In her article From Concept to Object: The Artistic Practice of Drawing, Lynn Gumpert briefly discusses the major role of drawing within Conceptual Art during the 1960s and 70s (51). Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings are provided as an example where the drawings are created by installers based on instructions by the artist. Gumpert quotes Rebecca Lee’s statement on LeWitt’s intentions, “LeWitt challenges one of society’s most deeply held beliefs about drawing – that it must be a personalized, unique expression of the artist’s own hand”(52). What becomes the relationship of the drawing to the original work, which are the instructions? Is the drawing part of the artwork? Does the drawing need to be present with the instructions? Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) refers to those medical substances and practices that are not the part of standard care, which is usually provided by medical doctors and other related health-care professionals such as physical therapists and nurses. Complementary medicine is often used along with other standard medical treatment strategies as, for example, acupuncture is an alternative medicine practice and it can be used in relieving the patients of cancer from the side effects of cancer therapy.

Sample Summary:
In his essay “A Reunion With Boredom,” Charles Simic argues that our unhealthy dependence on technology has disconnected us from the healthy benefits of being bored. This realization comes to him during a several-day power outage as a result of Hurricane Irene, when Simic was left without access to any technological devices. What strikes the author most is the fact that we seek constantly to be occupied and thus have lost touch with the personal reflection that comes from experiencing quieter moments. Simic concludes from all this that it is our devices that control us rather than the other way around.
