Environmental Problem and Solution
Paper details

This final essay is all about choosing a problem that is connected to the environment and posing a solution or solutions.

For the problem, be sure to:

Describe and define the problem. Be sure to define the geographic area that you are talking about (the whole world, in one country, in the deserts, along the coastlines, in urban areas, etc…)

Discuss different aspects of the problem. “Who” or “what” does it effect? (People, animals, groundwater, agricultural production, etc…) Describe the effects of the problem on the “who”, and the “what”. How significant are the problems to the “who” and the “what”?

Use data or statistics to help give a clear picture of the problem.

For the solution or solutions, be sure to:

Discuss possible solutions, weighing the different factors that would effect the “who” and the “what”.

Evaluate your solution – is it a solution that is realistic? Will it cost a lot of money? Will it take a lot of time? What role should individuals, governments and business play in the solution to the problem?

Internal and External Consulting.

Choosing a work environment with which you are familiar, you are required to select an issue of concern to the business – it could be a business issue, resource, people, etc. – to which you believe you can make a contribution in helping to resolve by way of an internal consulting assignment.

You are required to write, in a professional format, a proposal for the Manager / Client which addresses the following:

The Power of Connection

To prepare: Consider new ways in which you might use technology to foster new connections and seek information and advice.

Your paper should include the following:
•Text you might include in a professional profile, which you could use on a social media site (like Twitter, or LinkedIn) to identify yourself and your interests for those who might be interested in following you or joining your PLN
•Annotated list of five people or groups in which you might find people to add to your PLN (through their Twitter feed, blog, or LinkedIn page, etc.) ◦For each person or group, give a brief (1–2 paragraphs) rationale for why you would include the person or group in your PLN.
◦Then, give a 1- to 2-paragraph description of the process by which you found the person or group you added to your PLN. 1. Module 02 Discussion – Locate a Local Current Event Article Demonstrating an Ethical Dilemma and Discuss
Search for a current event (within the last year) within your community. For your initial post, identify the fact that creates an ethical issue, state what value or ethical concern is involved, and conclude how the issues should be resolved; all without a specific philosophy involved. 2. Week 02 Discussion – Mineral Properties
Geologists use the minerals present in a rock to identify not only the type of rock (igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic) but also the specific name of the rock (for example, granite, chert, amphibolite). Of the many physical properties that geologists use to identify minerals in the field, choose one that you think would be the most useful. (Refer to your reading for the week and your explorations at the Smithsonian website.) Share your choice and your reasoning behind this selection to try and convince your classmates of your choice.

In this junior seminar, you are reviewing and exploring information literacy. The earlier seminar courses that you may have taken have had as their focus communication and critical thinking. For this week’s discussion posting,
1. In two or three sentences, please summarize what you have learned about information literacy so far in your earlier courses and in this seminar.
2. Then explain how information literacy is a set of skills that builds or relies upon an expansion of communication and critical thinking skills. In other words, why are communication and critical thinking concepts needed for good information literacy? For example, if good information literacy includes the ability to integrate materials from external sources into a persuasive paper that you are writing to an audience, how does good communication enhance that? About the topic: Loyalty is a major theme in “The Wanderer,” but that also makes a statement like “loyalty is important to the Wanderer’s Anglo-Saxon culture” fairly obvious (and a thesis should not be obvious). So, make sure what argument might you say about how loyalty works in the poem?

Population growth in Australia

The task: Population growth is widely seen as desirable for economic growth. This simple “bigger is better” philosophy underpins the argument for a big Australia fuelled by immigration and championed by many politicians and business leaders. But while Australia is large geographically, its long-term carrying capacity is estimated to be around 8 to 12 million people. Write an essay that critically evaluates the effect of Australia’s growing population and urban sprawl on “water resources”. You may find it helpful to present your arguments through a case study approach. Note: The essay should be 2000 words in length. Illustrate your essay with graphs, maps, tables and diagrams as appropriate. Please either draft your own figures or modify maps and diagrams to suit your essay (if you are modifying don’t forget to reference the original source) – try to avoid simply copying other people’s maps or figures. Copied illustrations do little to enhance the work. Illustrations should be inserted electronically. (Note: if you wish to use the colour maps distributed in practical’s to illustrate aspects of your report, that’s fine; there is no need to redraw them). Your essay should be prepared in a logical and well-structured format, with headings and subheadings as necessary. The essay should be typed/printed in size 12 prints on plain white A4 paper and both sides of the page should be used. Try to develop argument/explanation based on information, which you research from the relevant literature. It is important that you develop the skill of critical analysis of the literature, followed by development of your synthesis, and by presentation of your argument in a reasoned and clear manner.

Organizational analysis: framing

Choose a current event (e.g.,CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, etc.) and discuss how it is being “framed” by the media, stakeholders, or others. Consider the following:
– What message is being delivered?
– What specific language, words, metaphors, or images are being used in the story to help support this framing?
– Who do you think the “audience” that will best receive this framing? What “audience” would receive it the worst/ tend to disagree with it?
– How does the “framing” affect or change the event/ information?
– What are the potential implications of framing the story (e.g. about conflict) in this way or in a completely different way?
– Give an examples of how else the event could be framed. How would that change the message? (be specific. For instance, what words metaphors, or images would you use.)
