Explain relevant concepts, theories and applications derived from course materials

APA does not permit the use of the word introduction as a level heading (APA, 2009, Rule 3.03 p. 63) In fact, the opening does not even carry a heading, except for a restatement of the paper’s title. One is assumed by its placement at the beginning. Your opening should provide specific and meaningful information relevant to the business issue of the case. Appropriate in-text citation must be provided. The executive summary should be analytical in nature encompassing a forward thinking view.
Synopsis of the Case
The content of the synopsis should present relevant background facts about the case under examination. The information provided should be supported by APA in-text citation. Provide only facts related to the business aspects of the case. Discussion of the background should be minimal (i.e., a paragraph, two at most), but still analytical.
Relevant Factual Information about the Problem or Decision the Organization Faced
State the precise problem or decision the organization faced. The section should include information that addressed the business issue under examination. This section should be no longer than a single paragraph.
Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Applications Derived from Course Materials
This section should be the bulk of your paper. Analysis of the business problem or decision in light of the course concepts must be presented, as well as the business lesson another organization could learn from this situation. Besides citation to the text, learners must conduct research in the University library related to the top. Citing the textbook only is not enough to demonstrate you understand and can apply the course objectives. Here is where comparative and contrasting positions should be considered and examples and illustrations provided.
Recommendations
Provide logical recommendations to address the business lesson identified above. The recommendations need not to be specific to the organization examined, but should consider how other organizations, if similarly situated, could lessen the impact of the problem or decision identified. Recall, that the organization under examination has already moved pasted this problem so any recommendations made, at this point, are fruitless. The focus of this section should be on what other companies should be aware of to address similar problems or decisions. Citation to the textbook alone is insufficient for analysis in this section. Learners should conduct research in the University’s library to support their positions. Depth of scholarship is not demonstrated by providing personal opinions alone, but by using examples, analogies, comparison and illustrations from the academic literature. Not only does this synthesize the material to assist the reader’s understanding, it is an effective way to present the academic sources and extend the discussion of your ideas. This section should be a paragraph or two.
Alternative Recommendations
This section is not a continuation of the prior. Provide suggestions for how to avoid the problem or decision the examined organization faced. Analysis here should be may be forward- thinking, predictive or, most likely, preventative in nature but tied to the thesis statement. Again, opinion is insufficient to provide the required academic analysis. Sources, other than the text, must be provided to sustain the statements made. This section should be a paragraph, at most.
Conclusion
End the assignment with a summary of the important points made in the document. No new information may be presented. Writing a conclusion can be done by rewording the opening or reformulation the topic sentences of each paragraph to make a summary for the reader. This section should be a paragraph, at most.

Describe what are the key benefits of using performance measurement as part of the program evaluation process?

Performance measurement is used for reporting and monitoring program effectiveness, accomplishments, and/or goal progress. To be measured, a program must have well-defined objectives or a discernible purpose. There are three levels of activity that can be measured through program measurement:
• Process: Activities that have been conducted
• Outputs: Services that have been delivered
• Outcomes: Results of both the activities and services
Program evaluations are holistic and systematic studies that are conducted on a regular basis to determine on a whole how a program is working and to discover ways in which the program can be improved upon. These evaluations are most often a combination of both quantitative and qualitative methods and fall under one of the following categories:
• Process evaluation evaluates the degree that the program is operating as expected.
• Outcome evaluation evaluates the degree that the program has met its outcome-oriented goals.
• Impact evaluation is a specific type of outcome evaluation that determines the overall impact of the program by comparing the expected outcomes in the absence of the program with actual program outcomes.
Cost–benefit and cost-effectiveness evaluations evaluate the program outcomes with the costs to produce those outcomes.
This module taught you that performance measurement has become a very important aspect of the program evaluation process as the stakeholders in the agency or program will want to see evidence that the outcomes are being met and, if not, what specifically needs to be addressed or fixed in order to meet those outcomes.
Tasks:
In about 300 words, respond to the following:
• How does performance measurement differ from program evaluation?
• What do you think are the key benefits of using performance measurement as part of the program evaluation process?

