of communication and was originally the main form of passing information. Langer focuses on the use of symbolism arguing that the mind is good at creating symbols most of the time. In opting for the use of figurative speech, Langer is devising a form of language that has been the best way of communication since time immemorial.
On the other hand, MacCormack argues that metaphor is the best tool to express scriptures, as it is a good and understandable way of communicating knowledge. MacCormack further reiterates that the use of metaphor creates precise meaning and helps express similarities. He further argues that it eliminates ambiguities. Considering that language primarily seeks to pass meaning of content, MacCormack stresses that metaphor offers the best way in which such knowledge and information can be understood. Differently, Schmidt argues that what is important is the purpose for which the meaning is used instead of the words used. In other words, Schmidt gives priority to the intention of the words instead of the objects itself. The difference in attitude by the three is vast and diverse. From the basis of the argument, it becomes rather difficult to find a common ground for the approaches. All the three approaches are based on the outcome or meaning of the scriptures or wording used.
Q 2
Several philosophers have given out their views and formed theories to address uniformity in nature that would eventually rule out miracles caused by God that would break the laws of nature. Bube uses the “God of the gaps” theory in which he argues that scientific knowledge are proof enough that God exists (Schroeder, 106). God used natural happening such as the weather, rains, and mobile objects to reach out to man and intercede in their lives. For instance, if an individual falls sick and heals miraculously, it was welcomed as God’s miracle. However, if the infected person goes for drugs from a doctor and recovers, it is attributed to the power of the human mind. The connection is, according to Bube, that people should view God from a Biblical point of view and the world as a separate object from Him. In relation to science and miracles, Einstein contends that everyone who involves himself in scientific pursuit eventually becomes influenced by the idea of a higher law of life, a being superior to man.
Einstein held that miracles are acts of excellent communications from God and are a clear manifestation of greater spirit than that of man. Miracles are ways of communication in which the superior spirits reach out and communicate to man. Einstein’s view is almost similar to Bube’s theory and way of thinking in which both of them appreciate the existence of a higher power capable to break out the principles of uniformity. With Einstein’s view, “that science without religion is lame, and religion without science is blind” is a clear manifestation that Einstein rules out uniformity in nature (Schroeder, 189). In his view, science is possible and can conform to nature. On the other hand, Tillich believes that miracles showed revelation of the potentiality of a formed nature and linked with the mystery of God. In his view, miracles form part of God and are a clear manifestation of His supreme powers.
Tillich only acknowledges that, nothing in nature can rule out the worldly miracles brought about by God. Tillich’s theory is slightly different from that of Einstein as Tillich emphasizes on God manifesting himself through the miracles and is part of the created nature. Most explanations of the philosophers are a combination of both the supernatural and the natural explaining why their theories correlate. Smith and Spivey contend that signs and wonders indicate the presence of a supreme being, God, who is working on the universe. They believe that miracles are not in any way destructions of the natural laws of nature. They both contend that God’s mighty power is at work all the time in the universe although in more restrained ways. Their theory or believe tend to differ slightly from that of the other philosophers in that they put great emphasis on the presence of God in all actions.

Illustrate how the social media has transcended the age barrier by allowing the young and old to access similar content from the Internet.

