I was going to go in with the critique and argument of either Pollock, or Rothko, probably Pollock, as been widely considered successful and safe, because it was considered innovative, yet was safe and almost hypocrtical, with it being open to interpretation and less confrotational, more what the viewer gets from the work. Since then it has been easier for the elite to support it and abstraction / modernism.
