Museum Paper Instruction
This paper is based on your viewing experience of one work of art from the period of time: Paleolithic through the 4th c. A.D.e.g:
1/ Paleolithic art and Neolithic art

2/ ancient Near Eastern art, Sumerian Art, Akkadian, Neo-Sumerian, Babylonian, and Hittite Art, Middle Elamite and Assyrian Art, Neo-Babylonian, Achaemenid Persian, and Sasanian Art

3/ Early Dynastic to New Kingdom periods art

4/ Cycladic, Minoan, and Mycenaean art and architecture

5/ Geometric, Orientalizing, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic period art.

6/ Orientalizing Art, Classical and Hellenistic Art

7/ Roman art and architecture of the Republican and Early, High, and Late Imperial periods.
You may select a piece from the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, or the L.A. County Museum in Los Angeles.
Expect to spend a good deal of time in front of the piece you select, thinking and taking notes. You will, in fact, be doing the “research” for the paper in front of the work of art. Plan accordingly and take extensive notes.
The object of the paper is to take the skills and information you have been acquiring in the course and apply them to museum works.
ISSUES TO ADDRESS
• What is the subject matter (iconography) depicted? Is it a devotional or a secular work? Have we studied any versions of the same subject in class, and if so how does this work compare to them?

• How has the artist used the formal elements of painting or sculpture to render the subject? Consider light and shadow, color, depiction of space, motion and texture, narrative techniques.

• How does the work affect you as a late twentieth century viewer? Is it a pleasing composition? Does the artist demonstrate skill or does the work seem provincial? Is it an effective and persuasive rendering of the subject?

• What is the medium, i.e., oil on canvas, and is it unusual? Consider whether or not the medium is significant to the interpretation of the work, i.e., was it expensive or unusually expressive?

• What is the format and scale of the work?

• What kind of larger whole might it have been a part of?

• Can you deduce the original location of the work from its iconography and format?

• What do the iconography and intended location of the work tell you about the work’s function?

• Do you think it was intended for public or private consumption? Who might the audience have been?

• As a historian can you interpret the meaning that the art once held for its original intended audience? This is of course closely connected with the work’s intended location.

This is not intended to be a research paper. You may include information from the label of the painting if you wish, though you must state that this is where you found the information in question. If the iconography is unfamiliar to you, you may research it a little, either in a bible, or in an iconography book.

TK Imager is a data preview and imaging tool that allows you to examine files and folders on local hard drives, network drives, CDs/DVDs, and review the content of forensic images or memory dumps. Using FTK Imager you can also create SHA1 or MD5 hashes of files, export files and folders from forensic images to disk, review and recover files that were deleted from the Recycle Bin (providing that their data blocks haven’t been overwritten), and mount a forensic image to view its contents in Windows Explorer.
FTK Imager is installed in the virtual lab. Log on to the virtual lab, get familiar with the tool and then answer the questions:
How to add an individual file or a file folder as evidence items?
What are the differences between TEXT view and HEX view?

Discussion of the tool’s strengths and weaknesses
Add a JPG image file as an evidence (You can do so by “add evicence item” –> select “content of a folder” and browse to the image file) and write down the HEX code from 0000 to 0007.

Produce a  word essay based on one of the following companies:

The word count excludes the bibliography. Broadly you are interested in how the organization’s strategy meets geography to influence its competitive performance. Your task is to examine how your chosen organization manages to achieve global competitive advantage. You are expected to employ FOUR COMPONENTS [Home country, Supplier country, Customer country, and Partner country] of Spulber’s (2007) “Star analysis” framework to structure your work.
Please note that this assessment task requires you to evaluate the global competitive strategy of the organization based on all the four components of the framework. Please note: This assignment is not a star analysis. You are only expected to use the prescribed four components of the star analysis framework as an organizing device to structure your essay. The word count excludes the bibliography. Please avoid using appendices- the inclusion of any essential figures and tables in the body of the assignment is preferred. The key to doing well is to demonstrate that you can discuss theoretical ideas and apply these in an analysis of an organization. The essay MUST be based on secondary sources, i.e. using newspapers, databases, journal articles and websites rather than primary research which would involve actually talking to firms. If you decide to carry out research directly with your chosen organization (e.g. through interviews with organizational members) you will need ethics clearance from the faculty’s ethics committee and this does not sit until after your assignments are due in! Reading Using lecture materials, together with the recommended readings in the IB outline you should be able to identify core materials for the assignment. It is expected that you will make full use of the library’s resources, and any appropriate scholarly materials.
Part of the exercise of the assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to research a set of problem, therefore, please don’t ask what to read for the assignment.

1. Extent to which the question has been answered: to include, the scope of the answer (depth and breadth)? Was the question answered in sufficient detail (within) the limits of the word count?

Task 1
1.1. What are roles played by WHO, Department of Health (DH) and Local Authorities in identifying levels of health and diseases in the population? Students are required to do this in three levels:

1.2. Explain, using statistical data, the epidemiology of HIV or Ebola and Breast cancer or Diabetes (Type 2) in the UK. Here you are required to:

Explain the epidemiology of HIV or Ebola and Breast cancer or diabetes. For each of the disease provide little background information of the disease and then use data to show the following:
• incidence rate (no of new cases)
• the mortality rate (people that died of the disease),
• prevalence rate (no of people currently living with the disease),
• Number of people receiving treatment etc. ART, chemotherapy, radiotherapy
One or two graphs will be required here to support your work. Students are welcome to explain any other infectious and non-infectious diseases apart from the ones mentioned above provided they will have enough statistics to cover the key points as outlined above.
1.3 How effective are different approaches and strategies adopted by NHS to control breast cancer and HIV in the UK. Some of the approaches you are required to evaluate include:

• environmental controls

Provide an example describing a situation when you needed to use data and data analysis to drive a decision in your line of work. Describe the problem. Identify the data that was utilized and the analysis method(s).

Report on the Capacity Management Strategy of a named operation.
The task:
Present a 2000 word report that evidences primary research relating to a named operation (that means you identify and name the operation) and address the following operational strategies/considerations:
1. Identify the capacity strategy employed by your chosen operation. This should be considered for the planning cycle of one calendar year (12 months) and should include at least the following resources in the analysis:

• Trading hours

• Labour deployment

• Stock replenishment cycle – from key suppliers, including lead time.
2. The report should then consider, via academic theory, the appropriateness of the capacity strategy identified above. Does the capacity strategy offer the most efficient, effective and economic approach for your chosen operation in their market place? Justify your assertions with evidence from theory and your research.
