Discuss the connection between recruitment and retention.

Assignment Overview

The two primary outcomes of HR management are recruitment and retention. Through HR planning, managers anticipate the future supply of and demand for employees and the nature of workforce issues, including the retention of employees. These factors are used when recruiting applicants for job openings. Being able to recruit and retain the “best” employees have been difficult tasks for HR managers. The “best” employees are not necessarily the most qualified individuals (e.g., the most educated or with the most work experience), rather it is the individuals who provide value to an organization, who complement the organization, who understand and embrace the organization’s mission, and who fit the culture of the organization. This quandary is a result of a number of different variables such as: job satisfaction, organizational commitment, job performance, and motivation. The following figure illustrates the two outcomes of HR management.

Two Main Outcomes of HR

Furthermore, contemporary HR managers also are tasked with assisting with peak performance initiatives because of escalated global demands and competition.

  • Discuss strategies for retaining employees.

Potential research areas that have valid academic journal articles.  No topics concerning the military will be allowed due to the lack of literature written about topics in the military.  YOU MUST DEAL WITH TYPES OF PEOPLE..NOT CRIMES OR OTHER CONCEPTS THAT ARE HARD TO MEASURE.  I would use these five of these variables..gender, race, age, marital status, educational level, income level..if you want other variables, we can talk about it, but these are the easiest for beginning students..beside you have to use gender as one of the five.

summarize the source and explain how it was useful to you in your argument.

Assignment: You are to make an argument about any of the assigned texts (story, poem, or drama) on the syllabus. Your argument must try to say something important about the text. In other words, it must attempt some understanding of why it is important enough for a place in a college Literature textbook. Thus, you should keep in mind that, whatever text you choose, it did not just have some bearing on the social sphere in which it was written but continues to be relevant to contemporary audiences. You should analyze the text to explore the reasons for its continued relevance.

Research: You must include at least four academic sources to help you argue your point. Though some of these sources should support your claim, you may indicate the flaws of other arguments in order to suggest the significance of your own. Furthermore, you must include an annotated bibliography at the end of your paper that cites each source and includes at least four non-simple sentences, each of which should summarize the source and explain how it was useful to you in your argument. This annotated bibliography is not included in the 31/2 to 4 required pages of the argument. To find academic sources you must use either the library or the online databases JSTOR or Omnifile Fulltext. Do not simply google or wikipedia anything.

Turning in the Assignment:  As always, your paper will immediately lose five points if it is not stapled or paper-clipped. Also, any use of first or second person will reduce your grade by one point per infraction. Avoid “to be” verbs and vague language. Remember to keep in mind various rejoinders to your argument and preemptively thwart them. You must use MLA to format your citations. Your paper must be double spaced, include Times New Roman, 12 pt. font and one-inch margins). Remember to include a name block at the top left corner of your paper with your name, my name, the class, and the date. Also, be sure to include the name of the text as your title. No title page is required.

  • Create a presence so that the firm’s message and sponsorship will be remembered.
  • Provide a souvenir so that people will remember your event and company.

Part 1 of the Individual Project should be 3 pages in length.

Part 2: Notifying Connectors

  • Write a 1-page recap of the event with quotes of attendees.

Part 2 of the Individual Project should be 2 pages in length.

Discuss the sustainability of that competitive advantage.

THIS PAPER IS DUE TONIGHT 11:00PM EASTERN TIME. I NEED IT BY 10:30PM.

This is a portion of a group report and it’s on “K-MART”. ANSWER ONLY QUESTIONS 4 & 5. 3-4 pages. APA format. At least 2 sources properly cited throughout paper.

The instructions for the entire paper are below but the order is only for # 4 & 5. I will provide the other portion for you to reference.

4.What happened to cause their competitive advantage to be lost?  Be specific.

5.What happened to the firm as a result of having lost this competitive advantage?  Where are they now?

Instructions:

In this class we explore the concept of competitive advantage extensively.  For this assignment, each team will select a company that has lost its competitive advantage.  This may be a company that is still in operation (struggling or successful) or may be a firm from that past that was once successful but that is no longer in operation.

Use your strategic analysis skills to document what their competitive advantage was, how/why it was lost, and what the firm could do/could have done to prevent this or redevelop a new competitive advantage.  Each team will collaboratively write a report that will include the following:

1.High-level description of the company (or the specific business unit/division of the company you are focusing on, if applicable).  This is more important if you pick an obscure company than if you pick a well-known company.
2.What was the firm’s one-time competitive advantage?  Be very explicit about this and use specific information from our textbook and other sources to explain in detail why the capability you identify qualifies as having been a true competitive advantage.
3.Discuss the sustainability of that competitive advantage.  How long was it sustained?  How did the firm manage to sustain that advantage?
4.What happened to cause their competitive advantage to be lost?  Be specific.
5.What happened to the firm as a result of having lost this competitive advantage?  Where are they now?

Rubric:

Quality and depth of strategic analysis – 40%

Application of course concepts – 40%

Organization, clarity of document, and writing (grammar, APA, etc.) – 20%

Discuss the effects of each of the compensation packages on company profits and the behavior of the manager.

Economics homework – Essay questions
Explain why excise taxes are more effective at raising tax revenues when applied to products with price inelastic demand versus ones with price elastic demand. Under what conditions would it be possible for tax revenues to decline with higher excise taxes?
You operate a small but popular and profitable restaurant/bar in a college town. There are several other restaurants and bars nearby. You have conducted a market research study and discovered that the price elasticity of demand for local residents is lower (less elastic) than the price elasticity of demand for college students, who are usually in town only while the college is in session about 9 months out of the year. Discuss at least two pricing strategies you can use to increase your revenues and analyze them in terms of their ability to generate additional profits. Indicate any additional assumptions you are making.
Assume the operations manager at the company you own prefers to put in low effort rather than high effort. In order the manager to exert high effort, his expected financial gain must be at least $60,000 higher than if he puts in low effort. You are evaluating three possible compensation packages:
A flat salary of $300,000
A payment equal to 5% of the expected profits from the profit center
A flat payment of $200,000 plus 5% of any profits over $10 million.

a. Discuss the effects of each of the compensation packages on company profits and the behavior of the manager. What assumptions are needed in order to compare the expected values and risks associated with each option?
b. How would a risk averse versus a risk neutral manager view the different compensation packages?

Explain how natural monopolies cause market failure? How is the deadweight loss associated with this form of market failure measured? What is a typical form of government intervention to correct it? How effective is this type of intervention? Use the material from this course to support your answer.