My planned focus is to illustrate how the social media has transcended the age barrier by allowing the young and old to access similar content from the Internet. I intend to define what identity is, and compare how the young and old social media users identify themselves over the Internet. As previously indicated, social media has a significant influence on an individual’s identity because it has an impact on people’s behaviors. I plan to illustrate how an individual’s identity determines his or her role in social groups including the online community. Identity also has strong influences a person’s cultural beliefs and political affiliations. The ideas I plan to use in this project include the common reasons offered by people of different ages for using social media. I intend to use statistical data on such as the Pew Research Center report on the use of social network by individuals of various age groups in 2012 used in the previous project. This will help me in preparing the PowerPoint presentation by allowing me to use visual aids in terms of graphs and charts to elaborate my arguments.
My revision on the previous report would be to update the statistics on the use of social media. I believe that there have been changes in the social media usage across different age groups since 2012 that should be reflected in my new project. I will also explore how different age groups use other social media websites for their online interactions. I have chosen to focus on the changes that have occurred in online activities across various age groups because I believe that the inception of websites such as WhatsApp have changed how individuals use social media to interact. Twitter has also emerged as a powerful website for seeking news, as it is the most popular social media site with many journalists. The first project focused on Facebook and overlooked other sites that are also important social media platforms.
My planned delivery method will be using PowerPoint presentations to discuss the impact of social media on people’s identities. I have chosen this method because it will allow me to discuss important concepts that may be unclearly conveyed using other modes of presentations. PowerPoint presentations are active and they will allow me to interact with my audience effectively. The PowerPoint presentation will also enable me to present charts and graphs that illustrate the use of social media across different age groups. I consider video an ineffective method of presenting the topic because it does not give the audience ample time to analyze various concepts or understand the meaning of graphs and charts.
My purpose for the project will be to illustrate the impact of social media on people’s identities. I will analyze how people define themselves and how they use the social media. However, my intention will be to base my presentation and arguments on recent statistical data relevant to the topic. I will also seek to evaluate how individuals of different age groups use various social media websites. Although Facebook remains popular among many social media users, I believe that other websites such as Twitter and WhatsApp are important to the presentation. My audience for the presentation will be my instructor and fellow students. My role will be collecting statistical data from various sources and preparing the presentation. My instructor’s role will be will be to evaluate my project and presentations.

Use of Specialized Language in Communication

The expectation of a person pursuing a profession in healthcare is that the mode of communication in class should reflect the reality in the medical field. In particular, scholars should embrace the use of specialized language in their communication in order to minimize confusion that arises due to miscommunication within healthcare facilities. Subsequently, the description of terms such as winning and shortness of breath should be slightly different from the use of similar terms in an informal context.
In addition to communication, doctors need to learn how to operate equipment such as the stethoscope for enhancing coordination with patients. The knowledge of people’s belief system and the knowledge of some medical terms is equally necessary when seeking to establish a cordial relationship amongst themselves.
While undertaking duties, doctors ought to share information about the medical history of a patient as suggested in the articles. The doctors should also share information about the history of a patient’s condition while administering treatment. The scholars should also use formal language in advancing their communication to ease information flow with other practitioners.
The common situation in a healthcare facility is the lack of understanding between the patient and the doctor due to the use of different approaches to communication. Amongst doctors, the common situation is the professionals to use formal language in their conversation. The audiences for the writers of the article are practitioners in the medical field.
Klass uses the specialized terms in the description of certain medical conditions that appears alien to many. For instance, she uses C.T. D in the describing the anomaly of the pancreas. As noted, the initials abbreviate circling the drain. Klass uses the term because she does not want to threaten the patient about his condition. She also understands that using the term will ease communication with other professionals. Another significance of using the technique is that it limits confusion in dissemination of critical information to patients.
In the communication between doctors and patients, there exists a possibility of each party-misinterpreting messages. The variation emanates from the difference in the mode of communication in the medical field as well as the approach to training. As noted in the article, the difference manifests whenever mothers and doctors communicate. However, as argued out in the reading, the doctors are aware of the existence of such inevitabilities. Therefore, when communicating with patients, doctors ought to use simple language when disseminating information. As a result, the process will ease coordination during treatment and administration of drugs to patients.
An example of miscommunication is the use of abbreviations such as C.P., S.O.B., N/ V’ in the description of patient’s condition as either free from chest pain, limitation of breath or experiencing nausea. As noted in the two readings, the manner in which communication reaches the patients influences the reaction of the person. For that reason, it is advisable to train professionals in the health care sector in good communication skills. During the process, the trainers ought to factor in the changing needs of patients. Engaging in formal communication is the ideal way of maintaining professionalism in the profession.

CHILD MORTALITY IN SAUDI ARABIA (POISONING).

