In this module and the next, you will be writing a persuasive essay about “Women in Politics.” I will provide you with a thesis that you will have to prove using the sources that I have also provided (I HAVE INCLUDED THE SOURCES I EXPECT YOU TO USE IN ATTACHMENTS ABOVE AND IN THE LINKS I HAVE POSTED). All of you have written persuasive essays before, but as a refresher, I have downloaded a great chapter reviewing the process. The essay will be approximately three to five pages. It will follow all the standard submission rules: 12pt. font; Times New Roman; double spacing; one inch margins.

Read the Applying What You Have Learned Scenario on p. 256 of Juvenile Delinquency: The Core.

Create a slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation on the advantages and disadvantages of the three drug control policy strategies presented during the open hearing in the scenario. Assume the role of the drug czar in the presentation. Present the policy or policies that you believe are the best strategies for reducing youth drug use.

8. In what way has the prosecutorial role of juveniles changed over the last several decades?
9. In the arenas of the intake process, the decision to waive a juvenile to adult court, and the decision on disposition by a judge, what are the common and normal legal and extralegal factors that are analyzed and taken into account for the decisions made?
10. What do you see as the single most concerning problem/issue in the juvenile justice system? Why?

The optional paper should be 3-5 (single space) pages long and should follow the structure indicated below. The paper should focus on one environmental problem – either a public good or an externality problem – for which, so far, no solution had been found. You should explain precisely why the example you choose is an environmental problem, using economic insight and your knowledge from the course. Once you have identified the causes of the problem, you should come up with two potential solutions, which can be regulations or cooperative solutions. You should discuss the pros and the cons of these solutions that you come up with. Finally, you should conclude by addressing why these solutions you identified had not been implemented.

There are various views on who is responsible for the atrocities committed during the course of human history. Stuart Sutherland, for example, claims that the tendency to obey and conform is the explanation for why so many otherwise decent people have committed atrocities in human history. Stanley Milgram asserts that the essence of all atrocious acts occurs when the people committing them no longer consider themselves responsible for their actions. There are also many theories, which classify how power is used by political leaders. While Charles G. Lord has delineated how strategies for the effective use of power have been used benignly, Aldous Huxley and Ron Jones have focused on occurrences of the systematic abuse of power. Reflect on the articles we have read during the course to see different viewpoints on these issues and write an essay.

1. Describe/summarize two works of art viewed. List the title of the work(s) viewed, the name of the artist(s), and the year the works were created.
