Topic: “In the retail context, doing business and living life converge”. Critically assess the validity of this statement in light of the theories of retail evolution, the forms of retail ownership and the strategic management of the retail mix.
Directions
The essay will be marked out of 30 marks. The essay should be structured as follows:
- The introduction (about a page)(4 marks):
- General introduction to the topic of evolution in retailing.
- Narrow the topic down to the central point of the argument you wish to make.
- Outline in a statement (the thesis statement) briefly your argument and how the essay will be structured to address it.
- The body (the bulk part)(20 marks):
- Discuss the various aspects/points (see the italics above) of your argument using theory and examples (e. use literature -mainly notes, book, external reading (1) and other sources if possible) to critically assess the validity of the statement provided.
- The conclusion(about a page)(3 marks):
- Sum up your argument.
- Based on the above summary, come up with your own opinion.
References/bibliography (a separate page) (3 marks)
- Using the Harvard system of referencing, please ensure citing (in-text and in the reference page) the sources of the literature (except class notes) used in your essay (see the Harvard system guide posted on Blackboard).
