Construct a cumulative distribution function and probability density function (pdf approximated using a histogram) using 10 inch intervals (0, 10, 20,…etc.).

ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TYPED AND STAPLED!!

  1.      1.From the Organic Vegetable Factsheet(http://cru.cahe.wsu.edu/CEPublications/EM097E/EM097E.pdf), pick two of the 6 vegetable crops and answering the following questions:
  2. Use gross revenue per acre values in the Production and Sales Trends section and costs from Appendix 1 to estimate profit per acre for both crops.  Do you feel like the market average or grower average value for gross revenue per acre is more relevant (there is no right answer on this)?
  3. Are the histograms in the Profitability and Risk section approximations to cumulative distribution functions or probability density functions?
  4. How does the histogram for gross revenue per acre change how you interpret the average values for gross revenue per acre reported in the Production and Sales Trends section?
  5. Using the cost estimates from appendix 1, what is the break-even price and break-even yield for each crop using the market average values.
  6. From d, based on the histograms from the Profitability and Risk section, what is the probability of observing the break-even price and yield (may need to use the red bars for price)?

22.T2.the Excel spreadsheet “CleElumMonthlySnowHistorical.xlsx” provided on Blackboard lists the total snowpack in inches near Cle Elum, WA for a day in the month of March for each year going back to the 1930’s.  Given that snow accumulation is the primary determinant of whether irrigators get their full allotment it is important to understand the distribution of snow totals.  Using this data set do the following tasks:

  1. Calculate the expected value (mean), standard deviation, and coefficient of variation for this data series.
  2. Construct a cumulative distribution function and probability density function (pdf approximated using a histogram) using 10 inch intervals (0, 10, 20,…etc.).
  3. Imagine you are a farmer that relies on irrigation, do you think the PDF or CDF is more informative for assessing curtailment (curtailment refers to when water diversions to farms are not allowed because there is not enough water from snowmelt in the summer)?
  4. Consider a scenario where another farmer offers you a contract that states the following.  If the snowpack total for the last day of March is less than 10 inches then you will not plant your field and will transfer your water to their farm.  For doing this you will be paid $500/acre for each acre that you fallow (fallow means you don’t plant).  This means, however, that you cannot plant a perennial crop that generates higher profit per acre.  You have determined that if you accept the contract you will plant a lower value annual crop that generates $400/acre in profit.  If you refuse the contract you will plant a high value perennial crop that generates $800/acre in profit when snowpack is greater than 10 inches but only $100/acre when snowpack is less than 10 inches.  The lower profit total occurs due to the fact that yields are reduced because the crop is water stressed.  Using a decision tree determine whether your expected profit is higher from accepting or refusing the contract.

  1. Create a line chart of snowpack total over time.  Do you think you are justified in assuming that this data series is identically distributed over time?  Justify your answer

Determine if the angle will experience block shear rupture.

You are the safety manager for a company that erects steel frame structures. A common method that your company uses to provide fall protection is to weld an L5x3.5×1/4 section of angle that is 8” long to the WF beams that are used in the construction of the building. The angles have an eye that has been welded to them (See Figs. 1 and 2). The eye provides an anchor point for the lanyard of a PFA to be attached to. The angle is welded to the beams on the ground, so that it will be in place and ready for immediate use as soon as the beam is set. This design was approved by a P.E.
For the current jobsite you are on, this design has been modified. Workers at heights of 10-50 feet were found not affixing the PFA to an anchor point. After analysis, it was determined the reason was the workers were not able to reach the anchor point to attach the vertical lifeline. Therefore, your director decided to modify the anchor point design and have a section of flat bar bolted to the angle to provide an extension (See Fig. 3). A D-ring plate is then bolted to the extension (See Fig. 4).
You are concerned that the modification has negatively impacted the strength of the anchorage point. You raise this concern to your director, but he rebuffs your concern stating that the same size angle that was approved by the P.E. is being used, and the flat bar that is bolted on as an extension is thicker and of higher strength material than the angle. Furthermore, he states that the D-ring plate being used is a special, high strength product rated at 15,000 lbs of fall protection- which he states is over what OSHA requires. He also informs you that the D-ring plate is bolted on using ¾” bolts, which is what the manufacturer specifications require.
You are particularly concerned with the bolts— and bolt holes—- that the modification requires. You point out to the director that when the bolts were added, holes were drilled that removed material, hence weakening the design. The director, now concerned that a serious error has been made, asks you to investigate your concerns by compiling a report by doing the following:
⦁ Determine the need for fall protection.
⦁ Determine how many pounds an anchorage is required to support.
⦁ Determine if the bolts used are of adequate strength/size.
⦁ Determine if the angle will experience tensile failure.
⦁ Determine if the angle will experience block shear rupture.
NOTES: Be sure to state specific regulations where applicable. Figs. 1-3 are not to scale, nor do they reflect the bolt sizes, spacing, or patterns unique to each group. Please refer to Figs. 6 for specific information. Fig. 7 provides an orthographic drawing of the bolt holes.

