Detailed Brief for Individual/Group Assessment
The title of the assignment: Business Plan
Purpose of the assessment: Based on the case develop a business plan for the company, addressing its major challenge. It should take into the account the type and the nature of the business, the information provided, secondary research, and theoretical knowledge about entrepreneurship.
Context: The business plan should follow all the conventions of real world business plans, for example, in terms of layout, length, content and structure.

Implied funding: the available amount raised (as per the case)

Approach/steps to follow:
Use the template provided (reports in any other format won’t be marked)
All the sections must be covered
Plan 1 year ahead (on a short-term basis)
Reference all the sources used in the report following precisely Harvard Referencing Style, adopted by the University (see: https://www.studynet2.herts.ac.uk/ptl/common/LIS.nsf/lis/busharvard)
Minimum use of 5 academic sources (books, journals, websites for Mintel reports, Keynote, etc) is required
All the tables, graphs, and charts should be numbered, named, and referred to in the text
Do NOT engage in primary research for this task (without Ethics Approval, a fail would be given)
Check grammar, use UK spelling and try to use PEEEL to structure your main paragraphs. Refer to CASE

NB: It is important to note that a business plan is based on secondary research. It is the research which underpins the assumptions that all business plans have. It is therefore expected all business plans to exhibit secondary research, for example, on social, economic or market trends, which have created the opportunity. A key component of the assessment is the quality of the secondary research. Students are unlikely to be able to produce a convincing business plan that is based on skimpy or non-existent research.
Students are not expected to carry out primary research.
Students are expected to:
Be creative in developing your arguments, and thorough in the planning;
Demonstrate extensive reading, and the ability to apply theoretical concepts from the reading and lectures;
Avoid plagiarism: copying out or repeating large chunks of texts from books or journals
Not make unsubstantiated assertions, references must back up the in-text statements

Prepare a report that covers all the areas detailed below. You should consider your situation as of the time that you complete the report, i.e., your current skills, knowledge and experience.
There are five separate parts to this refer assignment, all of which must be completed to pass.
Access Times Top 100 graduate employers website www.top100graduateemployers.com and find an advertised graduate role that you would be interested in applying for when you graduate. Research the company and the role and write a brief report that outlines the following:
The organisation’s sector – market, competitors, current financial situation, current trading situation
The role – main responsibilities and requirements, how the role fits within the organisation

Review your current competencies against the identified roles requirements and develop a personal SWOT to illustrate your areas of strength and areas where you have development requirements; where you see opportunities and where there may be threats to you becoming a suitable candidate for this role.

Construct a personal development plan (PDP) (making use of an appropriate table format) that details how you will develop the skill and competence in areas where you have identified that you are weak or require further development. This should cover the time until you graduate and beyond. Further detail can be provided in an appendix if required.

Develop a one-minute written ‘elevator’ pitch, which you would present to recruiters for this organisation outlining how you meet their requirements and why they should recruit you for this role

Prepare a STAR example that demonstrates your competence in Team Working. You can make use of information from the team working assignment within this module as necessary to support your demonstration of competence in this area. This should be submitted as an appendix to your report.

‘Much of everyday life seems obvious, natural and inevitable. When we look closer, however, we can see the ways in which everyday life reflects power and inequality, the operation of ideology, and the process of socialisation.’

Respond to this claim in relation to the three topics of work, health, and racism. Address each of these topics in a separate paragraph, applying the above concepts. Your answer must reflect your engagement with both the lectures, and the relevant essential readings.

Theorists/authors should be acknowledged (ie ‘Scott argues that ….’) but do not use direct quotes or close paraphrasing from either the readings or the lectures. You must express your ideas in your own words in order to demonstrate your understanding of the material. This is not a suggestion – it is a requirement.

Your answer must be 750 words in length. Each topic will be marked separately and each topic is equal in marks, so you should devote approximately 250 words to each topic.

You do not have to apply each concept to each topic. However, you should address each of these concepts in the course of your complete exam answer.

No additional research is required – you should refer only to the essential readings and lectures.

Your exam answer will be checked for originality through turnitin.

Topic: Strategic plan for an organization (any) using concepts from book: \’Good to Great\’ (Collins)

Utilizing the ideas presented in class and in the book Good to Great, your assignment is to prepare a
4-6 page strategic plan (12 pt. font, line spacing 1.0 or 1.5) for your target organization that will accomplish its strategic intent within the next 5 years. This may build on the first two written assignments, or you can choose a different organization and set of management priorities. If you stay with the same organization, your plan must expand on the initiatives already proposed in the earlier assignments. All plans should contain these four elements:

A. Begin with a summary statement that describes in both qualitative and quantitative terms your vision for the end state position of your organization (e.g., size, profitability, market share, rank, geographic coverage, product scope, etc.), using a time horizon of five years.

B. Describe the hedgehog concept around which you will build your successful strategy. State it in a single sentence, printed in bold. Be sure it answers the three questions posed by Collins.

C. Identify the specific pillars or management initiatives in your strategy for getting there. Explain how you intend to implement these planks, with staffing requirements, calls for action, use of cross functional teams, target dates and budget considerations. For example, your pillars might be:
· Offer new product lines or services
· Attack new distribution channels
· Reach new domestic or international markets
· Extend geographic coverage
· Strengthen core competencies
· Develop new or expanded resources
· Apply technology accelerators
· Tighten cost structure

D. Establish key performance goals so it will be clear whether or not the plan has been achieved. Cite the most single critical “economic denominator” for measuring the company’s progress.

The target audience for this plan should be the company’s management team and/or board of directors. Avoid jargon and make all technical issues understandable to the non-technical people on your board and within the management team. Assume that the organization’s directors are sophisticated executives who want any proposals backed up with facts and analysis, not unsupported claims and puffery. Put this plan in a form where you would be proud to submit it to the CEO of the subject company. If the plan is targeted at your current employer, you may even want to do that. It can’t hurt, and they could decide to implement your ideas.

Uber: Changing the way the world moves

Students will prepare a ONE page (single sided) analysis of the case that includes the case issues, analysis, and recommendations.
DO NOT plagiarize from the case. You should not be copying or paraphrasing from the case.

Issues: ( The issues must be came up from the case)

Start each case submission by identifying which issues you plan on tackling in your case analysis. Often the major issues of the case are explicitly stated at the beginning or end of the case. ì Select 3– 4 issues to focus on. ì The issues should be marketing focused (see the list will be posted). Phrase each issue in the form of a question that needs to be answered.

Make sure the issues is phrased as a question.
Make sure the issues are marketing focused.

Analysis:
Please DO NOT simply regurgitate the facts of the cases.
Organization your analysis around each issue.
Support your points with evidence from the case
While generic analysis, such as SWOT and environmental analysis, can be useful, given the space constraints you needs to focus strictly on the issues.

Recommendations:
The final part of each submission will be the recommendations section.
Here is where you “answer” the questions you posited in the issues section!
Your recommendations should resolve the issues and should make sense given your analysis.
Its should all flow and fit together.
Be specific in your recommendations. It should be clear what the protagonist should do.

PS: The paper should be write like:
Issues: 1………
2………
3……….

Analysis: Analysis for issues 1:…………….
Analysis for issues 2……………..
Analysis for issues 3……………….
