Describe the major steps and the milestones of your project along with a timeline for each step.

Project Design

Using the information that you gained from the readings thus far, write a  three- to four-page paper (not including the title and reference pages) that describes a project that you might undertake (this can be a fictitious one or one that you have actually worked on). Describe the major steps and the milestones of your project along with a timeline for each step. Be sure to explain how to address team conflicts and how to help ensure team cohesion and collaboration. You are required to use at least two scholarly sources in

A telecommunications consultant has proposed a municipal WiFi network for the downtown and marina.

NETW563 – Case Studies Requirements

There are two case study assignments required for the course. Case studies are designed to give the student the opportunity to analyze and solve real world problems. The case studies will consist of the students’ analysis and conclusions.  The case studies should be between 750 and 1,000 words.

Case Study 1

Municipal WiFi  – Hot or Not?

A number of U.S. cities have launched municipal WiFi networks over the past few years. Research three deployments, anywhere in the world, and compare the networks in terms of architecture, applications, cost to the consumer, and success.

Subjects Covered:  Consumers, Customer relations, Information technology, Innovation, Internet, Market research, Marketing strategy, Pricing, Product introduction, Telecommunications industry.

In Case Study 1, focus on the following issues:

–        Applications for the service

–        Cost of the service for the users and the cost to the city for deployment

–        What factors influenced the success or failure of the project

Case Study 2

Bayton is small Midwestern city of 30, 000 people. The town is located on Lake Michigan and supports a large 600 slip marina that is adjacent to the downtown business district. The downtown has been in decline for the past 15 years. There are a few restaurants, but most of the buildings are boarded up. A number of economic development projects have been tried in the past, but nothing seems to stick. However, there is small historic district surrounding the downtown that has been moderately successful in attracting some “urban pioneers” who have purchased old historic homes and performed renovations.

A telecommunications consultant has proposed a municipal WiFi network for the downtown and marina. The consultant claims that this network will bring in businesses and spark a redevelopment of the downtown.  It could also be used to connect mobile public service personnel such as police, firefighters, and the water department. The signal would blanket the marina, downtown, and offer some penetration into the historic district. The consultant is seeking a $50,000 commitment from the city to cover the initial cost of equipment and deployment and would negotiate a yearly maintenance contract. The consultant claims that new businesses, increased traffic at the marina, and the savings on the public service network would offset the cost of the network.

Currently, Internet access is available downtown through Comcast and AT&T DSL There is an adequate 3G wireless footprint throughout the city. The marina is not served by Comcast or a telco DSL service.

You are a local IT professional and the mayor has asked you to evaluate this proposal and make a recommendation to the city council. Use the information obtained in Case Study 1 to support your decision.

Subjects Covered: Information technology, Internet, Service management, Technology & operations, Telecommunications, Telecommunications industry.

In Case Study 2, focus on the following issues:

– The potential of the Municipal WiFi network to spark investment based on your previous research

– The potential to leverage the network for municipal services such as police, fire, meter reading, etc…based on your previous research

– The potential for the city to provide a internet access as a public utility, akin to the water department or garbage collection based on your previous research

Described plan for implementation of interventions and anticipated signs of success.

valuation of Plan Effectiveness Criteria

Evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions.

Some questions you should seek answers to are:

  1. Would I be able to implement the interventions? If not, what barriers exist?
  2. What visible signs of success (for example, reduced health issues) would I look for? What is your projected effectiveness?

The evaluation component of the final paper should describe your evaluation of the implementation. Include responses to points 1 and 2 above. The evaluation component of the final Microsoft Word submission document should be a minimum of 2 pages.

The complete summary document should use the Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, Track (MAP-IT) steps used in pulling together your project.

Over the past phases, you selected an aggregate and conducted a risk assessment of its health, developed a care plan to address those health risks, and considered the effectiveness of the interventions on the health of the aggregate. It’s time now for you to present your final submission of this project.

Your final submission should include: the documentation of the work accomplished through your project, a Microsoft Word Document that contains the evaluation and summary, and a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation highlighting the main aspects of the project.

The summary document should use the Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, Track (MAP-IT) steps used in pulling together your project. The complete documentation of the work accomplished over the course of the project should contain a minimum of 6 pages in a Microsoft Word document and should include the following information:

  • A detailed description of the aggregate
  • A description of the aggregate’s strengths and weaknesses
  • A risk assessment of the aggregate
  • Diagnoses based on the risk assessment
  • A detailed care plan for the aggregate
  • A description of how at least one intervention was implemented in the aggregate to address an identified issue
  • An evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention

The Power Point presentation should be concise and should include the highlights of the project and the key things learned over the course of this project, from developing, planning interventions, and evaluating the care plan. Your presentation should not exceed 15 slides.

