Current Events and U.S. Diplomacy

This paper will be a revised and expanded version of the first research paper. Based on your instructor’s feedback, you will first revise the first paper.
Write three-to-four (3-4) new pages that address the following:
1. Define presidential doctrine and summarize the regional or global events during the Cold War leading up to the formation of the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1.
2. Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between the country you selected and the U.S. before the presidential doctrine was announced.
3. Describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and the country you selected in section (2) above.
4. Describe the effect that the presidential doctrine has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.
5. Assess whether or not the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1 doctrine had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the country you selected in section (2) above since the doctrine was first announced.
6. Use at least four (4) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
To help you understand this assignment further, the following description and examples may be useful.
Step 1: Define doctrine and identify why a president would want to announce one.
A doctrine is an ideological platform that a president uses to advance a policy towards a country or region in order to accomplish foreign policy goals for the United States, so you will need to expand on this theme.
Refer back to Assignment 1, and build on whatever doctrine you wrote about then. Say, for example, you selected the Truman Doctrine. Therefore, this is the only thing you will write about in Assignment 2 step 1.
Step 2: Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between it and the U.S.
Before the presidential doctrine was announced. In the case of Truman, you would pick either the Soviet Union, Greece, or Iran, since all three were affected by his doctrine. If you are writing about the Eisenhower Doctrine, you would choose Lebanon or Egypt; if you wrote about the Kennedy Doctrine, you would have write about Cuba or Vietnam; if your wrote about the Nixon Doctrine, you would choose either Vietnam, Saudi Arabia or Iran; if you chose Carter, you would select either Iran or Afghanistan; and if you wrote about the Reagan Doctrine, you would select Nicaragua, Angola, Russia or Afghanistan (although there were several others).
Step 3: Describe what effect the presidential doctrine you chose has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.
That is, how did the doctrine change the status quo regionally or globally after it was announced by the U.S.? What happened in Western Europe after the Truman Doctrine was announced? What happened in the Middle East after the Eisenhower Doctrine was announced? What happened with Cuba or Vietnam after Kennedy offered up his doctrine of flexible response? What happened in Southeast Asia or the Persian Gulf after the Nixon Doctrine went in effect? What happened in the Middle East after the Carter Doctrine was announced? What happened in Central America or Africa or the Middle East after Reagan announced his doctrine?

Step 4: Refer back to the country you selected in step two and describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and that country.
How has the relationship changed between the U.S. and that country since the doctrine was announced?
Step 5: Evaluate whether or not the presidential doctrine had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the one country you selected in section (2) above since the doctrine was first announced.

Dante Alighieri’s Inferno

Identifying Cultural Values: Modern readers often find some of the crime “rankings” (how far down a particular sin places an individual in Hell) in The Inferno to be puzzling. Discuss one level of Hell that caught your eye as you read through: does the punishment/placement of this particular sin seem problematic to you? Why or why not? What do you think we can learn about the cultural values of medieval Italy from this level of Hell?

Here is the first and second part

A problem Exists
In the society we live, we face a myriad of challenges and problems. Many of the
problems are as result of human activities. Global warming is a major problem that puts
the future generation at risk and therefore requires a solution.
Global warming is one of the major problems that face the world today. This
problem has an effect on climate as it causes climate change that threatens the survival of
the living organisms (Milfont, 2012). The major cause of this problem is the human
activities and it dates back many years when the industrial affluent were emitted in the air
without any filtration. Nowadays, every individual is responsible for global warming and
it is upon every individual to take the responsibility to solve this problem.
Global warming is one of the environmental problems that have a negative
impact on the life of the people across the world. There are challenges in fighting this
problem. One of the challenges is that many countries have not put in place measures to
control environmental pollution and degradation. The laws to protect the environment are
flouted allowing industries to emit toxic substances in the environment (Lerner, Lerner &
Wilmoth, 2006). Another challenge is that people are not taking individual
responsibilities to protect and enhance their environment. This problem, however can be
eliminated if appropriate measures are taken. One of the measures to solve the problem is
for the respectful governments in the world to put in place laws that will mandate people
not to pollute the environment. Industries should be regulated and those that go against
the laws persecuted (Milfont, 2012). Awareness should be increased to inform people on
the best ways to manage their environment. People themselves should take
responsibilities by always taking measures that enhances the environment.

