Write an essay on the Songs of Innocence

B) Many, although not all, of William Blake’s poems in his Songs of Innocence collection have an often darker companion poem in his Songs of Experience volume. Some of these are obvious due to the similar titles such as the two versions of “The Nurse’s Song,” “The Little Boy Lost” and “The Little Girl Lost” etc. Some are not as obvious, such as the pairing of “The Lamb” and “The Tiger.” Pick one poem from each collection you think are companions. In your introduction/thesis you need to first name the common link (basis of comparison) and then clearly lay out the major differences. You may want to touch on elements of craft such as imagery, diction, tone, and rhythm/prosody, etc in addition to content as part of your analysis. I would also like you to consider the effects of these differences on the reader and what might have motivated Blake to write these two companion poems. YOUR ESSAY NEEDS TO INCLUDE SUPPORTING EVIDENCE AND ANALYSIS OF THAT EVIDENCE.General Guidelines

1) Your essay must have a specific title that accurately conveys to the reader what your essay is about

2) The introduction (first paragraph) should try to avoid vague and general language and focus on drawing the reader into the essay. Some ways to do this are through background information, quotes by literary critics or the author, anecdotes, or a common misperception that your essay will clear up.

3) Each body paragraph should have a clear and specific topic sentence, textual evidence, AND analysis of that textual evidence. Make sure that the textual evidence relates to, and helps prove, your thesis.

4) Use in paragraph citation format to refer to material that you quote or paraphrase.

5) Make sure that each of your paragraphs follow the known-new contract and the levels of generality. The most specific information should appear near the end of the paragraph.

6) Watch out for clear transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

7) When proofreading, pay special attention to areas in your paper where you have several grammatical and syntactical errors. Often these types of errors indicate parts of your argument that you have not fully worked out. Unclear writing is often a result of unclear, or not fully hashed out, thinking.

8) Your essay should be free of major grammatical and syntactical errors such as run-ons, fragments, mixed constructions, and singular/plural agreement errors
