In Project 1: We thought about what we know, what it means to know, and of how we learn and use what we know. We narrated how this concept operates within our lives and told our stories of learning. We practiced narrative writing, flow, and detail description.
In Project 2: We considered how literacy connects with culture, questioning an artifact for meaning. We practiced analysis, inquiry, and explanation, as well as working together on shared and common goals.
In Project 3: We saw that writing, literacy, and the use of information is different in every discipline. We did research— practiced synthesizing outside source information with our own insights and asked further questions, perhaps even the big question— “What do I want to discover?” —from which virtually all actual, real-world research derives.
Now, we turn to form and delivery of writing content. In Project 4: the Remix, we’ll seek experience with how the presentation and reception of information can change across the boundaries of purpose and delivery. We will consider what written information actually is and the ways in which it is presented. We will study forms and manners of presenting information through both written and visual means. We will study how information is created, edited, and packaged. In so doing, we’ll learn the very important and very portable skill of adapting information—of editing—and we’ll both see and hear the results of the process of editing: developmental change in your ‘texts,’ as well as yourselves.
THE PROJECT:
This project asks you to revisit yourselves as writers and to revisit some of the work you’ve done this semester in the context of what you’ve learned and what we’ve discussed. You’ll continue to develop your understanding of the values and practices of literacy and masculinity by exploring how information exchange works in contexts other than the essay or purely paragraph-oriented forms. You’ll learn more about the relationships between different sorts of ‘texts’ and their communicative effects.
That means:
• You’ll create a new product which explains your interactions with literacies in a new medium.
• The content will come from your work in the Learning Memoir, Cultural Artifact Analysis, and/or Disciplinary Literacies projects, but the format will be up to you.
You might create a short video, a website, a graphical representation (brochure, poster, etc.), a photo essay, a PowerPoint presentation, an artistic project, or perhaps something even more unconventional.
The final product can be almost anything which draws from and expands your writing skills using your earlier project content, content available which you can repurpose, and your own new, original material.
• At the end of the Project, you’ll also complete a Writer’s Reflection of approximately two pages in length which will count as a significant portion of your grade (50%). This should explain in your own words the process of creating your project and use your RAIDS analysis guide from the start of the semester to answer these questions:
• How did you Invent material for this project? (How/where did you get your material?)
• Why did you choose the Arrangement that you did, what was it? (What way did you organize your project, and why did you organize your project this way?)

