In the book “Law’s empire” Ronald Dworkin defends an interpretive approach to law, employing constructive interpretation, which he calls Law as integrity. Explain how he understands Law as integrity and discuss its implications, if any, for the debate between legal positivism and natural law.

Medical

Lisa is a right-handed woman in her mid-fifties who has recently suffered from a
cerebrovascular accident (CVA). This has left her with a right-sided hemiparesis and
significant language issues.
During the first week after her CVA, Lisa was unable to utter more than single words. This was
incredibly frustrating for her, but she was able to communicate using Scrabble tiles (she
could spell out no grammatical and misspelled sentences of three or four words). She
appeared to understand what was being said to her, and her communications did answer
inquiries.
Over the next few weeks, her speech improved slightly. She was able to articulate short
sentences with a few function words, and her prosody was lacking. She could, however,
repeat simple sentences spoken to her.
When Lisa was shown the picture below and asked to describe it, she said “Cookie jar……fall
over…….chair…….water……empty….”

Democracy

Choice #1

Write the “new (alternative) narrative” for democracy. Into the “Athenian Narrative” insert other stories and moments in which important “democratic” mechanisms are observed. Shape that narrative to include persons, plots and outcomes that will help us be prepared for democracy in the 21st century. Include such themes and motifs as equality, inclusion/exclusion, justice, authority, power and freedom, etc. Make references to our readings, lectures and discussions.

Or alternatively, think “DEMOCRACY, the movie” (or play, as they are similar in dramatic structure.)

Think of the characters and plots, events and institutions. Could you tell the story using the several smaller stories we have referenced this semester. Think in terms of plot, figures (our authors), ideas (from the reading) arranged into beginning, middle, and end scenes. Is the outcome tragic (the hero, democracy is defeated (bad outcome) or comic, the (hero, democracy) succeeds (good outcome). Include dialogue, trace themes, explain decisions, link events…creatively.

In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson wrote: “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Write an essay discussing both the sources of and the consequences of these words. Describe the contexts of the Declaration. Where in the “Athenian narrative” does this claim fit? What alternative “voices” tell stories or raise questions that challenge the universal promises made in these words. What critique would you bring to these ideas after reading the assignments in The Secret Histories…? What do these “truths” mean for us as citizens today within the diversities of contemporary global society? Are these “universal” truths? How might they be practiced today?

Turnaround Management, Spare Parts Management, Maintenance Documentation Systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems

At the direction of the newly appointed head of maintenance, you have been tasked with development of a detailed report to inform the new manager of the current policies, processes and problems in the organisation in the four areas of Turnaround Management, Spare Parts Management, Maintenance Documentation Systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems. The new manager has provided the following as the key aspects that need to be covered by the report:
1. Turnaround management
(a) Analyse and describe what occurs in the organisation for the different phases of a major shutdown activity, with particular emphasis on the following:

iii. Identification and discussion of three (3) improvements to the CMMS system/s, with consideration of what needs to be improved, why it needs to be improved and the benefit of the improvement.
