1. Choose a picture book or novel that you feel students should hear and know. Caldecott or Newberry Award winners are highly recommended. Do not use stories from a published basal series.
a. Design a creative book report that engages students with the story through a variety of comprehension strategies, graphic organizers, discussion topics, hands-on materials, etc., offering a variety of differentiated strategies to meet the needs of all students (i.e. ESOL/LEP students).
2. What do I want kids to know and be able to do as a result of this creative book report? Describe how you will know whether or not students met your objectives
A Note: This may NOT be one of your strategies. It must be a separate, simple, and effective way to evaluate your objective/s.
3. The mode (power-point, typed narrative, or hand-crafted project) should demonstrate appropriate representation of the story you selected. Include modifications for special needs students and ESOL students.
4. The project should be presented in class between the second and seventh sessions for ‘live’ classes. (Online students will submit to the assignment drop-box)
