Statement of Purpose: Nanyang Technological University
The postgraduate finance program from Nanyang Technological University is an ideal fit for my ambitions because of the overall academic excellence, focus on corporate finance and the general industry-oriented environment provided by the institution. Nanyang Technological University provides an opportunity for exposure to the financial services industry and this will assist me in applying my theoretical knowledge in finance to the real corporate world. I therefore plan to capitalize on the strengths possessed by the university as they relate to my interests.
I have gained adequate knowledge in my undergraduate finance course as well as experience in the financial services industry. However, to actualize my career goals, I need to learn and gain exposure to the current developments in the industry both at a domestic and international scope. There has been an increase in technological developments and applications in the financial sector over the last decade. Development in techniques and applications in the financial market such as derivatives has had both positive and negative impacts on the industry and the global economy. However, the adverse impacts that a burst in the real estate bubble in the United States, which motioned series of events that led to the global financial crises is definitely a subject of great interest. Therefore, a Master’s Degree in Finance from Nanyang Technological University will provide a theoretical understanding, a deep integration of practical approaches to emerging issues, and research skills to facilitate my development of expertise in core areas of financial operations in a global perspective. Of great interest is the environment provided by the University, which allows a learner to probe specific problem areas such as the application of quantitative methods in analyzing and explaining various issues affecting the financial industry. Being able to subject various issues in financial industry to quantitative analysis is valuable to an expert in financial matters. Therefore, an opportunity to study at your institution will be a great boost to my interests in Corporate Finance, Capital and Derivatives Market, International Finance, and Foreign Exchange Markets.
I want to boost my existing skills with a degree in MSc in Finance from Nanyang Technological University. I am aware of the vast experience and exposure the university has in the financial field. Having an opportunity to further my education and expertise in finance will enable me buffer my foundation in principles and practice of finance, with exposure to the latest tools and techniques that can be applied to boost my analytical skills and improve financial decision-making. Besides, the institution will enable me to develop global capabilities to work anywhere in the world because of the institution’s culture of unique combination of global content and case studies. The diverse student community and faculty body as well as access to materials from global financial companies will provide an all-round experience for me. Therefore, learning at the institution will provide an absolute diverse environment, characteristic of working in a culturally diverse environment.
In the long-run, the knowledge and experience gained from learning at the university will enable me to assist in various financial sectors, especially in a developing country. I will be able to assist the government and financial institutions in designing, implementing and monitoring financial policies, initiatives and consult with other financial stakeholders to gain wider industry perspectives. Therefore, gaining knowledge in financial investments especially in derivative markets will enable me to offer advisory services in countries which are still developing and do not have established derivative markets.
