Calculate basic descriptive values, and communicate written critiques of statistical analyses.

For this discussion, you will organize data sets into meaningful number groupings, calculate basic descriptive values, and communicate written critiques of statistical analyses.

This exercise requires the use of a descriptive statistics calculator.  You can find this tool in some versions of Excel (as part of the Analysis ToolPak) or you can use one of the many free online descriptive calculators such as the Descriptive Statistics Calculator by Calculator Soup.

To begin, come up with 20 different data points (that will form a set of data) and enter them into the first column of an Excel spreadsheet.  The data points can be any numbers you want as long as there are 20 of them.

You will then use the descriptive statistics option in your descriptive statistics program or calculator.  This is explained in Chapter 1 of your course text.  You should get an output similar to the image in Figure 1.1.

This output must contain the following values: mean, standard error, median, mode, standard deviation, sample variance, kurtosis, skewness, range, minimum, maximum, sum, and count.  Address the following points in your initial post:

  • Begin your discussion by reporting your results for each of the values listed above.
  • Based on this output, which single value best describes this set of data and why?
  •  If you could pick three of these values instead of only one, which three would you choose and why?

It is important to note that the answers to these questions may be different for each of you since you are each using unique sets of data.

Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts. Provide a substantive response to at least three of your peers, and respond to comments on your post.  Do you agree with your classmate’s selection of the best value based upon their data?  What suggestions might you make for other options? Explain your suggestions citing relevant information from the article and/or your text. Cite your sources in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

For this exercise, you may elect to use the “Analysis ToolPak” within Excel.  This feature is already part of the 2007 and 2010 Excel program for Windows; however, it must be activated.  The following directions were provided by the Help function within Excel.  If you experience issues while following these steps, utilize the Help function within Excel or contact Microsoft’s technical support for Excel.

The Analysis ToolPak includes the tools described below. To access these tools, click Data Analysis in the Analysis group on the Data tab. If the Data Analysis command is not available, you need to load the Analysis ToolPak add-in program.

Load the Analysis ToolPak:

  1. Click the File tab, click Options, and then click the Add-Inscategory.
  2. In the Manage box, select Excel Add-ins and then click Go.
  3. In the Add-Ins available box, select the Analysis ToolPak check box, and then click OK.

Tip:  If Analysis ToolPak is not listed in the Add-Ins available box, click Browse to locate it.

If you are prompted that the Analysis ToolPak is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it.

Describe the competitive firms will try to differentiate their products in order to eliminate substitutes

e’ve seen that monopolistically competitive firms will try to differentiate their products in order to eliminate substitutes. Are there comparable measures that can be taken in labor markets to decrease the number of “substitutes” for some types of labor? If so, what are the measures? Can you provide an example?

Answer

Discuss specific requirements differ from state to state, and can change Hospitals report .

Hospitals must report certain types of information to their state department of health and other state agencies. The specific requirements differ from state to state, and can change over time as well. What remains constant, however, is the need for efficient and accurate methods for meeting these reporting requirements.

To prepare for this Discussion research the statutory requirements for hospital reporting in your state, or another state of interest to you. The National Academy for State Health Policy report in this week’s Learning Resources will provide a good start to your research, but you should do further exploration to fill out your understanding of the state reporting requirements by hospitals in your selected state.

With these requirements in mind, consider the following:

  • What data are needed to fulfill these reporting requirements?
  • Select a particular type of hospital, such as a small community hospital or a large urban facility within a multi-state hospital system, and identify challenges this institution might encounter in complying with these requirements.
  • Review the health information systems you have learned about so far in this course, and do further exploration, as needed, to identify systems that would help in capturing, processing, and providing the data required for those reports.

Immediate medical intervention and emergency room visits are vital for some patients, while others can be treated through basic outpatient care.

The treatment of anaphylactic shock varies depending on a patient’s physiological response to the alteration. Immediate medical intervention and emergency room visits are vital for some patients, while others can be treated through basic outpatient care.

Consider the January 2012 report of a 6-year-old girl who went to her school nurse complaining of hives and shortness of breath. Since the school did not have any medication under her name to use for treatment and was not equipped to handle her condition, she was sent to an emergency room where she was pronounced dead. This situation has raised numerous questions about the progression of allergic reactions, how to treat students with severe allergies, how to treat students who develop allergic reactions for the first time, and the availability of epinephrine in schools. If you were the nurse at the girl’s school, how would you have handled the situation? How do you know when it is appropriate to treat patients yourself and when to refer them to emergency care?

To prepare:

  • Review “Anaphylactic Shock” in Chapter 23 of the Huether and McCance text, “Distributive Shock” in Chapter 10 of the McPhee and Hammer text, and the Jacobsen and Gratton article in the Learning Resources.
  • Identify the multisystem physiologic progression that occurs in anaphylactic shock. Think about how these multisystem events can occur in a very short period of time.
  • Consider when you should refer patients to emergency care versus treating as an outpatient.
  • Select two patient factors different from the one you selected in this week’s first Discussion: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how the factors you selected might impact the process of anaphylactic shock.

Post by Day 4 an explanation of the physiological progression that occurs in anaphylactic shock. Then, describe the circumstances under which you would refer patients for emergency care versus treating as an outpatient. Finally, explain how the patient factors you selected might impact the process of anaphylactic shock.

Construct the circuit using Multisim. Use the tolerances which you specified in your design.

  1. You are taking a measurement of a signal from a sensor with high frequency noise. In order to not amplify that noise through your instrumentation system, you decide to use a RC filter with a cutoff frequency (critical frequency, fc) of 1kHz after the sensor and before the amplification.
  2. What kind of RC filter do you need? Design the RC filter. Be sure to use standard resistor and capacitor values and specify the tolerance. Show all work.
  3. Construct the circuit using Multisim. Use the tolerances which you specified in your design.
  4. Use the multifunction generator for the input and use both channels of the Tektronix virtual scope to display the input and output voltages.
  5. Create a table of your input and output voltage at dc, 250 Hz, 500Hz, 750Hz, 1kHz, 5kHz, 10kHz, 50kHz, 100kHz. Measure additional frequency points in order to get a nice set of data for the drop off. Be sure to capture several screenshots of the Tektronix virtual scope.
  6. Given the output voltage at dc, what is the voltage 3dB down? In other words, what is the output voltage at the 3dB point? You should calculate this.
  7. Using your simulation, change the frequency of the input voltage until the output voltage is that associated with your 3dB point. What is the frequency of the signal? That is your critical frequency. Take a screenshot of the scope. Add these measurements to your table. Also, put in your report this frequency. What is this frequency called?
  8. Create a plot of your data (you can do this easily in Excel) and copy and paste the plot into your report.
  9. Questions:
  10. Does your circuit attenuate the signal at high frequencies? What is the attenuation at 10kHz?
  11. How does your measured -3dB frequency (fc) compare to your design critical frequency? Give some reasons why it is different.
