Content: Attend a concert of classical music (after January 19, 2016!) and write an essay on the following (BE SURE TO ADDRESS ALL OF THE POINTS LISTED):

A. Give a (very) brief overview of the performing ensemble, the pieces on the program, discussing instrumentation, and genre or type of the pieces performed (3-4 sentences).
B. (Very) briefly describe the performance venue and the audience.( What does the audience do during the performance? ( listening quietly) Does the audience interact with the performers(no), does the audience sit quietly and focus their attention on the performers(yes), or does the audience conduct other activities and pay little attention to the performance?(no)
C. Pick two of the pieces that particularly capture your attention.( pick two) Give your INDIVIDUAL responses to these pieces. Does each seem expressive to you in some way? If so, how? Does each piece remind you of something you have heard in class or somewhere else?(no) If so, what does it remind you of, and what are the similarities that you notice?
D. What genres do the two pieces you have selected represent (symphony? Opera aria? Concerto? Chamber music? Etc.)? If you arent sure, what genres do they most resemble to you? What is one feature that suggests that genre?
E. What are these two pieces for, i.e, for what reason was each piece created? Choose one of the following items for each of the pieces you selected:
1. Was one or both pieces originally created for a utilitarian purpose, either to serve a particular function or to accompany a particular activity and, if so, what was it? What are two or three features of your selected piece that make it well suited to this purpose or function? OR

2 Was one or both pieces originally created as an expressive statement by a creative artist? If so, what does the piece express, or seem to express? What or two or three details that convey this expression?
