Individuals use social movements when they feel a social institution is unjust. Current theoretical perspectives on social movements provide an awareness of the nature of social movements and their role in defining human behavior. In terms of human services, it is important to be able to recognize and assess the costs and benefits to individuals who participate in social movement activities (for example, healthcare reform, charity organizations, and disability movements) as well as the effects of social movements on human behavior.

Tasks:

Using the vignette provided in this module, your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, conduct research to support your response.

In a 3- to 4-page essay, address the following:

• Provide a summary of the vignette’s key points as related to the social movements it represents. Identify and describe the concepts from this module that can be applied to the vignette to describe human behavior (i.e., cultural framing).
• Identify and discuss the effects of the identified social movement on the individual described in the vignette.
• Provide a summary of service methods or options that could be used to support this person. You can use examples you have identified in your own community as well.

• By Wednesday, October 14, 2015, prepare a 3- to 4-page essay. Your response should rely upon at least three sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

George Washington was aware that many of his actions would be regarded as precedents. Here are three precedents that Washington established:

1. Washington created the first Presidential Cabinet. Who was on the Cabinet, and what Departments did they represent? Who is on the Cabinet today, and what Departments do they represent?
2. Washington was the first President to leave office after two terms. Did he specifically intend for future presidents to be limited to two terms? Who were the four presidents who tried for third terms? Who was the successful one?
3. Washington was the first to establish foreign policy, and issued the Proclamation of Neutrality. What situation did this proclamation address? What agency advises the President on foreign policy today? What is the role of this agency?

Be sure to include where you got your information. For example, include website addresses.

Do ONE of the two following two MS Project exercises depending on which group you have been assigned.  Instructions for both exercises are below:

WBS Exercise I (Wedding Planning) 

Important Note: Doing this exercise now will greatly help you in succeeding on the ITP projects.

This exercise requires both Microsoft Project AND a Word document.

Note: Doing this exercise will require making some assumptions. Make sure to show your assumptions and explain why you made them in the Word document!

Note: At each step just continue on from where you finished the previous step. Don’t revert back to the beginning.

Perform all of the steps and, in the Word document, answer all of the parts of the question/exercise, below; document your assumptions that you made at every step; note the project completion date at each step; and describe your findings at every step:

Step A — Take the following WBS and put it into your Microsoft Project. Don’t forget to add the indents! Save the file as “<yourname> G. Wedding Project File One”. ADD durations to all tasks based on YOUR estimates of how long the tasks should take.

In your response to this question, tell us, based on your durations, how long it will take to plan the wedding and tell us the date that Microsoft Project tells you that you will be finished with the Plan the Wedding project.

Assume a project start date of January 1st of this year (or the following Monday if that was on a weekend):

Make sure to use “Automatic scheduling”, not “Manual scheduling”, and to enter task durations not hard-coded task dates. (“Manual scheduling” can really mess things up.).

• Do not enter hard coded dates (that is, dates that you enter by hand instead of letting MS Project calculate them for you), with the sole exception of the project start date.  (Note that even that does not mean you can enter the task date of the first task.  It means that you can set the project start date separately and explicitly in MS Project.  Hard-coding the start date of the first task is not the same as entering a project start date.)
•  Do not use “manually scheduled” tasks.  Rather, use “automatically scheduled” tasks.  When manually scheduled, the dates are essentially hard-coded (see above) and not allowed to automatically adjust when the task durations and critical paths change.

Please flesh it out by adding a few additional tasks of your own at appropriate places in the WBS to make it more realistic. Don’t get carried away, though. Don’t make it overly complex. That’s not the intent.

In MS Project, add a top level root task whose name is the project name (Wedding Plan), with no work in itself, and all remaining tasks (the tasks listed above and those you added) subordinate to (indented from) it.

Step B — Save the file again, as “<yourname> G. Wedding Project File Two”.

Then, in the last lowest task (that is, the lowest level leaf node task), change the date to six months from the day you are working on the file.

Task changes like this may have to be “Manual scheduling”, but still should involve only task duration changes, not hard-coded task dates.

In your narrative, please indicate which task you changed (which task was the last, lowest leaf node task), and what date you changed it to.

What happens to the other tasks? When is the Plan the Wedding project scheduled to complete?

Step C — Save the file again, as “<yourname> G. Wedding Project File THREE”.

Then, change the date in the Prepare for the Reception task to June 15 (that is, the next June 15 after the project starts; don’t change it to a date in the past). If the Prepare for Reception task is a summary roll-up group, then you may need to change its date by changing the date of a subordinate task instead.

What happens? When is the Plan the Wedding project scheduled to complete?

Which task did you change the date of? Why?

Step D — As you have gone through these changes, what has happened to the tasks in the Schedule/calendar area of the Gantt view?

Step E — NOW, save your final .mpp as “<yourname>  Wedding Project File FOUR” and post both your .mpp and your narrative (these answers) in your Assignments Folder by clicking on Homework 1 (Wk 2) above..

Realizing that there will be differences between submissions, what do you think causes the differences among classmates using the same WBS? How do you think this might affect your team efforts as you work with your team’s WBS and Microsoft Project as we go through the semester?

1. Please tell me what an ACO is and if you think this is a successful model for the health care industry.

ACO is basically a network of care.  Think of a spoked wheel.  The patient is in the center.  Each spoke represents a care for that patient.  If you have a patient that went into the hospital for a new knee, for example, that patient may also be overweight, have diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis.  Each spoke will be taking care of one or more of these areas, since the overall health of the patient requires all areas to be addressed.  The patient’s weight is going to have a direct relationship on the weight bearing of the knee.  The diabetes will have a direct bearing on how quickly the patient heals. The patient will not have tests done by one doctor, then the same test done by another, and each one prescribing something to counteract what the other prescribed.  This is a common problem in health care today.  The model makes the care coordinated.  For the patient, it is a wonderful model.  But today many doctors that are part of the ACO now want no part of it.  Can anyone guess why?

It was amazing to hear how successful the salesman in the video was and how his biggest contract was originally at the bottom of his list. The business of selling is very tough and not everyone has the skill to do it. I think watching the progress of his 1 year journey is amazing. Confidence in your product helps to show you believe in it and gives them the chance to see it through your eyes.  Changing their perception to identify with the product the same as you do or changing their attitude from something the consumer is comfortable with to a new way is essential in a competitive society.  Thoughts?

In this discussion, you will continue examining child protection services by evaluating the effectiveness of child protection resources from organizations that provide information and support for at-risk families. Specifically, we assess the outcomes of parenting programs for at-risk families using role-play. To prepare for this discussion, review any of the various chapters from Rubin (2012) listed in the Recommended Resources for Week Two, as well as the Week Two Instructor Guidance. When responding to this discussion, depending on the first letter of your last name, you will select either the California Department of Health Care Services website or the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services website and speak from a specific role about whether to keep or terminate a specific program that supports at-risk children and families.

• • If your last name begins with A-M, speak from the role of a Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services official who wants to maintain an existing parenting program that supports at-risk children and families.

 

• If your last name begins with N-Z, speak from the role of a State of California Director of Health Services who wants to eliminate a specific parenting program that supports at-risk children and families to reduce costs for the state.

Initial Post: Speaking from the role you are assigned, write an initial post about whether to keep or eliminate a specific program that supports at-risk children and families. Use the two websites listed above, the recommended Rubin (2012) readings for Week Two, and at least one additional scholarly source to provide support for your argument. Be sure to state which role you are assuming in this role-play activity and the specific program you are discussing at the beginning of your initial post.
