Presentation

This is a presentation where i need to compare the article with the actual situation. I’ll attach the article and the instructions for a better result. Also at the end i need two discussion questions for the class in relation to the presentation.

At least six (6) relevant secondary references (journal articles, newspapers, magazines etc.). Please note, at least four (4) of the sources must be academic journal articles. Re-stating the content of the textbook, lecture material or the textbook chapters is unacceptable. Students need to demonstrate that they can read and extract useful information from academic papers.

The Letter to the Editor

In this paper you will write “The Letter to the Editor.” you’ll want your letter to be focused on a current problem faced by your community (or a problem faced by a group to which you belong). However, you won’t just be stating the problem. In this letter, you will also want to propose a solution ( the best solution )to the problem. You will want to be as specific as possible ( you will want to write about this solution, how it affects the problem, how it would solve it, who did try it and so on, be as specific as possible ). Choose a topic you care about, something you’re invested in. you may want to have a powerful letter that you could actually submit to your local newspaper. List the newspaper to which you would be sending this to at the top of your paper (any US newspaper, just an example). Begin the letter with: “Dear Editor,” Throughout the paper, be as specific as you possibly can in terms of: 1.) Defining/describing the problem and who it affects 2.) Describing your solution 3.) Defending your solution as the best means of dealing with this problem (support your solution with outside sources and quotations) As you’re writing this letter, also do keep in mind your audience. IMPORTANT NOTE: Papers on the following topics will not be accepted: * abortion * capital punishment * euthanasia

Individually researched

The paper should be written in an essay style and not like a business report. You may use frameworks or models in diagram form. Headings may be used, but should not be numbered. It is designed to enable you to explore in some depth an aspect of Human Resource Management, think about the issues and challenges involved and become familiar with key concepts, theories and models.

You may select one of the following topics:

1. Select an organisation and then critically analyse its HRM strategies. What role does the global and the national economy play in Strategic Human Resource Management?

2. HR functions should be devolved to either line managers or external service providers, leaving internal HR professionals to focus on the organisation’s cultural, structural, and change management issues. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this statement.

3. Do HR professionals represent the interest of management, workers or both? Discuss this potential conflict of interest. Use examples of Codes of Conduct, or similar mission statements from industry, to illustrate your argument.

4. What recruitment and selection approach should be adopted in order to achieve the ‘best practice’ of HRM within an organisation? Discussing the close links between this function and human resource planning, work analysis, job design, and human resource development (using examples).

Please keep a secure copy of your work until the final result for the Course is given.

Assessment Criteria for Individual Paper

British Manufacturing management

During the 1980s and early 1990s recessions, British manufacturing management restored profitability, sacked employees, and transformed productivity. To what extent does the British experience differ when compared against the major competitors?

Theoretical analysis of the movie “Thirteen” character Tracy

Theoretical analysis of the Tracy’s ( from the movie Thirteen) behavior, drawing on those theories that you think are most helpful in understanding this person and her situation from a social work perspective. Social work takes a bio-psycho-social, person-in-environment approach to understanding human behavior, think about the following questions as you develop this section of the paper:
• What are the key systems in the character’s life and how have they influenced his/her behavior? How well does the person “fit” within his/her environment?
• Which stage-based theory(ies) of development offer the most insight into the character’s behavior?
• To what extent is the character’s behavior environmentally conditioned? How might the character’s cognitive processing of his/her experiences help to explain the behavior he/she exhibits?
• How may the social and cultural context of the main character’s family and larger social environment affect the person’s behavior?

Incorporating at least one(1) theory from each of the four (4) theoretical modules:
1. Systems and Ecological Theory: Social Systems Theory, Family Systems, Ecological Perspective, Family Resilience
2. Psychodynamic Theories: Psychoanalytic Theory, Ego Psychology, Object Relations Theory, Attachment Theory
3. Learning Theories: Cognitive Development, Moral Development, Behavior Theories, Social Cognitive (Social Learning) Theory
4. Alternative Theories: Empowerment Theory, Strengths Perspective, Conflict Theory, Critical Race Theory

Write a critique of the theories you chose to apply to the movie character, discussing the social construction, strengths and limitations of the theoretical concepts in terms of explaining that person’s behavior.

HR Strategy

HR Strategy,

This assignment is divided into two parts and both parts should be completed.

Part 1

1.1 Identify the key factors, work practices and challenges that Innocent should consider if it is to sustain competitive advantage. What are the implications for HR strategy at Innocent? (50%) ?1000words?

