Auditing

Requirements:

  1. Describe why the role of audit committees has increased over time. Refer to 4 refereed journal articles to support your answer.
  2. Compare and contrast the corporate governance principles in the USA and Australia in relation to the structure, independence and role of an audit committee.
  3. From the period of global financial crisis during 2007-2012, select four Australian companies as follows: one insolvent company, one companythat issued financial reports with an unmodified audit opinion, and two other companies with their auditor’s opinion highlighting going concern issues. Answer the following questions:

i)               Describe the structure and independence of the audit committees in the companies selected in 3) above.

ii)             Using financial ratios, analyse the risk and performance of these companies and draw conclusions on the continuity of these companies.

iii)           Critically examine and report whether the independence and activisms of the audit committees had potential impact on the auditor’s opinionas to continuity of the selected companies.

DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

TASKS

  1. Design of digital filters to remove/reduce un-wanted noise from a desired signal.

a)     Provide pertinent summary of the basic principles behind ECG monitoring

 

( Maximum 1000 words only)

b)     Using MATLAB, provide plots of the “clean” and “noisy” ECG signals. Investigate the spectral estimation of the clean and noisy signals, using MATLAB code and SPTOOL, Discuss fully the results and conclusions that you reach.

 

c)     Using your findings in Q1 (b), design  FIR filters.

i)     The following equation , is an approximation of an impulse response for a FIR filter. Using MATLAB coding design a FIR filter, with the Hamming window applied to its coefficients. Once you are satisfied with your design, using convolution apply your filter to the noisy ECG signal.

ii)    Using your findings in Q1(a) and Q1(b),  design appropriate FIR filters in SPTOOL.  Apply each appropriate filter design to the noisy signal, to allow comparison of the result in Q1(c)(i).

iii)   Compare and contrast your results.

d)     Using SPTOOL, design an IIR digital filter and compare the performance  to the FIR filters designed in Q1(c)

  1. FILTER IMPLEMENTATION ON TMS320VC5510DSK

a)     Using the coefficients obtained for the noisy signal and the FIR filter in Q1(c)(i) implement  on the TMS320VC5510DSK. You can use and modify any of the files provided in the Board Support Library (BSL) or with Code Composer Studio (CCS).

b)     Discuss the methodology for implementation and your understanding on ‘real-time’ DSP.