The written report should contain the following:
⦁ Title Page
⦁ Executive Summary
⦁ Table of Contents
⦁ List of Figures (If Applicable)
⦁ List of Tables (If Applicable)
⦁ Methodology
⦁ Results and Conclusions
⦁ References (If Applicable)
⦁ Appendices
⦁ Essay on Ethical Implications—
⦁ BCSP Code of Ethics
⦁ Actions to be Taken
⦁ Need for a P.E. ?

Additional Information:
⦁ The PFA system uses a full body harness, a non-shock absorbing lanyard, a mechanical lever fall arrester, 5/8” diam. 3 strand, nylon rope, a 3’ lanyard w/ 6’ fall distance.
⦁ For the Angle:
⦁ Fy= 36,000 psi
⦁ Fu= 58,000 psi
⦁ For the Extension:
⦁ Fy= 42,000 psi
⦁ Fu= 60,000 psi

⦁ Design the system based on a worker + tool weight of 290 lbs.
⦁ There are three workers attached to each anchor point.
⦁ The extension is bolted on using 1/2” diam. GR 5 bolts.
⦁ The bolt hole pattern for attaching the extension to the angle is given in Figure 6.

Discuss at least six references and follow APA formatting examples.

I have choosen Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) as the topic for my research paper.

The Research paper topic is to choose an anxiety disorder that is included in the DSM 5 (see last page of the syllabus). Research papers should include symptoms, basic concepts, genetic factors if applicable, course of the disorder, development of the disorder (such as cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components) and treatment (including pharmacological treatment).

Included in the paper should explain how your chosen anxiety disorder fits criteria for the anxiety disorder category and how it differs from other disorders within the anxiety classification (hint: use differential diagnosis information). Critical thinking should be evident within the content of paper (in other words, do not provide only straight factual information).   Critical thinking can be provided in applying cognitive theory or other therapeutic orientations to the treatment of the disorder.

Papers should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words, and should include at least six references and follow APA formatting examples.  Please note that any papers submitted late or that do not meet the wording criteria within 10%  (i.e., 900 to 1,650) will result in the deduction of an entire letter grade.  Please see the external link section for resources on APA formatting and contact your instructor or the library if you need help with formatting.

Scholarly sources must be used.  You may use popular sources to support public opinion and perhaps your critical thinking but it must be in addition to 6 scholarly sources.  If you have questions about scholarly text, please consult with your instructor or the library.

Discuss the evidence that various aspects of culture are obstacles to development.

Econ Paper requirement
The paper should be about 8 double-spaced pages and must be no longer than 15 pages. The paper should contain a list of sources at the end. The body of the paper should contain specific references to these sources.
The paper should address a well-defined question, bringing logical arguments and factual evidence to bear in answering that question. You should assume that the reader is not very familiar with your topic area, and therefore you need to describe some background material to put your question in context. It may take a few paragraphs to define the question precisely. The body of the paper presents the logical arguments (and perhaps some definitions of terms) and the evidence supporting or casting doubt on the statements you make. The final paragraph should review the arguments that you have made and should restate your main conclusions (with appropriate qualifications).
The last page of your paper should be a list of references. You should refer to these references in the body of your paper, sometimes giving the page number when you are citing a particular fact or idea. Feel free to list the Weil textbook, the Mishkin book. I have to give professor a description of the essay, so can you write an easy description in the reference page please?
Grammar and style. Please run spell-check on your paper. The following common grammatical mistakes should be avoided. (a) Run-on sentence. Example: Economists had a naïve view of government, they thought government officials were honest and competent. Here two sentences have been separated by a comma, rather than a period (a semi-colon would also be correct here). (b) Sentence fragment. Every sentence has to have both a subject and a verb. (c) The contraction of “it is” is it’s; the possessive form is “its.” (d) The verb affect is spelled with an “a.” The consequences of an action are its effects, spelled with an “e.” Example: The break-up with his girl friend affected his emotional health, but its effects on his diet were minimal.

