Water

Water is part of a finite resource calling for conservation of the resource for the survival of living things on earth. Estimates of water resources indicated that the earth’s surface is covered with seventy five percent of water. More than ninety eight percent of the water is salty and the remaining percentage is pure water mainly in glaciers and groundwater. Life on earth heavily depends on water resources. Hydrologists argue that the human population is ever rising hence putting pressure on water resources.

Water systems are complex and impacting on the day to day climate changes. It is the high time for the human beings to be concerned with water conservation (Chin, 2012). Causes of water pollution in the modern context are; sewage, wastewater, marine dumping, industrial waste, radioactive waste, improper farming activities, deforestation, leakages in the underground storage, oil pollution, global warming, eutrophication and atmosphere deposition among others (Soll, 2013).

Water conservation can be facilitated by empowering human beings in taking responsive measures in protecting the limited water resources (Soll, 2013). Conservation of water can be facilitated by simple social activities like turning off taps to conserve running water, avoiding throwing litter in water, using household products that are environmentally friendly, technology, practicing responsible farming activities and afforestation among other ways (Linsley et al., 2002). Finding fresh water is becoming a difficult task with time; hydrologists indicate that most nations are using technology in increasing fresh water and at the same time in reducing water pollution (Chin, 2012).

Technologies are engaged in maintaining the ecosystem in good shape as a way of improving the sustainability of living things in the world. In the modern era, the rate of water withdrawal and pollution is alarming. The global climate change is a reality with hydrologists arguing that the human activities contribute significantly to the degradation of the resource.