Submit your final Microsoft Word document containing the evaluation and complete summary. Use bold sub-headings in the paper to differentiate between the evaluation and the summary information.

Submit your Microsoft Word document and PowerPoint presentation

Describe how the selected aspects relate to the evaluation and interpretation of criminal justice data and research findings.

Creswell (2014) discusses Qualitative Procedures. He suggests ten aspects that distinguish qualitative research writing (I have provided the 10 aspects for you below directly from the book). Considering the salient aspects of qualitative writing as depicted in your text.

Identify three of the most salient aspects of the ten distinguishing characteristics of qualitative writing.

  • Discuss why these aspects were selected.
  • Describe how the selected aspects relate to the evaluation and interpretation of criminal justice data and research findings.
  • Explain why researchers would consider qualitative methods an artistic expression of formalized methodology.

The paper

  • Must be 3 1/2  double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA
  • Must use at least five peer-reviewed sources in addition to the course text.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  1. Qualitative research occurs in natural settings, where human behavior and events occur.
  2. Qualitative research is based on assumptions that are very different from quantitative designs. Theory or hypotheses are not established a priori.
  3. The researcher is the primary instrument in data collection rather than some inanimate mechanism (Eisner, 1991; Frankel & Wallen, 1990; Lincoln & Guba, 1985; Merriam, 1988).
  4. The data that emerge from a qualitative study are descriptive. That is, data are reported in words (primarily the participant’s words) or pictures, rather than in numbers (Fraenkel & Wallen, 1990; Locke et al., 1987; Marshall & Rossman, 1989; Merriam, 1988).
  5. The focus of qualitative research is on participants’ perceptions and experiences, and the way they make sense of their lives (Fraenkel & Wallen, 1990; Locke et al., 1987; Merriam, 1988). The attempt is therefore to understand not one, but multiple realities (Lincoln & Guba, 1985).
  6. Qualitative research focuses on the process that is occurring as well as the product or outcome. Researchers are particularly interested in understanding how things occur (Fraenkel & Wallen, 1990; Merriam, 1988).
  7. Idiographic interpretation is utilized. In other words, attention is paid to particulars; and data is interpreted in regard to the particulars of a case rather than generalizations.
  8. Qualitative research is an emergent design in its negotiated outcomes. Meanings and interpretations are negotiated with human data sources because it is the subjects’ realities that the researcher attempts to reconstruct (Lincoln & Guba, 1985; Merriam, 1988).
  9. This research tradition relies on the utilization of tacit knowledge (intuitive and felt knowledge) because often the nuances of the multiple realities can be appreciated most in

this way (Lincoln & Guba, 1985). Therefore, data are not quantifiable in the traditional sense of the word.

  1. Objectivity and truthfulness are critical to both research traditions. However, the criteria for judging a qualitative study differ from quantitative research. First and foremost, the researcher seeks believability, based on coherence, insight and instrumental utility (Eisner, 1991) and trustworthiness (Lincoln & Guba, 1985) through a process of verification rather than through traditional validity and reliability measures. [Qualitative characteristics are mentioned.]

Demonstrates understanding of rhetorical mode and uses it to deliver appropriate, detailed and pertinent content structured in a logical pattern.

The word argument usually conjures up images of agitated people disagreeing with each other, often emotionally. In academic writing, the argument or persuasive essay is not about confrontation. Instead, this essay relies on detailed evidence, cool logic, and precise language to persuade readers to accept a viewpoint or to take an action. This ability to make a reasonable, persuasive case for your point of view can be one of the most important skills for your advancement in the workplace.

For this Individual Project, you should either choose one of the topics below or devise one of your own (with your instructor’s approval) and write a short argument or persuasive essay. As you discovered in your reading, you will assert a position on the topic and then defend that position so well that others might agree with you. Remember, the argument or persuasive essay is not a personal rant. Your goal is to appear unbiased.

One of the ways of achieving a level of objectivity is to consider counterarguments against your position. Therefore, at least one of your paragraphs should include some discussion of a counterargument. For example, if you write in favor of abolishing the death penalty, you might devote some discussion to the loved ones of a murder victim, the need for these survivors to gain closure, or even their demands that the perpetrator meet a similar fate as the loved one taken from them.