Discuss how race, ethnicity, gender, social class, religion, and sexual orientation have influenced your development as a person.

One of the objectives of this course is for you to examine your ethnic heritage, cultural identity, values, and assumptions and analyze their impact on the provision of culturally competent services.
This assignment aims to help accomplish the first part of this objective.
Tasks:
• Reflect on how the person you are today has been influenced by your group affiliations.
• If someone were to ask you, “What are you?”, what would your reply be and how would you incorporate some of the factors of diversity into your response?
Discuss how race, ethnicity, gender, social class, religion, and sexual orientation have influenced your development as a person.

Describe genetic and environmental influences on adult intelligence and special mental abilities.

There is some evidence that intelligence quotient (IQ) scores and intelligence have a hereditary component attached to them (Bouchard, 1998); although, this stance has been strongly criticized by others when discussed within the context of racial and ethnic differences. For example, Nisbett et al. (2012) highlighted several arguments against the heritability of intelligence determining European Americans’ or African Americans’ IQ scores, citing examples of adoption studies and intervention strategies, among others—all of which disprove the notion that intelligence is hereditary and explain the differences in IQ among minority and nonminority groups.
In essence, there is no evidence that there is an intelligence gene, and racial and ethnic differences are best explained by the idea that IQ tests carry cultural biases as their content reflects information primarily relevant to Western cultures. This criticism is shared with other methods of standardized testing, as illustrated by the classic example of the media decrying the use of the term “regatta” in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). A regatta is a series of boat races—given that this term is predominantly used among higher socioeconomic status (SES) individuals, it would be considered culturally unfair for lower SES, inner-city youths (Thaler & Jones-Forrester, 2013).
Race, as a biological concept, has been talked about and researched in the scholarly literature. People do not differ due to the kinds of genes they possess; they only differ in the way genes show themselves physically (Sternberg, Grigorenko, & Kidd, 2005). No particular set of traits belong to one group or race. Despite this, researchers have observed physical and genetic similarities among individuals who live in the isolated areas and hypothesized that the similarities might be the result of the limited mates available there (Brown, 1998). Nonetheless, there is no proof that there are racial and genetic categories. Simply because people look different from one another does not mean there are distinct biological differences or justify biology as a source of race. In essence, we all are a part of the same race—the human race.

Race is not biologically constructed; much like ethnicity, race is a social construct. The term “race” is used to describe people’s physical differences such as hair, eye, and skin color and is used to sort people into groups (Markus, 2008). Experts agree that skin color does not cause a need for the term “race” (Sternberg, Grigorenko, & Kidd, 2005). It is just that people like to name and label things, places, and other people.
Race is simply used to organize people into groups. Experts have indicated that race is arbitrary and meaningless because biology has no part in race (Glenn, 1999). Historically, race was used in the eugenics movement to refer to biological (nonexistent) differences (Sternberg et al., 2005). As a social category, race is used not only by ordinary people but by large institutions as well. On job applications or school applications, there is always a section under which you are supposed to check a box identifying your race. This illustrates the need people and institutions have to sort and classify others into groups.

Assignment 1: Race
As you work in the human services delivery sector, you will encounter people (both clients and colleagues) from different racial backgrounds.
In this assignment, you will critically think about how racial differences can impact the work equation between a service delivery provider and a service delivery recipient and also between the agency staff members.
Tasks:
Given what you have learned in Module 2 regarding race as socially constructed versus biologically constructed, post your responses to the following:
• Discuss whether there is a difference between the two.
• Elaborate on how race impacts the work equation between a service delivery provider and a service delivery recipient.
Discuss how racial diversity impacts the work equation between agency staff members. Be specific in your responses and illustrate using examples. Support your points using scholarly sources.
