Folklorists often study local or regional cultures. (The Stewart and Meyer readings are by folklorists) Then you have some historians, sometimes oral historians, who deal with local histories of people, and some environmental historians who study local histories of nature. What do you make of all these interrelationships? local cultures in historical context, local histories of cultures, local nature, local people, and local culture? How do identities come into play in all this? Individuals can be said to have personal identities, groups of people to have cultural identities, and even places to have identities of their own? How might we relate all these?

Thesis and Source List for Final Essay For this assignment, you are to choose a topic for the final essay, create three viable thesis statements, and provide three scholarly secondary sources with which to begin your writing. The topics from which you may choose are listed below. This assignment should apply the following:

Write three viable thesis statements that contain both the argument you will make for your topic and the evidentiary support (literary elements) that you will use.
Demonstrate an ability to conduct research by presenting three scholarly secondary sources on your topic of choice. You will find that your research will help you to formulate your thesis.

1. Susan Glaspell and Eugene O’Neill are credited with the creation of an authentic American drama. (McMichael & Leonard, 2011, p. 1708). Choose from The Hairy Ape and create a well-written essay arguing how the story or characters in the play are authentic to the American experience. What aspect of the American experience do they portray? You need only choose one aspect and argue it well with examples from the play. Creating a Viable Thesis
The thesis will tell your reader what to expect in your essay. Keep in mind, your arguments in your essay must center on the literature you are studying. Rather than use a biographical focus, your essay must explore literary elements.

Your Assignment must be in APA format and must:

Include three viable thesis statements.
Provide three scholarly secondary sources in proper APA style.
Be formatted according to APA style, 6th edition.
Include a title and reference pages.

Write an essay on numbers 1& 3 . Each should be answered separately in the form of essay including introduction, body part and conclusion.

After reading the case study thoroughly, write a three to four page paper with your analysis of the problem, your conclusions of the cause and your suggestions for how to prevent this from occurring on other similar incidents. The following discussion points should assist you:
What factors/operations contributed to this incident?
As the safety and health program manager, what recommendations would you make in order to prevent similar incidents?
What standards and regulation, if any apply to these types of operations?
All case study reports must comply with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 6th. Ed. for writing conventions, organization, and formatting.

This assignment involves submitting two drafts of the paper. The requirements for the first draft and the second draft are the same. First draft must include all the components of the assignment. It has to be prepared after conducting your observation.
“Service Encounters” project is modeled on Bailey’s research presented in his paper, “Communication of Respect in Interethnic Service Encounters,” which you can find in the “Readings”folderunder“content”onBBLearn.Re—readtheBailey’spaperbeforestarting the project.
Maximum credit available for the first draft is 40 points. Any points over 40 points allowed for the first draft will be credited as bonus points. Maximum credit available for the final draft is 50 points. In order to be graded, the paper needs to be edited for clarity and grammatical and typographic errors. The project involves following steps:
(1) Conduct careful observation of “service encounter” type of interactions in a real world setting
Select a setting such as convenience store, cafeteria or Starbucks, open to the public. Select time when there is not much traffic so that people are not too rushed. Observe and describe in your notes four interactions between the attendant and customer. At
least three of the conversations should involve either the customer or the service person introducing a topic not directly related to the business transaction at hand, such as in these hypothetical exchanges:

(2) Take detailed notes of your observation.
Like in Bailey’s research, your most important data will be your conversation data. Write down in as much detail as you can the exact words that people use in talking to each other. Also, describe people participating in the conversation (age, gender, anything else you notice)
(3) Conduct Conversation Analysis
Your analysis will address conversational uptakes on topics not directly related to the business transaction and introduced in the service encounter interactions data from your research.
Uptake: a follow up on the topic introduced by another person. An uptake is a conversational tool that helps to create conversation as a collaborative project. In doing so, it mainly serves a phatic communicative function; that is, the maintenance of social relationship between people who participate in communicative event.
To illustrate: in the EXAMPLE I above, the attendant did not offer an uptake on the customer’s inquiry, “I haven’t seen you for a while?” in line 2. In contrast, in the EXAMPLE II, the attendant did offer an uptake in line 3, by saying “I know, I went to see my boyfriend in Hawaii,” followed by the customer’s uptake, “That’s great. Good to have you back, though” (line 4) and further, by the attendant’s next uptake, “I’m glad to be back, too.”
In the analysis of your conversational data, identify statements that invite an uptake and assess whether an uptake has taken place.