You are welcome to rely on the five-paragraph essay structure of English 106. Click here for a sample outline for an argument or persuasive essay.

Topics

Click here for the suggested topics list for the argument or persuasive outline.

Note: You may choose one of the topics provided. If you wish to devise your own topic, please seek your instructor’s approval of the topic before you begin writing.

As you choose your topic, keep in mind that your goal in English 107 is to create, week-by-week, a college-level research paper. You will submit a final draft of this paper at the end of Week 5. Although you will be allowed to change topics if needed, you should choose a topic this week that you will be comfortable researching and writing about throughout the course. Regardless of the topic that you choose, be sure to complete the following:

  • Format your essay in APA manuscript style. Watch this video for step-by-step instructions: APA style at AIU.
  • Include an introduction paragraph (place your thesis statement at or near the end of this paragraph).
  • Develop at least 3 main points in 3 body paragraphs, and include at least 1 counterargument.
  • End the essay with a wrap-up or conclusion paragraph.

Checklist

Format the pages of your project in APA manuscript style in the following order:

  • Title page
  • Abstract
  • Essay

Assignment 1: Demand Estimation

Due Week 3 and worth 200 points

Imagine that you work for the maker of a leading brand of low-calorie, frozen microwavable food that estimates the following demand equation for its product using data from 26 supermarkets around the country for the month of April.

For a refresher on independent and dependent variables, please go to Sophia’s Website and review the Independent and Dependent Variables tutorial, located at http://www.sophia.org/tutorials/independent-and-dependent-variables–3.

Option 1

Note: The following is a regression equation. Standard errors are in parentheses for the demand for widgets.

QD = – 5200 – 42P + 20PX + 5.2I + 0.20A + 0.25M

(2.002) (17.5) (6.2) (2.5) (0.09) (0.21)

R2 = 0.55 n = 26 F = 4.88

Your supervisor has asked you to compute the elasticities for each independent variable. Assume the following values for the independent variables:

Q = Quantity demanded of 3-pack units

P (in cents) = Price of the product = 500 cents per 3-pack unit

PX (in cents) = Price of leading competitor’s product = 600 cents per 3-pack unit

I (in dollars) = Per capita income of the standard metropolitan statistical area

(SMSA) in which the supermarkets are located = $5,500

A (in dollars) = Monthly advertising expenditures = $10,000

M = Number of microwave ovens sold in the SMSA in which the

supermarkets are located = 5,000

Option 2

Note: The following is a regression equation. Standard errors are in parentheses for the demand for widgets.

QD = -2,000 – 100P + 15A + 25PX + 10I

(5,234) (2.29) (525) (1.75) (1.5)

R2 = 0.85 n = 120 F = 35.25

Your supervisor has asked you to compute the elasticities for each independent variable. Assume the following values for the independent variables:

Q = Quantity demanded of 3-pack units

P (in cents) = Price of the product = 200 cents per 3-pack unit

PX (in cents) = Price of leading competitor’s product = 300 cents per 3-pack unit

I (in dollars) = Per capita income of the standard metropolitan statistical area

(SMSA) in which the supermarkets are located = $5,000

A (in dollars) = Monthly advertising expenditures = $640

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  1. Compute the elasticities for each independent variable. Note: Write down all of your calculations.
  2. Determine the implications for each of the computed elasticities for the business in terms of short-term and long-term pricing strategies. Provide a rationale in which you cite your results.
  3. Recommend whether you believe that this firm should or should not cut its price to increase its market share. Provide support for your recommendation.
  4. Assume that all the factors affecting demand in this model remain the same, but that the price has changed. Further assume that the price changes are 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 cents.
    1. Plot the demand curve for the firm.
    2. Plot the corresponding supply curve on the same graph using the following MC / supply function Q = -7909.89 + 79.1P with the same prices.
    3. Determine the equilibrium price and quantity.
    4. Outline the significant factors that could cause changes in supply and demand for the low-calorie, frozen microwavable food. Determine the primary manner in which both the short-term and the long-term changes in market conditions could impact the demand for, and the supply, of the product.
  5. Indicate the crucial factors that could cause rightward shifts and leftward shifts of the demand and supply curves for the low-calorie, frozen microwavable food.
  6. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia does not qualify as an academic resource.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze how production and cost functions in the short run and long run affect the strategy of individual firms.
  • Apply the concepts of supply and demand to determine the impact of changes in market conditions in the short run and long run, and the economic impact on a company’s operations.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in managerial economics and globalization.

Write clearly and concisely about managerial economics and globalization using proper writing mechanics