Introduction
Pollution is one of the environmental concepts that have existed for a long time, both in the modern and early societies. However, the rate at which this epidemic has rocked the contemporary society is relatively higher when compared to the earlier days. The reason for the increase is due to advancement in technology consequently providing a platform on which more pollutants are created. Different areas have different levels of pollution. However, first world countries are the worst hit. Going through the issue of pollution in the United States is one of the most effective ways through which an individual can understand the issue.
History of Pollution in the United States
In early days, conventional methods of cooking and power generation did not exist. One of the means through which people in the United States used to generate power is through the burning of wood and coal. This method made survival rather difficult because all the smoke from these processes made it almost impossible to live healthy lives. Water was also contaminated and this brought about diseases, since people and animals used to share the same water for drinking and other uses. These problems led to the construction of sewerage systems. Despite the widespread pollution at the time, it is imperative to note that the birth of modern day pollution was because of the revolutionized industries. These industries in the country produced a lot of fumes and waste material that affected the lives of people.
Forms of Pollution
There exists different forms of pollution in the United States. The most common form of this is air pollution. Another type of pollution present in the country is water pollution. Soil and noise pollution are the third and fourth major forms of pollution respectively (Richards 31). There exists other forms of pollution such as light and visual pollution but these are not widespread as the ones mentioned above.
Sources and Causes of Pollution
Air pollution is the major cause of pollution in the United States. Los Angeles receives negative recognition as the area with the most contaminated air in the United States. Los Angeles holds around 18 million people and the area is a business hub. This means that most people in the area head to work using motor vehicles that pollute the air through the gases produced by the exhaust. The area also holds many companies that have their associated manufacturing and processing firms in the vicinity. These firms produce a lot of gaseous waste through the processes taking place in the area.
Miami Beach in Florida has the highest rates of water pollution. The fact that the area is close to the Atlantic Ocean and has most of the businesses and companies in the field of hospitality means that there are very many hotels (Shiva 64). These hotels are located near the ocean and thus results in a lot of dumping to the ocean. Houston in Texas gains negative recognition as the area with the highest level of soil pollution. The cause of this pollution is the fact that the area engages in soil related businesses such as farming and oil drilling, consequently affecting the state of the soil making it impure.
Effects of Pollution in the United States
Pollution has many effects in the United States. One of the outright effects of pollution is pure health. The health of many people in the country is in jeopardy due to pollution and this ought to receive recognition by the government (Sokhi 125). The United States has had quality business performance in the modern contemporary society. The main reason for this is the ability of these people to incorporate high levels of hard work in their ventures. Health is critical for the running of effective businesses and the air pollution caused by people works negatively towards the achievement of this goal. Air pollution leads to unhealthy people that do not have the ability to offer quality work. Consequently, the United States fails to achieve its goals and other countries with quality pollution controls get more people offering substantial hard work.
Another effect of this pollution is on the level of income the country gets from tourists. The United States records some of the highest numbers of tourists during holidays. The reason for this is the ability of the country to offer quality accommodation and experience to the visitors. However, if the country continues recording high levels of pollution, people will fail to visit the country, citing fear for their health. With pollution, the Ozone layer becomes permeable in the specific areas carrying out pollution related activities and the consequence is increased penetration of sunrays that consequently lead to the drying of rivers and lakes leading to reduced availability of water.
Conclusion
Pollution is a concept that has existed in many different societies. However, the United States is one of the areas greatly affected by pollution. Many areas in the country have varying types of pollution. However, the effects are detrimental altogether and understanding responsibility when dealing with pollutants assists in the reduction of this.

The Importance of Being Earnest is one of the most celebrated works of renowned playwright Oscar Wilde. The performance of this play was first done on February 14, 1895. The play received worldwide acclamation from the message that it sought to send. Critics have condemned the play stating that it does not offer the viewer quality lessons regarding some of the contemporary issues in society. However, this is not correct considering the play focuses on some of the critical issues affecting society such as marriage and discusses the roles of various family members in ensuring that the institution continues functioning appropriately.
The play was quite informative and influential taking into consideration the author discusses various issues and confidently supports this by developing characters that represent real life situations. In the play, the characters have different responsibilities. One of the most interesting characters is Ernest and the fact that he lives a double life makes his character in the play even more fascinating.
The character of Ernest impressed me the most in the play from the fact that he had the ability to change in relation to the environment that he dwelled. Moreover, different situations had this character changing his means of doing things. The play aims at having the viewers understand that marriage is a very critical institution that ought to receive recognition and appreciation. Despite the fact that Algernon was already married to a beautiful young woman who appreciated and offered gifts to him, he still wanted to have another romantic affair. This romantic affair is seen from the proposal that he makes to Algernon’s cousin (Wilde 72). However, his plan fails for he is identified to live a double life. The play is quite effective in portraying the important the marriage institution.