CHILD MORTALITY IN SAUDI ARABIA (POISONING)
Many causes of child mortality are preventable and curable. The responsibility for the well-being of an infant, particularly below the age of five, lies solely with the parent. Carelessness, irresponsibility, and negligence account for over 90 percent of child accidents, poisoning, and deaths at home. The responsibility and duty of a child’s care lie fully with the mother who is the custodian of the child irrespective of whether the child has a nanny or not. The majority of accidents that occur at home are due to misplaced priorities by the mother or parent or the nanny. However, the nanny is an individual without full responsibility for a child as young as below five years. Two solutions have been suggested to curb the issue. The first one is for drug and food authorities to make a conference that seeks to create awareness concerning the issue. The second one suggests taking action on guardians where police sue parents for negligence. This paper argues that the former is better than the latter considering that creating awareness allows parents to prevent such accidents while the latter only punishes without imparting knowledge on how to avoid such issues. Primarily, the latter only punishes after an accident occurs, which means it does nothing to prevent it from occurring.
The solution to sue parents instills fear and probes for increased care and attention to the young ones. This can cause parents and other responsible parties to increase their efforts in caring for children. This solution recognizes that the buck stops with the parent in cases of poisoning or death. Mortality and poisoning are preventable occurrences at home. It all calls upon the responsible individual to take responsibility and exercise the role appropriately. This

How does the modern anti-hero compare and contrast to earlier examples, from Greece or the medieval/early modern periods?

FAUST’S TRAGEDY
Who is the antihero of Faust: Faust or Mephistopheles? Alternatively, would you select another character for that role? Defend your answer with specific reasons and references to the text. Additionally, how does the modern anti-hero compare and contrast to earlier examples, from Greece or the medieval/early modern periods?
Faust plays the character of an antihero. His actions depicts a character unsure of himself and aspires to change to be someone else. In the text, Faust describes himself as miserable, and despairing, and imprisoned. As the main character of the play, Faust attempts to cut a deal with the devil in order acquire magical powers to help him rise above his miserable state. He continues and describes his condition with such pity as having ‘sunk into a depth of wretchedness like this…’.On the other hand, Faust his actions depict an evil minded fellow for instance in the part he fights and kills Gretchen’s brother. He tries to assist Gretchen from prison showing a direct opposite of character again.
Q2
Gretchen is the stock character of the virtuous woman seduced: “the sinless sinner.” What is your reaction to the Gretchen/Faust love affair and its aftermath? To what extent does the play offer hope for Gretchen? Why is she redeemed?
What saves her is that even in her madness (which has been intensified in jail–horrible, dirty, confined conditions during that time) she still seeks redemption. It is crucial here that she reject Faust’s offer to leave and ask God to save her–that is why she is redeemed in that moment!
Q3
Goethe did not intend to send Faust to hell at all. Why not? Why is Faust redeemed? Explain whether or not you would send Faust to hell for his behavior. Take into account both God’s agreement with Mephistopheles and Faust’s bargain with Mephistopheles. Are the terms of the agreement(s) Met or broken?
Faust fails to go to hell because of his great attempt to find redemption and a change of heart. He has tried to seek out for further knowledge and rise above the common know how of typical men. With this he is given the opportunity he so yearns for to transcend to the world of the living. His attempt to confront questions between the good and the bad, evil and righteous and sexuality and morality earns him the benefit of doubt to for a chance in heaven. Faust ought to go to hell. Despite his yearning for knowledge, his great obsession at questioning good and bad is in direct contrast with his actions. He portrays a pretender who does one thing different from what he says. The terms were, he learns the difference between the good and the bad on his own and not try to blackmail his way. The terms come to fulfillment at the end of the episode.

Use of Specialized Language in Communication.

Use of Specialized Language in Communication
For the years, I have been working at the facility; the organization has accomplished several objectives hence the reason I would like to congratulate all for your efforts in promoting the well-being of patients. However, in order to enhance excellence in operations, it is important to acknowledge that communication is integral in the success of the facility. As such, the administration would like to place emphasis on the use of specialized language.
Based on my thinking, the approach i.s commendable because adoption of the style presents benefits that include ease of coordination among professionals in healthcare facilities. Patients can also find fewer challenges while expressing their concerns to doctors and treatment of conditions overlooked in the past. The fourth reason for the emphasis is the ease of adjustment to changes in the profession. Lastly, facilities will save resources lost due to confusion in treatment of patients. For that reason, I would urge all of you to embrace the communication approach for the benefit of the facility.
