RESEARCH PAPER – FORMAT GUIDELINES
Length: 1500-2000 words – approximately 6 pages 1.5 line spacing.
Must contain an Abstract or Executive Summary and should have a thesis.

for the report. If you are at all unsure about how to structure the paper
please speak with your Tutorial Leader. There are many excellent websources
(OWL at Purdue for example) that can help you determine a good format for your
research.
Reference Format: Business Administration courses require
reference citation to be done using APA Referencing. You can find
more information on this style in the “APA Referencing Resources”
folder on webct. More detailed information can be found in the
Academic Skills Centre website.
Number of Sources: Approximately 6 – 10 good quality sources are
required. At least 4 of these should be journal articles.
Research Sources: While research can be retrieved from a variety of
sources, emphasis is placed on obtaining recognized, peer-reviewed
scholarly journal articles. Trent’s online database connects you to a
wide range of excellent scholarly sources. Particularly recommended
for this research project are the Sage Journals Online, EBSCO host
database, Scholar’s Portal for Business and CBCA (Canadian
Business and Current Affairs). If you are in any doubt about the
quality of your research sources do not hesitate to contact your
Tutorial Leader.

The purpose of this paper is to give you opportunity to explore some
business/management topic that is interesting to you, in more depth.
Note though, that exploring a topic in depth requires you to learn the
foundations and basics of it first …
and this may be background work you need to do that will not figure
very importantly in the actual paper you write.
A good paper is balanced (looking at pluses and minuses, or at more
than one perspective)In terms of topic and focus, your paper should be set
up to ask or at least consider a question or take a perspective.