The End of America, an adaptation of The End of America: a Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot by Naomi Wolff. It is a documentary that tracks the erosion of civil liberties in America in the aftermath of 9/11. The title is a metaphorical one in the sense that it focuses on the fact that America is losing its ‘soul’, the civil liberties, and individual rights that formed the foundation for its establishment. In this respect, the documentary involves interviews with the victims of this new trend in America and experts, which run alongside excerpts of Ms. Wolf’s lecture in New York as well as interviews as she illustrates her view of a ‘Blueprint’ for dictatorships.
The documentary also cites several examples and incidences in support of the assertions within it. These include the Patriot Act of 2001 and its provisions as well as how they trampled on individual liberties. For example, the Act gave law enforcement agencies more powers of surveillance. According to the documentary, without explicitly stating it, this Act gave law enforcement agencies the freedom to do almost anything in the name of keeping Americans safe. The documentary, like the book, also goes on to detail the ten steps by which the country has increasingly shifted towards a more authoritarian rule. Some of the steps include the creation of secret prisons by the government in which it detains suspects without trial, the development of a system of internal surveillance and the deployment of a paramilitary force, among others.
The documentary seems to be a provocateur that seeks to mobilize voice calling on Americans to rise against this trend. Indeed, part of the book titled A Citizen’s Call to Action (Wolf 1). In this respect, it aims to stir the emotions of Americans. The documentary uses a clever strategy in this regard. It opens with the sights of the America of traditional expectations, citing people’s admiration and capturing the Statue of Liberty that signifies America’s freedom and opportunities. To stir the emotions of the viewers, it juxtaposed with the disturbing cases of several people, which does help the story’s intentions. Some of these people include James Yee, a chaplain for the United States Army at Guantanamo, who was detained in solitary confinement for 76 hours. Maher Arar, a Canadian of Syrian descent telecommunications engineer, was detained at Kennedy International Airport and later transferred to Syria where he underwent torture for a year on charges of terrorism. The documentary closes with a stern warning that the next thing might just be an imposition of martial law.

In his essay, Resort for Fear, for instance, Chomsky (3) does agree that systems of power have always used fear to discipline its subjects and cites several examples. Primarily, the documentary implies that the US is only trying to curb terrorism within its borders through fear as a deterrent factor. Indeed, many governments have used the same tactic to rule over their subjects. Russia, for example, silences the opposition as well as the intellectual with assassinations and threat of imprisonment with hard labor (Stallard 1). Indeed, fear as a form of strategy to rule is standard for authoritarian governments (Wolf 13). The documentary’s assertion that America is losing its democracy finds support in the arguments of Murherji (7).

The revelations of Snowden on the National Security Agency (NSA) tapping into private phones of the US public (Burrough et al. 1) do confirm that this assertion. This new trend is almost like the extreme surveillance that George Orwell described in his book, 1984, the story of a government that watched over and controlled its citizens through fear. The level of surveillance manages to provoke fear in the hearts of the citizens.
In the end, these arguments remain valid. Authoritarian governments have always used these strategies to rule over their citizens (Murherji 9). Although the United States is not necessarily a full-blown authoritarian regime, it already does exhibit elements of such rule. In other words, it may not have come to the end as the documentary makes it seem, but it should be on its way.

As a child, I had the desire of pursuing a career in science and particularly health sciences. Over time, the desire grew leading to explorations that made studies in science at school an enjoyable experience. As a beginner, I went the extra mile of undertaking duties that paved the way for enrollment in one of the leading junior school in the neighborhood. For the period at the institution, I vested interest in studying science as the favorite subject. Afterward, I learned the various aspects of the subject that differentiate it from other disciplines. On the completion of the curricular, I shifted focus to studying social sciences and related disciplines that were instrumental in advancing a career in health sciences. I settled for biology as the subject of preference among other sciences. Together with my language skills, the exploration of various aspects of the discipline such as studying human anatomy proved enjoyable since the study prepared me for a career in the healthcare. After some time, I was in a position to fulfill the goal of attending the institution by scoring highly at the end of the term in exams. The outcome marked the beginning of a journey to becoming a physician.
At present, I intend to join a medical school preferably a university in the US because enrollment in the country will offer an opportunity to explore various aspects of the healthcare operations. Considering serving as a physician is always my passion, I intend to capitalize on the skills gained in high school while studying biology among many other social sciences. Being an upcoming professional, learning about the various aspects of patient care will prove critical in enhancing my career as a physician. In particular, the skills will enable me to cope with the ever-increasing demands of the healthcare professions. I will also use the competency to improve the standards of service delivery in the community.
