The policy that I will describe and work with this term is the school’s attendance policy.

2. Explain what the policy or practice is, (4/5 pts)-What are the consequences for absenteeism? If students have unexcused absences, what happens? What happens if students do not have notes from parents and guardians? What happens if students miss too much school?

The school’s attendance policy is a crucial policy that will allow students to succeed in their academic. The school management will work hard to ensure that students adhere to the rules and regulations set in the policy. When students are absent, the school will require them to bring a note from their guardian or doctor indicating the reasons for absenteeism. However, students will not be punished if the absenteeism was due to illness or injury, death of the family, educational opportunity, medical appointment, and religious observances. If students do not have notes from parents and guardians, they should be punished by the teacher. If students miss too many classes, they can be excluded from school and thus, cannot come back.

The most affected stakeholders by the policy are students. Students have a chance to attend classes and acquire knowledge, and failure causes them to be punished by the school. Other stakeholders affected by the policy are parents in that; they hold their children accountable of arriving early in schools. Lastly, schools also benefit from this policy in that they encourage students to participate in classes thus acquiring knowledge. The policy impacts absent students because, they have to punished or excluded from the school. The class may not perform well when students are absent. Lastly, an attendance policy impacts parents and families because; they have to provide notes or explanation to the school for absenteeism of their children.

4. Explain how this practice or policy relates to you. (4/5 pts), additional connections and explanations to the attendance policy are desired. How else as a teacher does an attendance policy impact you, your class, the learning environment, your relationship with students and parents?

The attendance relates to me in that, I personally believe that a student has to attend classes to perform well in academics. A student who attends classes often is more likely to succeed in her/his academics that a student who misses their classes. The school should punish students who miss classes as this affect their academic performance. Parents have a role to play in ensuring that their children abide to the roles and regulations of the attendance policy. Attending classes helps one to gather adequate facts and information assessed in exams. By attending classes, a student has chance to understand the subject in a more comprehensive way. A teacher is more likely to plan his work well when student are present. He may access the progress made in a lesson. As a teacher, an attendance policy impacts the learning environment in that it enhances a strong environment where teachers interact with students effectively. The policy also enhances a strong relationship between parents and teachers. The policy creates a strong ground for parents to understand when their children miss classes.