Deforestation is yet another environmental problem that threatens the survival of
living things and the future lives of the living organisms (Lerner, Lerner & Wilmoth,
2006). Cutting down of trees is a challenge that needs to be solved amicably. As the
demand for tree goes up as a result of the increase in population and needs of households,
the forest cover is under threat. The challenge that faces this problem is lack of law
enforcement. The solution to this problem is to enforce the law and ensure that forest
covers are protected. The society should also be educated on the importance of planting
trees. For example a policy such as cut one and plant three need to be adopted and
enforced to ensure that the forests are not destroyed completely as they act as water
catchments areas.
The third problem that requires a solution is exploitation and misappropriation of
the available e resources. The rate of consumption of the resources at our disposal is at a
high rate. Many people are not able to utilize the resources well and this poses a risk of
extinction. For instance, resources such as water, minerals and even living organisms
such as fish face a threat. This is an economic as well as an environmental problem.
Continued exploitation of these natural resources affects the environment as the same
face depletion. The solution to this problem is to encourage reuse and recycling of the
resources to ensure that they do not face extinction. The economic problem attributable to
this is that, the rate of consumption increases and the demand of the products increases
hence placing a lot of pressure on them. Therefore, there is a need for the people to
regulate their consumption and to balance the rate of consumption to the economic
benefits.

Solution and Advantages
Environmental degradation is increasingly becoming an issue of focus in the
global economy and politics as well as in the lives of people. Deterioration of the
environment has greatly been attributed to human activity resulting to pollution,
deforestation, and misuse of natural resources (Daily et al, 2010). The problems caused
by environmental deterioration, such as desertification and global warming affect the
world as a whole and, therefore, require global solution to reinforce individual’s efforts.
Many of these problems in the environment have been caused by lack of commitment to
implement existing polices by governments, outdated policies, and ineffective decision
making (Dilchert et al, 2012). By continuing with uncontrolled human activity we are
jeopardizing our common future. It is not enough that everyone resonates to the fact that
we are exposed to the greatest threat facing our generation, much more need to be
urgently done to develop viable solutions to save the world.
Many of the environmental problems result from lack of commitment to
implement existing polices by governments, ineffective decision making processes, and
outdated policies (James, 2013). The most viable solution to the problem of
environmental deterioration is through a more committed society to sustainability and
conservation initiates. Apparently, more sustainable society will to a great extent depend
on commitments on the part of governments, drafting of new public polices as well as
innovative decision making processes and agencies that supports and are committed to
conservation and sustainability (Dilchert et al, 2012). Through commitments,
governments will be able to come up with effective mechanisms that will address the
issues of global warming, deforestation, and misuse of natural resources. There is a need

for more practical policies that clearly guides human activity in relation to exploitation of
natural resources, measures required in place before any industrial activity, and more
severe repercussions for perpetrators.
In addition, it is important that strong agencies be put in place or efforts to
empower the already existing ones with more committed personnel and procedure for
policy administration and implementation (Dilchert et al, 2012). Furthermore, strong
institutions without proper enforcement authority and procedures will only act to derail
the sustainability efforts. Sustainability efforts at individual levels will also go a long way
in reinforcing the overall process. This can be achieved through capacity building
initiatives that focus on simple activities such as tree planting programs and conservation
campaigns for households on reuse and recycling (James, 2013). In a nutshell, what is
required to address the problem of environmental degradation is commitment by
governments, agencies, households, and individuals to sustainability and conservation.
Sustainability and conservation through recycling and reuse initiatives will reduce
the effects of such human activities as deforestation, waste disposal, and the overall
resource exploitation (James, 2013). Apparently, when recycling forms part of our daily
lives, we commit to the use of old materials to produce new things instead of raw
materials. Such initiatives in turn help in conservation of resources, energy, and
prevention of pollution. Secondary-use materials for a period of one year would be
equivalent to preventing about 5 million tones emissions of greenhouse gases, saving 93
gigajoules of energy, and saving almost 61,000 megalitres of water (Dilchert et al, 2012).
Substituting raw materials with secondary-use materials would have numerous

Marketing Report

In Assignment 1, you with others in your group developed a situation analysis for a selected company culminating in a SWOT analysis. This is the current situation that company is in from a marketing perspective.

You need to illustrate the links between the various elements of the marketing plan during this reflection. Additionally, conclude by commenting on the role of the marketing plan in terms of how you see it will assist this company, and how it will be used both tactically and strategically.
You must incorporate academic literature to support/justify your discussion. Unsubstantiated statements will not provide credibility to your discussion.
