The employees lack motivation because there is nothing to motivate them. Contrary to the traditional theory of motivation, employees are not only motivated by monetary rewards. These nurses are never given any promotions, they are not given any motivational talks in order to encourage cooperation and participation, and they are not recognized as individuals. Additionally, the supervisor does not acquire feedback from the nurses as much as he receives from the patients. Since most of the activities in nursing are routine, they also lack motivation due to lack of challenges. Challenging medical cases have been known to motivate some professionals in the healthcare field to do more than the routine. Failing to involve the nurses into such cases, as much as possible pulls back their critical thinking. In other cases, the nurses might lack motivation if their leader (supervisor) lacks the motivation needed. There are employees who follow the leader.

The situation can be improved through various ways. I would ask the organization to focus on other non-monetary motivational factors. The nurses should be offered promotions in order to show them that they are as competent for such positions as other people in other organizations are. Supervising, head nursing and other higher positions should be accommodated by nurses who have worked diligently from within. I would give motivational talks or ask other individuals of higher positions to do so as they are also significant. These talks encourage the nurses to work together in corporation and to participate in other duties that are outside their scope of work. I would be ready to receive feedback from the nurses as I receive it from the patients. This enables a supervisor to counteract the feedbacks. For example, a patient might complain of a certain area where a nurse is challenged in. Recognizing individual nurses is significant as it enables a nurse to identify their strengths, weaknesses and their efforts and thus act accordingly.
