Students to construct their own title relevant to the topic of research covered in the experiment. Must give an overview of the experiment whilst at the same time being concise.
TOPIC: The aim of the experiment is to investigate one of the hypotheses of Bruce and Young’s (1986) face recognition theory: that a person’s name is harder to remember than their occupation. A second variable, facial expression, is also investigated.
The report is designed to allow you to relate the concepts of ‘face recognition’ (the various theories, and general approaches used in the study of face recognition) to the conditions of investigation used in this study. You will be guided through the experimental work during your tutorials.

ABSTRACT
Clear and concise giving a brief summary of the experiment in approximately 150 words. Summarise every section of the report here: introduction, method, results, and discussion.
INTRODUCTION
Outlines the issues and/or position you are arguing for. Grade depends on how clearly and completely the argument is outlined.
Define and explore the key concepts of the topic.
Use references and examples that clearly illustrate a theory or theories, or approach to understanding the topic under investigation.
Discuss research you have found that relates to your topic.
All information in your report should be relevant to the topic of the report. Support your points with appropriate references from books and journal articles using the APA referencing style both in text and in the reference list at the end of the report.
Provide a clear rationale for the report. Why was this study conducted? Why is it important? What is novel? What will it add to our understanding of arousal?
Provide (a) relevant hypothesis/es. This/these should make/s sense based on your introduction and be presented in a paragraph at the end of your introduction.
METHOD
To include the appropriate subheadings:
Design: what was the design of the experiment? What were the IV(s), and how many levels were there? What were the DV(s), and how were they measured?
Participants: how many? Who were they? Demographics? How sampled?
Materials: what materials you needed to conduct your experiment in full.
Procedure: the steps taken to conduct the experiment, including ethics.
RESULTS
Begin with an introductory paragraph: what is the purpose of these tests?
Include descriptive and inferential statistics.
Include graphs where appropriate.
Include written material throughout to describe the inclusion of the tables and graphs.
Number tables and graphs and provide each one with a title.
DISCUSSION
You should include a clear discussion. You should include a critique supported by citations that relates the results of your experiment to your hypotheses and relevant literature, supported by references.
Discussion should start with a clear summary of results in words, and stating whether or not hypotheses can be accepted.
Included in the discussion should be: comparison of your results to previous research that you discussed in the introduction, accounting for any divergences; consideration of what implications your research has for theories and for real-world applications; evaluate limitations of the research, backed up with references; make suggestions for future research, based on your findings.
The discussion should draw the threads of your argument together. By the end of the discussion you should have answered the question posed in the report title.
