Mrs. Carter is a 68 year old married woman who has been admitted after having a cerebro-vascular accident (CVA). Mrs Carter is conscious with left sided hemiplegia with mild speech impediment. She has been admitted from A&E. She previously suffered with hypertension and had a mild CVA 1 year ago which she has no deficit from. She lives at home with her husband who is fully able, she is usually self caring and visits her GP regularly for check ups. She has been brought in by her husband, they both appear very anxious, Mrs Carter is getting frustrated that people are having difficulty understanding her. The doctors have asked that she remains NIL by mouth until a swallow assessment can be performed
