Company Memo
You are an assistant in an investment firm who needs to relay important information about the rule and those businesses or industries that are covered by the rule.
For this assignment, you will need to summarize the proposed rule for your immediate supervisor. The memo will be subdivided into three sections:
- Rule Summary
- Description of those (industries, companies, etc.) impacted
- Description of the actions that the rule will impose upon those impacted
- Rule Summary
- Description of first industry or business affected and actions that the rule will impose
- Description of second industry or organization affected and actions that the rule will impose…
Usually agencies will have a one-paragraph summary of the rule. You will need to go far beyond one paragraph for the executives of your investment firm, and produce a 2-page summary that leaves your supervisor with complete understanding of all the main points of the structure and coverage of the regulation.
- Audience: Upper Management, specifically your direct superior
- Format: Business Memo
- Purpose: Efficient yet comprehensive summary of rule (no evaluation)
- Length: 2 pages, single-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman, full and complete sentences with minimal number of bullet points. Follows conventions from the given memo format.
Assignment Criteria (please consult the rubric for more information)
Audience: The tone and diction of the memo reflect a professional relationship with the audience.
Format: The structure of the memo follows standard conventions of a company memo, to include subsections, bullet points for only important information and short paragraphs that succinctly convey summary information of the rule and who is affected.
Purpose: The memo will communicate three important pieces of information.
a.) Summary of the rule
b.) Summary of specifically businesses or industries that are affected by the rule.
c.) Summarize what action these groups will need to take as indicated by the rule. In other words, how will the company, industry, etc. have to change should the rule be implemented?
Mechanics: There are little to no stylistic or grammatical errors in the memo. The memo has been proofread, correcting disjointed sentences, using minimal bullet points, and correct spelling and punctuation.
