Identify and recommend computer equipment for technology refreshes and new initiatives.

Upton, Martin, Ulysses, & Clapper (UMUC) is a medium-sized financial analysis firm specializing in conducting independent economic and market assessments for banks, insurance companies, mortgage lenders, and government regulatory agencies. UMUC also provides independent verification and validation (IV&V) services for assessments and reports that were developed internally by these entities. The firm is highly respected for its unbiased, politics neutral, objective, accurate financial and economic products and services.

You are a Senior IT Specialist & Systems Analyst at UMUC. One of your responsibilities is to identify and recommend computer equipment for technology refreshes and new initiatives. The Senior Manager, Revolving Debt Analysis (RDA) has come to you because it is time for a technology refresh and there is a new initiative to conduct more complex, national-level analysis of credit card fraud, default, and write-off data. Specifically, banks, credit card companies, and some law enforcement entities want to see if this analysis will assist in targeting identity thieves.

The Senior Manager explains that RDA will need to refresh 35 desktop personal computers (PC). The new PCs will need to run complex calculations based on statistical models that use large amounts of data. Due to the unique nature of the datasets, data models, queries, formulas and equations and the individuality of the financial analysts and economists (many hold a PhD), the actual compute power needs to be in the desktop machine. Your task is to assess and identify the hardware needed that will allow the financial analysts and economists (collectively the users) to complete their work. The Senior Manager, RDA provided a table of requirements (see below), which shows the activities and software the PC hardware needs to support.

The Assignment & Deliverable
This is an individual assignment. You must work on your own.

The assignment is to analyze the mini-case and table of requirements to assess and identify the hardware needed that will allow the financial analysts and economists (collectively the users) to complete their work. The focus must be on the internal hardware components (motherboard, CPU, RAM, bus, hard drive, connectors & ports, etc.). Do not simply visit a PC/Workstation manufacturer’s site (Dell, HP, etc.) and select a machine. This will not be successful. You must identify each component; determine its size, capacity, speed, etc.; and show how each requirement will be met.

The deliverable is an MS Word document based on the template embedded in this document. The audience for the deliverable is the Senior Manager, RDA; other RDA managers and supervisors; and selected RDA users. The expectation is RDA will be able use the report and work with Procurement to develop a Request for Quotation (RFQ).
Here is what you need to do:

⦁ Click on icon to launch the template and save it to your desktop.

⦁ Please do not deviate from the formatting contained in the report template.

⦁ Follow the content instructions in the various sections of the document to complete your work.

⦁ All narrative content must be single spaced, Arial 12 point.

⦁ All table content must be single spaced, Arial 10 point.

⦁ Review and use the Evaluation & Scoring Rubric below to ensure the report contains an appropriate level of information.

⦁ External research and a References page are required.
⦁ You must use of at least three (3) external sources. This is in addition to any course materials from assigned readings and videos.
⦁ You should use scholarly, vendor, and industry materials.
⦁ Do not simply copy and paste information from the Web or copy information from the readings or other sources.

Analyze how the enterprise architecture (EA) affects various elements of the organization.

Stakeholder Analysis
This assignment uses two provided documents:
Stakeholder_Analysis_Exercise.xls (spreadsheet)
DMV Case Study
Purpose of this Assignment
This assignment gives you the opportunity to apply your critical thinking skills and understanding of the course concepts to analyze how the enterprise architecture (EA) affects various elements of the organization. This assignment specifically addresses the following course outcome:
conduct stakeholder analysis to identify concerns and appropriate viewpoints
Background
One of the keys to successful enterprise architecture (EA) implementation is the support offered by important stakeholders.
Stakeholders are those with an interest in a given project. There are varying degrees of stakeholder involvement, which may be described as being in the following groups:
Key Players—These are the most important stakeholders; they have a vested interest in the approach, content, and output of the EA.
Keep Satisfied—The next most significant group are those who must obtain what they need from the EA and are less concerned with the construction and specific content of the EA.
Keep Informed—This group has a need to know what is being done and how it will benefit the organization overall; they have little interest in any of the details of how the EA is developed and used.
Minimal Effort—This group has little interest in the EA and requires little attention during the EA development effort.
The benefits of successfully managing stakeholders include the following:
Obtaining support from the most influential stakeholders will help ensure that they both help to shape the EA and to improve its content and products.
Influential stakeholders are in a position to allocate human and financial resources to the EA effort, making it more likely to succeed.
Ongoing communication with stakeholders ensures their understanding of the process and benefits of EA, and enables their support if needed.
Successful management allows the EA team to draw on the support of stakeholders with a positive view of the process if they need to address negative reactions or setbacks in the organization.
(Concepts contained herein were derived in part from The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), v. 9.)

Assignment
Using the DMV Case Study and the Stakeholder Analysis Exercise spreadsheet provided, you will complete the three columns of the spreadsheet for each of the ten stakeholder groups listed on the spreadsheet.
First, explain the interest or concern that the stakeholder has in the development of the EA. Then, identify their “class” or role in the EA as one of the four shown above (Key Player, Keep Satisfied, Keep Informed, or Minimal Effort). Finally, briefly explain your reasoning for selecting the class/role that you did.
Complete the spreadsheet and submit it via your Assignments Folder by the due date shown in the class schedule. Note: The filename of your submission should include your last name. An example would be: Smith_Stakeholder_Analysis.xls.

Discuss several different countries would typically be impossible in this time frame unless you are a multi-millionaire with a private jet.

You need to propose three ideas, answering the given questions. If you are having trouble generating ideas, look back to your second step (attached document) , think about your interests, think about your definitions of art, etc.  What would you like to see as art?  What is art to you that is not generally accepted in conventional definitions?  What do you find beautiful?  What are unconventional modes of expression?  What reflects our context?  You can also go back to your three gateways: art as form, art as context, and art as expression.  Ask yourself if your topic could be considered art in a formal sense.  Or if your topic functions as art contextually.  Or if your topic could be considered a form of expression.

For those of you who would like a better idea about what a photo essay is or could be, I have compiled these links for your to peruse:

The next step in your creative process is to more concretely develop ideas for your execution and propose them.  For professional artists, this part of the process is not only key when submitting work to grant programs or patrons but also just playing around with ideas, seeing which ones are the strongest.  Photo essays are often compared to essays constructed with words, telling stories or expressing ideas. For this type of work, the strongest themes will be specific enough to make a statement, personal to you, and understandable to the viewer.   Also, make sure your ideas are doable in the timeframe and resources that are given.  For example, an essay topic that requires you to go to several different countries would typically be impossible in this timeframe unless you are a multi-millionaire with a private jet.  Make sure that it is something you can accomplish by the deadline.

Here you will propose three themes, answering the following questions with each one:  What is the title you see for a photo essay with this theme?  What types of shots would you include within a photo essay with this title?  (I am just asking for a general overview, not a formal shot list.)  How does this idea interpret the prompt: “Art in its Natural Habitat?”  This will often lead to the photo essay you choose to develop for your final step, but it doesn’t have to.  In the creative process, your ideas and work are subject to change, but it is the thought you put in that prepares you to make that leap–even if it isn’t obviously connected to your proposed ideas.
