Chapter 9: Training

It is dark, smoky, and hot. You are alone inside a burning structure and running out of air. You cannot even see your hand in front of your face and you are totally disoriented. The heat is starting to increase tremendously. The linoleum under your knees is starting to melt. Your ears feel as if they are on fire. How did you get in the situation? What are you going to do? What should you do? Do you have enough time to make a carefully considered decision? Should you stand up and run? Should you do the low crawl and try to find a doorway? What has happened to the rest of your crew? As panic starts to set in, you have only one thing to rely on at that moment, and that is your training. You should not let panic overcome you and reduce you to helplessness. You should have some idea of where to go and how to get there. You should be able to conserve your air and activate your personal alarm. You should be able to make the decision and save your own life. Will you be able to?

Prepare an original 45 page paper, organized in paragraph structure, in which you describe the ways in which the fire department functions as a part of local government. Give careful attention to both spelling and grammar as you work to address, at a minimum, the following items related to fire departments and local government relationships:

1.At least two services by which the fire department helps local government meet its responsibilities to its citizens

2.At least two ways in which the fire department depends on other local government entities

3.The administrative responsibilities of the fire department that may be liabilities for the governmental entity if not properly executed
