Problem 2.
Sawyer Furniture is one of the few remaining domestic manufacturers of wood furniture. In the current competitive environment, cost containment is the key to its continued survival. Demand for furniture follows a seasonal demand pattern with increased sales in the summer and fall months, culminating with peak demand in November.
The cost of production is $16 per unit for regular production, $24 for overtime, and $33 for subcontracting. Hiring and firing costs are $500 per worker. Inventory holding costs are $20 per unit per month. There is no beginning inventory. Ten workers are currently employed. Each worker can produce 50 pieces of furniture per month. Overtime cannot exceed regular production. Given the following demand data, use Excel Solver to design an aggregate production plan for Sawyer Furniture that will meet demand at the lowest possible cost.

Writing a Public Health Grant Application in Response to an FOA

This assignment provides you the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge you have gained in your MPH program studies. You will now set your sights on the actual grant application process.

Based on the research you conducted in the Required Assignment (RA), you will now complete a grant application (FOA) for the public health intervention you have identified previously.

First, confirm that your chosen FOA intervention supports one of the MPH coursework areas of concern to you (as listed previously in the RA).

The FOA associated with this public health intervention will be used as the basis for your grant application. Conduct research, analyze the subject matter, and synthesize your findings to include the following steps in your grant application:

  • Complete all instructions for your chosen FOA very precisely (that is, provide every form or piece of information required).
  • Complete all written pieces in a formal and logical manner.
  • Construct all forms or documents in a highly professional manner and in the required format (neatness and professional looking work is necessary).

Submit the overall completed grant application along with all required forms and documents to your instructor. Do not submit the application to the organization.

Special Note: Please include all the actual elements to be addressed as required in the FOA, which may vary from topic to topic and agency to agency. Some FOAs require that a standardized form be used and some require a combination of forms and a Microsoft Word document with verbiage. Generally, APA formatting does not apply, other than for proper grammar and spelling. Read the FOA instructions carefully, as they will be

Briefly and generally introduce the reader to your topic.

PHI 2010 – Paper 2 Assignment – Ethics and Society or Existential Issues

For this assignment, you will need to write a formal essay (title, introduction – including a thesis statement, supporting arguments, and conclusion) of at least 1,200 words arguing for the morality or immorality of some ethical issue. You may choose any ethical issue that you wish (drugs, abortion, war, A.I., cloning, immigration, euthanasia, artificial intelligence, etc.) but make sure that you are presenting an argument aimed at determining the moral status of this action or issue. Using an ethical theory can be a good way to provide justified reasons to support your position. You may utilize the readings we cover in class, but you must do some outside research as well. Your essay should be set up as follows:

(1)    Introduction

a.       Briefly and generally introduce the reader to your topic

b.      Provide a thesis statement (What problem to you hope to resolve here? Or, what question are you seeking to answer?)

(2)    Put forward an argument

a.       Begin by explaining the problem or issue

b.      Make sure you define key terms

(3)    Consider the other side

a.       How would some object to your view?

b.      How would you defend your view, in light of these objections?

(4)    Provide a conclusion

a.       Reaffirm your thesis without merely restating content

b.      Avoid introducing new ideas in your conclusion

c.       Avoid ending your essay in a question

Identity(ies) of those who are different from them, specifically those who have been marginalized, disregarded, and silenced by a dominant we society.

I have suggested that we should engage and be engaged by those persons who see and understand the world differently from those who sit comfortably within a dominant we society so that we might (re)imagine or discover a new place for democratic politics. And as film-goers who find ourselves more susceptible emotionally to the stimuli presented in a movie theatre, we can at times experience vicariously, yet deeply, the events, the stories, the lives of those who are different from ourselves. As individuals living in a multicultural and diverse society we should consider opening ourselves up to and welcoming such engagement and the possibilities for personal transformation in our individual sensibilities. Such a transformation might occur when one considers and compares the experiences of his or her life and the impact of those experiences on his or her identity next to those raw materials that make-up or construct the identity(ies) of those who are different from them, specifically those who have been marginalized, disregarded, and silenced by a dominant we society. I have suggested that when one truly sees Other, sees and hears the stories of difference crafted and told by the Other in film, one might come to respect the different voices and stories of those lives and thus allow him or herself to see and experience life from a new position, a transformed sensibility, where politics transcend convention. In other words, when we consider our lives next to those who are different from us, when we frame those different human stories next to our own personal human narrative we may come to understand how a particular human uncertainty and vulnerability informs all of our lives.

In 300-500 words share whether or not you believe film has the potential to transform one’s political sensibilities.  And if you believe that your personal sensibilities have been (re)shaped or transformed by a particular film, say so.   The objective here is to share your thoughts pertaining to the major thesis presented in Democracy and Difference.

Briefly describe the scope of your process improvement objective.

You should always have sections of Abstract, Introduction, Main Body Sections, Conclusions, and References.

This is in refernece to the Toyota crisis..area that calls for attention in the acceleration case is the area of prevention.  This is the process I picked to build my OIP on.

Activity Instruction

You have examined and broadly identified the organizational problem you will address in your OIP and have begun to identify the new process you would propose to address it. The next critical step is to refine your problem statement by defining and demonstrating the problem and process in detail. There are a number of tools you can use to do this. Two of the most useful are the cause-and-effect diagram and the process flowchart.

For this assignment, complete the following:

  • Create a cause-and-effect diagram to identify, analyze, and graphically depict all potential causes related to the problem, in order to uncover its root causes.
  • Create a graphic flowchart that briefly details all of the steps you will need to implement in your new process, over time. Identify what this flowchart reveals about the following:
    • Previously unidentified yet important steps.
    • Products or services that should have been undergoing quality checks but were not.
    • Instances in the old process when critical information was not shared among all involved people and functions.
  • Create a before-and-after flowchart that illustrates the process that was used before your proposed improvements and what it might look like after your recommendations are incorporated.
  • Based on the preliminary problem statement you developed in Unit 2, briefly describe the scope of your process improvement objective. For this assignment, focus on only one of the contributing causes of the problem.
  • Write a refined version of your problem statement based on what you have learned about your objective by using the diagram and flowchart tools.
