Preamble:
This coursework provides the course participants of NM209 with the opportunity to improve and practically apply their knowledge of the Maxsurf Modeller and Maxsurf Stability Naval Architectural software. An electronic Maxsurf Modeller design file of a basis (parent) bulk carrier is provided with this assignment that should be modified in accordance with the re-sizing requirements laid out in Appendix A. The derived (new) hullform should then be analysed in Maxsurf Stability after modelling the internal tank arrangements and cargo holds. The sizes of these tanks should be calculated using appropriate proportions (length, beam or depth ratios) of the new and basis ships. The sizes and arrangements of the parent ship tanks and cargo holds are given in the General Arrangement Drawing.

Objectives:
The objectives of this course work are:
1. Designing a bulk carrier by modifying the parent ship using Maxsurf Modeller
2. Modelling the tank arrangements and cargo holds using a combination of
Maxsurf Modeller and Maxsurf Stability
3. Calculating the ballast tank capacities of the modified hullform
4. Calculating the hold capacities for carrying grain (specific gravity = 0.8)
5. Calculating hydrostatic curves for both the Ballast and Grain Loadcases
6. Verifying that the design trim of the derived hullform is within the specified
constraints for the two load cases
7. Preparation of the lines plan and the internal tank arrangement (profile,
weather & tank deck and midship section view) of new ship, using AutoCAD

BACKGROUND

The Citys Water Utility Division is soliciting proposals from qualified consultants to design a new Booster Pump Station to push the discharge water from the reservoirs into the distribution system and maintain desired pressure in the system. The project includes preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specifications, special provisions, cost estimate, bid documents, and design support services during the construction of said project.

The City intends to reduce the age of potable water in four (4) existing interconnected 3,000,000 gallon steel tank storage reservoirs located at the Citys facility along Wilmington Avenue by cycling the water everyday 7 days (if possible based on demand). The Citys goal is to balance the need to maintain minimize water age through cycling of the water in the reservoirs and related water quality concerns, while also upgrading its ability to boost water into the distribution system to maintain adequate pressure to maintain fire flow requirements during emergencies.

Ability to analyze the situation described in the case by drawing on concepts and theories discussed in the module.

The main article is called failure at entry by David N. Berg. Apart from using the article to write this report you should
Answer the question by referring to the following issues and relevant readings:
The nature of consulting, the role of consultants as change agents and the stages of a consulting assignment (weeks 5 and 6 readings + guest speaker talk)
Power dynamics and stakeholders, and organizational politics / political behaviours (week 3)
Persuasion principles that were used / could have been used more effectively (week 4)

I will attach all the information on week 3/4/5/6 for you

Formatting and presentation of the paper. Font: Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri, size 12, line spacing 1.5. Insert page numbers and use paragraphs and/or sub-headings to structure your analysis.

Correct grasp of factual details from the case study. Your analysis needs to demonstrate familiarity with the factual details of the case (e.g. events, characters, etc). Please be specific and succinct in referring to factual evidence from the case. At the same time, make sure you dont spend too much time / space simply summarizing the case study, to the expense of the actual case analysis.

Ability to analyze the situation described in the case by drawing on concepts and theories discussed in the module. Your analysis needs to be specific and substantiated avoid vague statements (e.g. Berg failed to engage relevant stakeholders versus Berg failed to engage X stakeholder in Y situation; this person is important because a, b, c) and explain why you drew certain inferences about the situation presented in the case.
You must draw on relevant literature in order to analyze the case and make recommendations. The lectures and the weekly readings will provide the core theoretical frameworks you should be referring to, in order to make sense of the situation presented. You are free to draw on further relevant readings.
You should also consider carefully selecting a set of concepts and issues to focus on, as you will not be able to cover exhaustively within the word limit every relevant aspect of consulting (weeks 5&6), power and politics (week 3) or persuasion skills (week 4).
A case study is not an essay, so you are not expected to discuss theories at length or in isolation however, it is appropriate and necessary to sometimes provide definitions of key concepts, or explain certain taxonomies or theoretical perspectives in order to support your analysis. Such theoretical discussions should be clear, supported by academic references, succinct and ultimately linked to your analysis of the case facts and to your recommendations.

Accurate referencing style: in-text referencing (including page numbers when necessary), and Harvard referencing style for the bibliography/reference list. There is no ideal number of sources you should use, although I would expect your analysis to draw on a minimum of 5 readings (given the issues you are meant to discuss).

Decide where you stand on your topic and WHY.

Pick a controversial ethical topic: Animal Rights and Animals Welfare.
Decide where you stand on your topic and WHY. Pick which ethical approach helps justify your belief on the topic.
You MUST do research on the topic and present that research. A good topic of choice will feature at least two reputable sources for each side (a total of four references). Unbiased articles and academic studies are best. Present both sides of the issue fairly, then justify your viewpoint. End with at least two ethical discussion questions about the topic for the class to discuss. Think about these! They must be ethically challenging and tough.
Make sure that in your paper you present the facts and opinions of both sides fairly. Cite the research you used, including quotations.
Present your own opinion on the controversy. You must explain WHY you believe what you do. Also, tie your opinion to one of the ethical approaches we’ve studied, and explain WHY that is the right approach. (Ex. “Utilitarianism. The right approach offers the greatest good for the greatest number.”).

Discuss and analyze how family and community resources can be used to boost learning, including distributed leadership; use of community agencies (for example, health agencies and social service organizations).
