Mary Eliza Church Terrell was an early feminist and social activist who strongly fought for women’s civil rights and suffrage for African Americans. From Terrell’s experience of struggling with racism at an early age during the 1800’s she fought for freedoms in her adulthood that Negro women during this time could not imagine to be established. Through her activism she has become an educator, lecturer, and major influence to significant freedoms African American women have in society today.
