Preamble:
This coursework provides the course participants of NM209 with the opportunity to improve and practically apply their knowledge of the Maxsurf Modeller and Maxsurf Stability Naval Architectural software. An electronic Maxsurf Modeller design file of a basis (parent) bulk carrier is provided with this assignment that should be modified in accordance with the re-sizing requirements laid out in Appendix A. The derived (new) hullform should then be analysed in Maxsurf Stability after modelling the internal tank arrangements and cargo holds. The sizes of these tanks should be calculated using appropriate proportions (length, beam or depth ratios) of the new and basis ships. The sizes and arrangements of the parent ship tanks and cargo holds are given in the General Arrangement Drawing.

Objectives:
The objectives of this course work are:
1. Designing a bulk carrier by modifying the parent ship using Maxsurf Modeller
2. Modelling the tank arrangements and cargo holds using a combination of
Maxsurf Modeller and Maxsurf Stability
3. Calculating the ballast tank capacities of the modified hullform
4. Calculating the hold capacities for carrying grain (specific gravity = 0.8)
5. Calculating hydrostatic curves for both the Ballast and Grain Loadcases
6. Verifying that the design trim of the derived hullform is within the specified
constraints for the two load cases
7. Preparation of the lines plan and the internal tank arrangement (profile,
weather & tank deck and midship section view) of new ship, using AutoCAD
