Outline
1. Abstract—Write an abstract, which is a summary of the paper. It is very brief. Identify it as the abstract. Look at some journal articles to get a sense of what should be included. The abstract only will be posted on Blackboard and shared with the rest of the class.
2. Introduction—give an overview of your topic and what the goal of your paper will be.
3. Define the problem—include statistics and explain how this came to be viewed as a problem. In other words, explain the claim that it is a social problem.
4. If there are any legal case decisions that are relevant, include them. You may either include them in a separate section or integrate them into the next two sections.
5. Discuss some solutions that experts recommend in dealing with the problem.
6. Discuss your point of view on the problem and its solution.
7. Argue why your analysis of the problem and solution is the best one in your opinion and how you came to that conclusion.
8. Play devil’s advocate and discuss what an opponent of your solution might argue against your point of view.
9. Rebut the critic.
10. Why hasn’t your solution or any others that you think merit consideration been implemented?
11. How do you think the problem will be resolved, if it will?
12. Conclusion—give an overview of what your discussed, a summary of the intent of your paper and include any recommendations that you have which could lead to a solution or improvement with regard to the social problem.
