The results should be a concise text divided into number of subsections. Each subsection should present fully processed data/results related to a specific aim or set of aims/objectives of the practical. You must decide how many sections should be presented and how best to structure and order them to enable a logical progression through the experiments performed, to the ‘final result’ achieved.
Figures and tables: For this report the results sections MUST contain at least the following figures and tables.
Figure 1 qRT-PCR results: This figure should have 2 parts:
Figure 1(A) fully processed qPCR bar graph from the class results
Figure 1(B) fully processed qPCR bar graph from your individual results
Bar graphs for these figures must be created using the BioRad CFX manager program
Tables. For this report the results sections MUST contain at least one data table. This table should present fully processed data of your qPCR results and the class results. The table must contain a statistical analysis of the data (SEM and p value) for the BCR/ABL and EG controls. The data for this table will be derived from the class data file.
NOTE: All figures and/or tables must cross referenced from the results text and must ‘support and compliment’ the text results presented. Each figure must be presented on a single page, not ‘fitted within’ the text sections of the results. Each figure must have a suitable title and legend (below the figure); which must provide note form information on all key data/points in the figure. The legend should enable the figure to ‘stand alone’ i.e. the reader should not have to refer back to the main text for key information on how to interpret or understand the main findings presented in the figure.
Discussion
The discussion should have at least 3 subsections. Subsection 1 should be a discussion of the final results you obtained for each stage of the practical. Clearly explain the main findings from each stage and how one results section leads on to the next. Highlight any issues that may have affected the accuracy/precision of the class and/or your results and/or progression from one stage to the next stage. This section should be a logical progression of the ‘flow’ of the whole experiment/practical from start to finish. Subsection 2 should be a final conclusion discussion point as to the success or otherwise of the entire experiment(s). Discuss what conclusions can you draw from the data and the final results. Subsection 3 should discuss what would you and/or other researches could/should do next with your findings. Discuss what’s been previously published in the literature in relation to your findings and what clinical significance these results would have if they were from derived from a patient suffering from Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
