In your final paper, you will discuss the role the body plays in Chaplin’s work. You can focus on a particular film if you want—i.e. the role the body plays in City Lights, or you can speak to this in general. You should, regardless, use specific examples from the films, and also use support from the book, and other sources, if you like, but you must use the Kamin text in your paper to help support your ideas. Think about the different ways that Chaplin uses the body – the legs, the feet, the upper torso, the face, the head, the mouth, etc. And you should also think about the different aims of the body in his work—comedy, drama, romance, work, tragedy, etc. Make sure, no matter what, that you have a clear thesis, that you prove that thesis through the paper, and that you have clear structured paragraphs that address whatever your topic sentence of that paragraph is trying to prove. Also, make sure that you use MLA format – both in the body of the text (parenthetical citations) and that you have a Works Cited page, or a bibliography. 5-7 pages, double spaced. Make sure you do not forget to cite your films.
Both parts are due May 3rd, but we will continue into May 5th depending on how long the presentations go. Use props, costumes, have fun with this! Your presentation should be minimum 5 minutes long. You can also use music, sound effects, etc. Study Chaplin together and see what you can come up!
