Your topic should resemble those found in academic journal articles or media industry reports. State your research question/s. Your study should use 2 methods (one quantitative and one qualitative). (Use the Sea World crises reaction advertisement as an example of crises management. Refer to vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX5OSt9HvMI)
2. Write a 1-page introduction, explaining the purpose of your study and why this topic is significant (Example: list potential benefits of the findings to a media company or explain how your research idea is connected to a mass communication theory).
3. In a paragraph or two present your research questions and/or hypotheses.
Please have your topic and research questions approved by me no later than March 30, 2016
4. Conduct a thorough literature review of academic and industry studies that are relevant to your topic and theory (if applicable). Explain what is known about your topic and whether there are gaps in the literature. Look for themes, contradictions, and issues in the literature. Your literature review should be 5-7 pages long.
5. Pick one quantitative and one qualitative method to explore your research topic. Quantitative methods include surveys, experiments, and content analysis. Qualitative methods include focus groups, in-depth interviews, and participant observation.

Sampling:
o Mention overall population
o Explain what sample type you will use
o Explain how you will select your sample
o Specify sample size
o Describe how you will contact and recruit your research subjects (or if you are doing content analysis, where and how you will obtain media content for your study)
Procedures:
o Describe in detail how you would carry out the methods
7. Include a copy of the “consent form” if your research project involves human subjects.
8. Design the instruments for your two methods
o Example: code sheet for content analysis, questionnaire for surveys, interview guide for in-depth interviews or focus groups
9. Include the title of the research project, your name, and the name of the class on a cover page.
10. Use APA (American Psychological Association) citation and format style for your paper.
11. Your overall paper should be 8-10 pages long (not including the instruments and consent forms)