Examples of paper topics and possible ways to approach them:
a. Is education one of the keys to economic development? You might start out by explaining that education is one form of human capital, which enters directly into the production function. You could also point out that the level of education might affect political institutions, community organizations, and the quality of government bureaucracy; thus its effects are not limited to the direct contribution of human capital in production. Education might also affect crime rates and the level of fertility. Having explained the various ways in which education might affect development, you would turn to the evidence that education makes a positive contribution to development. There is evidence on the productive effects of human capital at the level of individuals—more educated individuals earn more—and evidence at the level of countries—more educated countries have higher per capita incomes. In both of these correlations questions of causation have to be addressed, because the correlations might be explained by higher incomes causing education or some other variable causing both income and education.
b. Is governmental corruption the most serious obstacle to development in poor countries? You might start out by describing the various ways in which corruption in government can hinder development. One way to think about this question is to describe the various ways in which government policies can promote or hinder development, and then think about how corruption would influence government performance in each of these areas. You could also look at correlations between governance measures and income or growth rates for some evidence on the effect of corruption on development. You would have to explain the two-way causation between per capita income and corruption.
c. Are differences in development mainly explained by culture? You might describe the various ways in which a progress-resistant culture might inhibit development. (You should probably devote some space to defining your terms.) I think the distinction between personal culture and civic culture is important. Then you could discuss the evidence that various aspects of culture are obstacles to development. As always in discussing evidence, you should be sensitive to the possibility of causation running from development success to a progress-prone culture as well as causation running from a progress-prone culture to development success.
d. What are the development priorities in country X? Your country of interest might be a development success or a development failure, or somewhere in between. To the extent that your country has been successful, you should explain what the country has done right, and if possible why the country has done those things. Was it good government performance or good business performance despite an inept government? To the extent that your country has failed in some ways to develop, you should explain what the obstacles have been and what has prevented the government from dealing with those obstacles. In many countries it should be easy to describe what steps by the government would promote development (e.g., better education policies, more of certain types of infrastructure, better legal system) and you should spell this out. But it is more challenging and more interesting to explain the political or other obstacles to implementing these desirable government policies.

Identify five standards that this company is required to provide training for, and briefly describe why this training is required.

Worksite Hazard Assessment

OSHA’s Personal Protective Equipment Standard requires employers to assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present that necessitate the use of PPE. Based on the assessment, appropriate PPE must be selected and provided to affected employees.

Using Subpart I Appendix B as a guide, develop a hazard assessment for your workplace or a workplace you are familiar with. If you work in an office or other non-hazardous location, develop an assessment for an imagined industrial shop, such as woodworking or metalworking. Use the other sections of Subpart I to help determine the appropriate PPE for each hazard. You can also use online safety equipment catalogs to find examples of PPE that meets the OSHA requirements.

Your submission must be a minimum of two pages. References and citations in APA format should be provided to support the hazard determinations and PPE selection. The reference page does not count towards the two page minimum.

Subpart I Appendix B is located at the following link:

HAZCOM Training Presentation

The 2012 revision to the Hazard Communication Standard requires that employers train workers on the GHS-compliant hazard warning labels and safety data sheets. (See 1910.1200(h)(3)(iv). Using Appendices C and D of the current standard as a resource, develop a 7-10 slide PowerPoint presentation that can be used to train the employees at your workplace or a workplace you are familiar with. Include examples of the hazardous materials found in your selected workplace in the presentation.

When creating your presentation, be sure your explanations and discussion are in plain language and at a level suitable for your target workforce–do not simply quote the standard. Additional resources can be found at OSHA’s Hazard Communication Page: http://www.osha.gov/dsg/hazcom/index.html

Case Study

Read the background information and scenario description in sections I and II, then answer the questions in section III. Be sure you read the complete directions for preparing your case study.

I. Background: OSHA Standards and Bubba’s Materials Handling Equipment, Inc.

Bubba’s Materials Handling Equipment is a small corporation that employs between 38 and 55 employees throughout any given year. This firm manufactures materials handling equipment that includes small cantilever racks; hand trucks, some specially designed for moving 55-gallon drums; and various dollies commonly used in the manufacturing sector. The facility was built in 1958 and is roughly 80,000 square feet. The firm receives raw materials in the form of round metal tubing, sheet metal, square tubing, and cold and hot rolled metal rods.

Raw materials are removed from flatbed trailers using a large LP-gas-powered forklift with the assistance of smaller LP-gas-powered forklifts. These materials are stored in racks in the receiving department. From there, raw materials are moved via forklift and various heavy duty carts to the fabrication department. This department cuts, punches, bends, copes, and shears the various materials into parts used to make the final product.