1.2 What do you understand by the term ‘High Performance Work Practices’ (also called high performance work systems or high impact work systems)? What evidence is there in the Innocent case study to suggest that HPWP is a useful concept that helps organisations to maximise the contribution of their employees and thus contribute to the competitive advantage of the organisation? Use at least one model of HPWP to support your answer. (50%) (1000words)

Part 2

Discuss the term ‘talent management’ and explain how talent management fits with strategic HRM. Identify and analyse the issues (eg., practical, personal, ethical) that could arise from the implementation and operation of a talent management programme in an organization. (100%) (2000words)

• An equal weighting (50%-50%) of marks is given to each part and each part should be no more than 2000 words, excluding references. Please do not exceed 4000 words in total (excluding references).
• For Part 1, although you will need to describe events and situations within the case study there should be a strong element of critical analysis and evaluation of the associated academic literature. The literature should cover a good range of thinking and contributions.
• You are encouraged to get new information on the case study company to support your assignment.
• For Part 2, you are encouraged to consider how national cultures could influence the way organizations might approach talent management.
• Make sure that you reference correctly and include a list of references using the Harvard system.

Financial Polynomials

70. (9×3+3×2-15x)/(3x) pg. 311

90. Compounded semiannually. P dollars is invested at annual
interest rate r for 1 year. If the interest is compounded
semiannually, then the polynomial P(1+r/2)^2
represents the
value of the investment after 1 year. Rewrite this expression
without parentheses. Evaluate the polynomial if
P $200 and r 10%.

Read the following instructions in order to complete this assignment, and review the example of how to complete the math required for this assignment:

Solve problem 90 on page 304 of Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. Be sure that you show all steps of the squaring of the binomial and multiplication along with any simplification which might be required.

Evaluate the polynomial resulting from step 1 using:

P = $200 and r = 10%, and also with

P = $5670 and r = 3.5%

Colmplete problem 70 on page 311 of Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. Show all steps of the division.

Write a two to three page paper that is formatted in APA style and according to the Math Writing Guide. Format your math work as shown in the Instructor Guidance and be concise in your reasoning. In the body of your essay, please make sure to include:

Your solution to the above problems, making sure to include all mathematical work and a discussion of how and why this is applicable to your everyday life.

Plan the logic necessary to complete the problem before you begin writing.

Use the underline feature with single spacing to set up the division(s), and use the “strikethrough” font to show the canceling factors. Can you think of another way this division could be approached and worked out? If yes, briefly describe the method.

Incorporate the following five math vocabulary words into your discussion. Use bold font to emphasize the words in your writing (Do not write definitions for the words; use them appropriately in sentences describing your math work.):

Making Sense of Organisation

Making Sense of Organisations – Individual Module Assignment

Assignment Brief and Purpose

“In the past man has been first. In the future the System will be first”.

Attributed to Frederick Taylor at the beginning of the 20th century and quoted in
The One Best Way: Frederick Winslow Taylor and the Enigma of Efficiency(1997) London: Little Brown

This quotation suggests that Classical management theorists viewed the relationship between people and organisations as one in which people serve organisations not the other way round.

This assignment requires you to address the following question in the form of an essay;

To what extent are people subordinated to systems and organisations in the 21st century?

Given that organisations are an inescapable part or all our lives it becomes important that we develop an understanding of what they are and how they work (or do not work). The lecture programme has emphasized the idea that organisations are not a single entity and that making sense of them requires us to examine them through a variety of theoretical perspectives as well as our own perceptual lens. This postmodern understanding argues that organisations are socially constructed phenomena, soquestions like;‘what the organisation is’, ‘why it is there’ and ‘how it works (or doesn’t)’ and ‘why’, should be addressed from these different, but interrelated theoretical constructs.

The various perspectives offered during the lectures can all be employed to help you make sense of organisations. These may include the following but you are not confined to these;

Historical
Sociological
Rational technical
Political
Psychological
Cultural (organisational and national)
Symbolic

An additional implication of the postmodern understanding is that the person making sense, (you), must acknowledge their own influence on the sense making process, that is, you are also involved in socially constructing the organisation even as an analyst, and are not examining it from a distance. This will involve you in a consideration of your own background and life experience. You are encouraged to offer insights of your own, and given that we are understanding organisations as any community of people, large or small and with whatever purpose, you should use your own experience. This may include any organisations of which you have experience, for example; part time or full time work, schools and other educational establishments, leisure time organisations, political organisations.

Finally, you are also required to use examples from contemporary organisations to support and illustrate your points. These might come from your reading of contemporary events, from news sources or television documentaries.

Summary

To summarise, you are required to write an essay which explores the notion of organisation using a variety of theoretical perspectives and supported by examples from your own experience as well as from your reading of academic work and from contemporary organisations. This will require you to use the lecture material, books and articles, contemporary news sources and your own experience. The emphasis is on writing a persuasive essay which builds a case for a particular point of view and which is drawn together in the conclusion. Your account should be analytical and critically informed, and not simply a description of an organisation.
You must use the Harvard referencing system and reference all authors and dates referred to in the text.
