Objectives of the research are given as follows.
• Evaluate the state of affairs in the downstream, upstream, and midstream sectors of Nigeria.
• Obtain evidence of proposed improvement in the PIB, the infrastructure needed to implement these improvements, and the barriers against these improvements
• Conduct a set of interviews with senior managers of the Nigerian oil industry, and managers of foreign oil firms, to obtain divergent/ convergent views about the PIB.
1.6 Research structure
The dissertation is structured as per the following format.
Chapter 1. Introduction. Presents an introduction to the research along with rationale, background and other details of the research.
2. Literature review. The chapter reviews the literature on best practices in the oil and gas sector in other countries, and the nature of IJVs that operate in these countries.
3. Methodology. The chapter presents the research design with justification for different components of the research.
4. Findings, discussion and Analysis Chapter. The chapter presents findings from the primary research, along with the discussion and analysis of the results.
1.7 Proposed Methodology
A combined research method with secondary and primary research is planned. Primary research will be in the form of semi-structured interview with senior personnel in the Nigerian energy sector, and private oil firms. Secondary research will be carried out by reviewing journals, books, and information from reliable websites. Findings from these sources will be analysed to answer the research question.
