Primary Source 1: Regius Poem
The Regius Poem is a review of th the oldest known Masonic document. In the beginning is tells how Euclid counterfeited geometry and renamed it masonry, to be taught to the kids of nobility in Ancient Egypt. Next it talks about the spread of geometry into the Divers Lands. It then discusses how masonry came to be in England in 924 while Athelstan was king. Masons would go to the king for guidance. The king, masons, and nobility then created the fifteen articles and points for how they would rule. It said not to harbor thieves, take bribes, go to church routinely, etc. Also do not make your masons labor at night, teach apprentices properly, do not take on jobs that you cannot do, etc. This text is useful because it gives me the history of the Masonic Order which will help me better understand it.
