Create the basics of your OE system based SOLELY on ideas from Thedacare and Virginia Mason

Create the basics of your OE system based SOLELY on what you’ve read so far. Don’t try to put what you know in there. Synthesize the ideas from Thedacare and Virginia Mason to come up with what YOU think the best of the two – at that point in time – would be. If you choose to use additional sources, make sure they are dated before 2005. 3-4 pages.

Notes to uses while writing paper:
Remember that he differentiated between “best practices” and “best ideas” when you’re writing the paper.
The things we came up with included:

1. Sensai – see THEDACARE article for their use of this coach/mentor

2. Go-and-see – remember that TC went to Ariens Outdoor in Wisconsin for this, while VMMC traveled to Hitachi in Japan

3. Facilitators – TC talked about having facilitators to make their organization a “learning organization” with a continuous education and training program….these facilitators would be cycled through training and sent back into the organization, spreading the new knowledge throughout the company and applying as they learned

4. Physician Compact – this was huge for VMMC….aligning the goals of the physicians with those of the health care delivery organization (and vice versa) would be a great influence on quality and productivity

5. Underlying Philosophy – the core of the system needs to be the underlying philosophy, not the tools….the organization should be getting people on board by walking the talk, using jidoka & heijunka & kaizen, removing waste and improving their processes (SEE VMMC)

6. Rapid Improvement Events – TC discussed these events…using these to teach about problem solving, value stream mapping, etc, for continuous improvement purposes

7. No-Layoff Policy – both VMMC and TC had these in place…I think Going Lean in Health Care talked about this the most, but you’ll find it in the VMMC and TC articles as well

8. Transparent Leadership – openness and honesty from leadership will build consensus and commitment from all levels of the organization (SEE VMMC)

9. Improvement Goals – you have to set goals and have something to work toward…note that TC was setting and measuring financial goals, VMMC’s goals were geared more toward process and safety improvement

10. Bundles – we kind of added this last minute…something about standard work and patient safety and health?

Discuss on the importance of creating readiness for changing culture and not just focusing on monetary improvements

New OE System
Paper details

Oh No: We Have to Make Another OE System
Obviously, at this point, you can tell that Virgina Mason and Thedacare have started to evolve and change their minds about “what you need to do…”. In your opinion what changed? What did these two leaders learn? If you had to build a new OE system, what would you do?

Notes to use while writing paper:
What changed?:
-Focus shifted from the OE tool kit to a total, complete system (holistic change)
-New emphasis on daily problem solving and quality of leadership

What did they learn?:
-It is about changing culture and not just focusing on monetary improvements
-What they were doing was not enough
-The importance of creating readiness for change (urgency, openness, not everyone can come along)

New pieces of the system?:
-Holistic change-not just the tools
-Daily management system-changing the daily experience, everyone problem solving every day
-Leadership behavior-go to the gemba, shadow example, quality leadership
-Transformation-readiness to transform into a target condition
-Continuous improvement-goal setting and problem solving
-Ideal situation-reward value, not volum

Choose one of the ancient Greek philosophers (Socrates, Plato, or Aristotle) and one of the modern European philosophers or protopsychologists (Descartes, Locke, or Hume). Write a diary page (500-word maximum) from each of these gentlemen that discusses a central theme in their respective beliefs.

Let us assume that Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Locke, and Hume kept daily diaries of their thoughts. Be creative, but stay factual.

Make sure that you evaluate the points of view or central themes you have identified for each of the two philosophers you have chosen. Include material that illustrates the culture and time period in which they lived. Analyze the influences of social and cultural conditions on the philosophers. Describe how the different perspectives from the different time periods led to distinctive beliefs about social issues.

Isoniazid vs Isoniazid-Rifapentine in treating latent tuberculosis.

Select a health topic of interest to you that is relevant to your current area of practice. The topic may be your Course Portfolio Project or a different topic of your choice.

Using the Walden Library, locate two articles in scholarly journals that deal with your portfolio topic: 1) Select one article that utilizes a quantitative research design and 2) select a second article that utilizes either a qualitative OR a mixed methods design. These need to be single studies not systematic or integrative reviews (including meta-analysis and metasynthesis). You may use research articles from your reference list. If you cannot find these two types of research on your portfolio topic, you may choose another topic.

Locate the following documents in this week’s Learning Resources to access the appropriate templates, which will guide your critique of each article:
Critique Template for a Qualitative Study
Critique Template for a Quantitative Study
Critique Template for a Mixed-Methods Study
Consider the fields in the templates as you review the information in each article.
Begin to draft a paper in which you analyze the two research approaches as indicated below.

Reflect on the overall value of both quantitative and qualitative research. If someone were to say to you, “Qualitative research is not real science,” how would you respond?

To complete this Assignment:
Complete the two critiques using the appropriate templates.
Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:
Contrast the types of information that you gained from examining the two different research approaches in the articles that you selected.
Describe the general advantages and disadvantages of the two research approaches featured in the articles. Use examples from the articles for support.
Formulate a response to the claim that qualitative research is not real science. Highlight the general insights that both quantitative and qualitative studies can provide to researchers. Support your response with references to the Learning Resources and other credible sources.
As you complete this Assignment, remember to:

Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The School of Nursing Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available from the Walden University website found in this week’s Learning Resources). All papers submitted must use this formatting.

