While we have spent much of our time evaluating sources and arguments, this assignment mandates that you design your own argument. At this point in the semester, you have a solid background in different types of arguments and appeals. Use what you have learned to craft a sound argument.
Requirements for this assignment are as follows:
- Craft an argument with a clear thesis statement and preview in your introduction. While this is not always a part of an editorial, it is for this assignment. The thesis should reappear, in different form, in the conclusion.
- Provide support for your claims by doing research. You may use the sources you have found for other assignments. Although you are encouraged to reference outside sources, DO NOT use more than one direct quote. I want to hear your voice, not other people’s opinions. Use the research to support what you are arguing, not make the argument for you.
- Pick a side. Do not spend your time rebutting arguments against your topic – that will be done in future assignments. It should be clear to the reader what side you’re on.
- The paper should be 2.5 – 4 pages long, typed, double-spaced, using proper fonts, etc.
- You will need to include a bibliography for your sources. This does not count towards your page length.