The metal fabrication equipment includes two iron workers, two 70-ton part revolution mechanical power punch presses, three 250-ton part revolution press brakes, a 300-ton hydraulic press, two pipe benders, a 12-foot shear, a 10-foot shear, a mill for milling a bevel on hand truck toe plates, several off-hand grinders, and two large drill presses. The fabrication department can get quite noisy for days at a time (>85dBa), especially when making cantilever racks. Two maintenance employees keep these machines running. After being cut, punched, bent, and formed, fabricated parts go to the welding department or the Work in Process (WIP) crib. WIP includes a mezzanine and an area populated with pallet racks for storage.

In the welding department, there are 12 MIG welding machines that are used by welders to assemble the parts into the pre-finished items manufactured by the firm. The welders also use an assortment of hand-held grinders and an oxyacetylene torch. Once welded, items either go in their pre-finished condition into inventory or are further processed by the painting department. Pre-finished items that are inventoried are taken to one of two mezzanines or placed in storage racks. In the painting department, items are wiped down with various solvents and hung on an overhead hook conveyor. Items go into the paint booth where they are painted using various enamels. Xylenes and toluene are common solvents used in this operation. The paints also contain these solvents.

After painting, axles and wheels are applied, and the completed products are boxed or, depending on their size, loaded directly on trucks without packaging. Larger items, such as racks, are loaded onto flatbeds using an unmanned overhead crane controlled by a pendant control. Smaller items are typically loaded onto standard semi-trailers using battery-powered forklifts or pallet jacks.

II. The Scenario:

You have been hired by Bubba himself to put together a safety program for the company. Essentially, the company has no safety programs and has never really conducted any kind of hazard assessment.

III. Questions:

1. Identify 15 of what you consider the highest priority standards that are likely to apply to this operation. Include the code number for the standard, and describe a hazard demonstrating why the standard applies (e.g., Industrial Ventilation, 1910.94. The company has a paint booth that controls paint and solvent vapors).

2. Identify four important written programs this company is required to have (keep in mind that not all standards require that you develop a written program or SOP of some sort; although, many companies develop such SOPs regardless). Explain why you believe they are required to have these written programs.

3. Identify five standards that this company is required to provide training for, and briefly describe why this training is required.

Prepare your response to the questions listed in a properly formatted APA document. The completed paper should be arranged in the appropriate questions/sections identified above. Single-spacing may be used. Please make sure that you have addressed all questions in a full and detailed manner. Include a correctly formatted APA title and reference page. Remember to cite all sources used.

further explaination of whats required:

Hazard Assessment

It is OK to utilize a table in this assessment — there is no particular APA formatting for the table, just be sure to cite your sources, most likely the OSHA Appendix, and use APA formatting for the text portion of your assessment.

PowerPoint

Be sure to completely cover the NEW GHS standard — don’t just pluck an existing HAZCOM .ppt off the grid.

Use the Rubric — it focuses heavily on the .ppt itself.  I am perfectly ok with a well selected existing template — don’t feel you need to make your own!   But remember — darker letters on a lighter background show up better on a projector, and print better if you are going to actually present this to your fellow employees.

Case Study

This is best prepared as a numbered list, or at least separate paragraphs — if you put all 15 hazards for Part I into a single paragraph, you will lose points.

DO NOT type the scenario into your answer — it drastically increases the percentage of match your assessment will have with work previously turned in.   While I do look closely at the percentage of match and WHAT is matched, it distracts from your message to me — which standards are you going to target first?

Describe financial accounting disclosures required for nonprofit organizations and how these disclosures provide useful information to users.

Needs to be in apa format with cited references

Library Research Assignment
The FASB’s Conceptual Framework and Statements of Financial Accounting Standards (SFASs) require full disclosures to be made in a business enterprise’s financial statements. These disclosures requirements are applicable to corporations and nonprofit organizations. The purpose of these disclosures is to provide reliable and relevant information to the users of the financial statements. In addition to disclosures required by the FASB, nonprofits must also be in compliance with regulations enacted by Congress as well as local laws.
You currently work for a nonprofit organization as a staff accountant. The controller has requested that you conduct research on disclosure requirements for nonprofit organizations to ascertain if the organization is in compliance with established FASB requirements and any other regulations applicable to nonprofits, such as IRS regulations.
Prepare a written report of 2–5 pages that includes the following:
Describe financial accounting disclosures required for nonprofit organizations and how these disclosures provide useful information to users.
Explain disclosure requirements for nonprofit organizations, such as the tax-exempt determination letters required by Congress and the IRS.
Discuss the reasons for these disclosure requirements and the sentiments of the public and government about deviations and scandals in this sector because of lack of disclosures.
Include a minimum of 3 properly researched and cited facts using APA format as they apply to the disclosure requirements for nonprofit organizations.