Combine all three parts of this assignment into one Word document including both critique templates and the narrative with your references. Submit this combined document.

Identity Development IN TRAUMA INFORMED SOCIAL WORK

Details: LABEL AND ANSWER THE % QUESTIONS BELOW: Individuals who have experienced trauma have often needed to develop “other directedness” as a survival behavior and therefore have had limited energy to focus on building their own identity. As discussed in Briere Chapter 9, they may have difficulties in the following areas: Determining own needs or entitlements Maintaining a consistent sense of self in the context of strong emotions or the presence of compelling others. Have an internal reference point in times of stress. Predicting one’s own reactions or behavior in various situations. Being one’s “own best friend”, having direct access to a positive sense of self. Identity is a key developmental process involving the growth of a sense of self, an understanding of who we are as unique individuals, and later the formation of a coherent identity.Select one of the tools described in the above and use it with a child/adolescent or adult on your caseload. Develop a brief report to post on Discussion Board. Answer the following questions. 1. Describe the individual’s developmental status; where is he/she in the development of a sense of self. 2. Describe the tool that you have chosen to use with the individual. Why did you choose this particular tool? 3. Describe your experience of using this tool with the client. Upload a photo, or other artifact that demonstrates your effort. (Make sure that the client is not identifiable in any way in this artifact. What came out of your work together? How easy / difficult was it for you to use this tool? 4. How might you use this tool in the future?———————————————————————————————————————————————————————– EXAMPLE: Describe the individual’s developmental status; where is he/she in the development of a sense of self. Describe the tool that you have chosen to use with the individual. Why did you choose this particular tool? ◦ Cumulative harm can overwhelm the most resilient child and particular attention needs to be given to understanding the complexity of the child’s experience. These children require calm, patient, safe and nurturing parenting in order to recover, and may well require a multi-systemic response to engage the required services to assist(Australia, 2014). When I am working with children to prepare them for adoption I use life books with them. This helps them to see where they have been and where they are now. We go around and take pictures of their houses they have lived in, the schools they have attended, and get the names of their caretakers. It also helps them to realize through their story that being in care is not their fault. It helps to begin the healing process as they realize why their family of origin is not able to care for them. ◦ Describe your experience of using this tool with the client. Upload a photo, or other artifact that demonstrates your effort. (Make sure that the client is not identifiable in any way in this artifact. What came out of your work together? How easy / difficult was it for you to use this tool? Depending on the child it has gone well and it has been difficult. I have a young lady who was homeless at the time of her removal. She and her eight siblings were living in car with her mother. Her brother mysteriously broke his leg. One of her sisters took him to the hospital. When the mother arrived she tried to take him home AMA (against medical advice) and CPS was notified. We removed all of the children upon learning they were homeless and multiple medical issues and lack of schooling to name a few. To this day this particular young lady will not go there with me. She insists she was not homeless and her mother provided for her. ~We are not allowed to take pictures of our children and the book has their name on it so I was not able to upload a picture. How might you use this tool in the future? I will continue to use this tool while working with children as I prepare them for adoption. I think it is very useful and goes a long way in helping them to begin the healing process. When one uses a life book properly can be an instrument for helping a child improving their ability to see themselves in a positive way or have a sense of a positive identity Bibliography Australia, G. o. (2014). Child Development and Trauma Guide . Retrieved from Child Development and Trauma Guide : www.dcp.wa.gov.au ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-EXAMPLE: The client I chose is a 15 year old female who struggles with her identity. She will go through stages where she will dress feminine for a time and then switch to a more typically masculine look. She is quick to change to dressing as the other sex if she receives a comment about her dress that she perceives as negative. She also struggles with attention seeking. She will often seek negative attention through her actions such as leaving the building without permission in order to get staff to follow her. She has also mentioned frequently that she does not deserve to be loved. The tool that I chose to use with this client is supporting self-validity foundin Briere & Scott (2013). I chose this tool because it fits in where the client is struggling currently. The client is trying to validate her needs and views. As staff working with her it is easy to focus on her behaviors, not the reasoning behind the behaviors. By supporting self-validity in the client her feelings are validated, without validating the negative behaviors such as attention seeking. I thought it was easy to use the tool of supporting self-validity with this particular client. The client was able to address her negative behaviors and recognize she acts out to seek out attention. During our conversation I was able to validate why the client seeks out negative behaviors. In this case to seek out attention. The client was able to recognize that there are different behaviors she can do to receive positive attention. I see myself as using the tool supporting self-validity with future clients. In more of a counseling role, I may focus on validating the way a client feels about themselves while encouraging the client to be open to changing negative behaviors they display. In this way I will validate their feelings behind their negative behaviors. Reference: Briere, J. N. & Scott, C. (2013).
